    I just pulled the trigger and bought the F900XR, largely based on your channel and content! Here in Hong Kong we cannot test ride before we purchase, so this is why “largely based on your review”. I’ve been a subscriber and think you do a great and honest review. Keep up the good work!

    Great review. 10 days with my f900xr so far, but with total lockdown Fridays to Sundays,, little chance to ride.
    I am very disappointed with my BMW side cases due to their poor capacity, too much wasted space. Can't even fit a helmet in right case and only at a squeeze in left. My biggest mistake with configuring my new toy. Self fitted a Givi Trekker 52 topcase onto the BMW rack at the back and great. Now looking for a USB solution... Your way looks to work fine and the routing is clean and safe. Was thinking of mounting my Garmin above instruments but maybe not needed. Don't really like looking down for GPS on handlebar mounted phone. Will re-upholster seat with comfort gel for about 80 euros in local shop (bmw actually advised me against theirs). Going for the taller Givi screen too, already ordered.
    Keep the info coming, fantastic work!

    Hi love your content, is the comfort seat a big improvement on the standard seat?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thank you Selina,
      For me it's worth it because it raises the seat height 20mm and gives me more leg room and is a little wider so more of my rear is on the seat to relieve pressure, which I need for long trips. And yes it is softer than the stock seat, I do feel it could be a little more...for example the 1250GSA seat is even softer than the comfort seat. I was just out yesterday with "Uli the GS guy" that I ride with a lot and we had the bikes right next to each other and compared seats and his stock seat was a little softer than my "comfort" seat...hmm...I was not a happy camper about this. But for now I'm satisfied with it.
      Ride safe,
      Scott

      My BMW dealer told me to forget the BMW comfort seat because it's not that comfortable either 😂, as well as hurting your bank account. He recommended finding a local shop to reupholster it. My local bike shop has quoted me 80 euros.

    Great setup Scott. The BMW is still looking sharp & now you have a home away from home! No more just socks & jockeys. Could you show us if your helmet fits in either side case or top case please? That can be helpful. Otherwise, stay safe & hopefully winter time passes quickly. Still, would love to see more of Germany in winter time 💯🙏🇦🇺

      Yes, helmets fit in both the top and side cases no problems what-so-ever. Winter riding can be tricky sometimes but I plan to do some when it's dry, don't like cold and wet at the same time, it's a bad combination. 😒

    Hi Scott, just a tip about the Connected app. I'm not a fan of Bixby, but I was able to setup a Bixby routine that opened the Connected app whenever the phone connected to the bike's bluetooth along with starting Spotify in the same routine. All this is automatic when I turn on the bike and the phone connects. Now I need to check out that RAM mount -- haven't seen that one.
    Thanks for the info for the charger and wiring. Oh yeah, noticed the Monkey in the background also :) Much different than the one she was practicing on so I guess she did well. Be safe!

      Yea, I'm not a fan of these automated things from Silicon Valley, they claim to serve us but in reality we serve them. But as you did, when it is actually more efficient...then I consider them.
      The Monkey, yes, she loves it and the reason I have not done a review of it is because I'm trying to get her to do a review instead of me, after all it's hers and she rides it all the time...well now it's cold so not so much any more.

    On my F900R in the US, the navigator cradle was part of a package that I could not customize, so I was forced to include it even though I didn't want it. At first I planned to remove it, but I have since found a phone mount that makes use of the cradle and provides mounting and charging for my phone while using the Connected app, so I've decided to keep it. I do wish I could find a wireless version though, this one just had a short USB cable to the phone.

  • @Fee.1
    @Fee.1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually decided I don’t need wireless charging anymore but the quad mount solution is superior to everything ….I feel like that’s objective at least as far as the size of it. The wireless charging quad mount is about the size of the key fob for that bmw so I appreciate it being so small. Having said that obviously that’s no reason to go out and buy a second wireless charger for anyone who’s already got one

    I wonder if you are really happy with the original bags and topbox. They seem not so easy to handle and hold in one hand and a little fragile in the paint when you take them off back and forward to hotel etc.
    Have you this as best solution or do you also consider GIVI as an option.

