Jude Law and Natalie Portman were definitely better in this movie than they were in Closer. Portman was actually up for Nicole Kidman's role but she was too young. But her audition was so amazing that they kept her on to play this lonely widow. And she slays it here as well.
There were instances in which towns lost all, as in 100 percent, of men 35 and under. Just widows and orphans and old guys left. The civil war killed 2 to 3 percent of all Americans alive at the time. Soldiers were 620,000, and its even harder to calculate civilians and aftershock effects causing death for years
Now its believed over 720,000. The tragedy is that most regiments are usually from the same town. So naturally if one of them ran away, everyone at home would know. So if a unit is in a very tight spot, a town might have lost all the young men and boys in one fight. One story that always makes me cry is the afternath of Picketts Charge at Gettysburg. The Confederate Soldiers that made it through the entire charge and was falling back were retreating backwards facing the Union lines. This was so if they were going to get shot, they would rather be shot in the front rather than the back. Civil wars are so sad.
620,000 is roughly the number of soldiers that died. That is a roughly known number thanks to record keeping. Of course hundreds of thousands of civilians died. Don’t confuse two different numbers counting two different things
Oh God!! How i miss that old days when Hollywood made great movies. It seems to be so long long time, to much shit has gone in this years, and now, nobody knows how the fuck whrite a simple basicall guion of any piece of cheap movie. Cold Mountain is one of the greatest movies. I love it.
She is also afraid of being taken advantage of. She asked if he could ‘go no further’ than just sharing the bed with her. Her need (loss of a husband and the psychological turmoil it created) was greater than the risk of letting a stranger, a man, share her bed. I’m not certain, but was the soldier attempted rape scene before this, or after? Point is, having been widowed with a baby, she is all alone and extremely vulnerable.

Yeah♥️
One of the best hollywood movies of the past 2 decades.
What we all miss in these times real human contact with no expectations😥❤️🙏
Exactly
Horse dukey
Even a dirty gruffy unshaven Jude Law is still attractive.
It’s his eyes and dark hair.
This movie really stayed with me in a way many don’t. It had so much heart.

620,000 is an old, innacurate figure. Currently believed accurately there were between 720,000 and over a million who died total in the war.

@@rickm6076 I know. But more died, far, far more. This figure doesn't include missing, but only the definitely dead...
Read the Bible it's all there
Its nice to see these two reunite in;
CLOSER.
COLD MOUNTAIN.
VOX LUX.
This Song ❤️
Far over the misty mountains cold,
2 dungeons deep and cavern old...
The book was fantastic.
There are no small parts, only small actors. These two are big
Danm I like this movie 🎥
Me too
read the book.. it's even better
The movie is kind of romantic.
Indeed, nevermind it's literally about a couple in the Civil War

Kidman could actually smile in those day. And people made fun of Michael Jackson.
Jack White ❤
Why she crying? I can’t understand a damn word he says 😂
Because she is lonely