    I Scott, I brought my F900XR two weeks ago. After ten happy years and more then 100.000 km with my F800GS I was time to change. What I like so much on the F900XR is the simplicity of the screen and the absence of cradles, mounts and other stuf. "Less is more" but that's just my opinion. Thanks for the videos! Interesting video again, Scott! Why do you/ we need a phone mount, the most important information as who is calling, point to point indication, music choice is available on the TFT from the BMW? How easy is it to take off the mount for the topcase (which would decrease the small rear of a F900R)?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marcel,
      I use the phone in conjunction with the BMW Connected App, then I can see where I need to turn and the display on the bike tells me where to turn, basically when used together, phone and display, it eliminates the need for a Navi. That is the main reason I made this video, to show that Navi's are no longer needed on a bike like this and it's the same on 900R too. 😁👍
      Oh, and the top case mount takes a long time to put on and take off, like about 2 hours, lots of screws and side body parts have to be loosened...etc. So it's not an easy short job, once it's on, I'm leaving it on there for good now, I won't be taking it off any time soon. But I pretty much leave the top case on my bike almost 100% of the time now, it's just convent to have. The side cases I leave off unless I really need to carry "stuff" usually on a over night trip or longer.
      Take care,
      Scott

      Nope, I've heard of that but I've never had a problem with my Samsung S7 or now my S9. I've used phone mounts for both phones for a few years now and I've never had a problem with either phone. And I ride in rain/winter all conditions and sometimes I really have to clean my phone when I get home from all the dirt mud...etc.
      Maybe it's the cheaper phones with mechanical lenses in the camera. 🤔

      Na, don't worry about the motor, if there was a problem I would not have bought mine 😁
      BMW has had this motor made at this same plant in China since 2007, when it was the F700, then it changed to the 750, 800, 850 and now 900 but in all iterations, it's still the same base motor. So by now if there were problems, BMW would have them worked out by now.

    I'm simply reasoning out loud to myself. Not really sure what benefit the wireless charger offers, but if it's to eliminate the phone's charging cable, well then that benefit is counted as null (cancelled), given that the wireless charger itself needs a power cable. Plus the need for a clunky lock mechanism to secure it.
    As I said, I'm only thinking out loud.

      It's underneath the seat right under the left thigh. So I would still have to run a usb wire from the handle bar all the way down there...so just go to the battery and keep the 12 volt port free for when I plug in an electric riding suit...that is why it's located there.

      Hi, the original BMW screen was the touring screen. It was fine till about 100kph then the buffeting was bad so put the MRA vario on it now it's great. I did a video on me changing out the windscreen:

    Hi Scott, how do you find the clutch when pulling away in first gear?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Light and normal for a 900cc bike with a slip-assist clutch. 👍

    Did you remove the amount for the BMW GPS navigator that came with the bike?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an option that I didn't get, so I never had to remove it.

    What Givi Tankbag do you have - it looks quite compact, but useful?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the GIVI ST602B TANKLOCK, it's only 4L but I don't like large tank bags. 👍

      @@NothingToProve Thank you. that was the one I was thinking you had. Just waiting for my F900XR TE to be delivered & then I'll get one.

      Yea, it's good for just small personal things, keys, wallets, phones, batteries, gopros, chargers...and a pair of gloves too. LOL! I used this bag on my KTM 1290SDR and then it took the same adapter on this bike...so I literally had to buy nothing to move the bag from one bike to the other. 👍

    May have missed it, how is the comfort seat upgrade. 😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦

      Yea, that part got cut out, well several comments got cut out to keep the video short. It is softer and a tad bit wider and 20mm higher and added some well needed leg room for me. The comfort seat is worth the upgrade, imho. 👍😁

    Hi. How long is the arm? Short or medium?

      @NothingToProve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ? not sure as to what you are asking? The RAM mount arm? If so, I think it's medium.

    Can the factory plug for the GPS be used for a USB plug adapter?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea, I suppose it could if you can find the right adapter or splice into it. Anyone have any expericence with this?

    Not sure if anyone else has suggested but I use Quad Lock to mount my phone, that also has a wireless charger, from a cable tie perspective you may want/need one or two but no more than that.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I like it but what I don't like is that I have to put a case around my phone but if you don't mind that then it's a great alternative.

    Great video as always, nice accessories, do you find the 'comfort seat' alot more comfortable? Is it worth the upgrade from the original seat?

    I have a F 900 XR on order - my very first bike ! - and I only realize today it's not equipped with a USB plug ! BMW is so petty I can't believe it ! 😡
