  • At the beginning of the story of The Lord of the Rings, Bilbo Baggins passes his Ring unto his nephew, Frodo. In Todays episode of LOTR Theory, we explore the possible ramifications for Middle-earth, if Gandalf The Grey, obtained the One Ring, and attempted to destroy it and consequently, Sauron.
I hope you enjoy this video and it fits in smoothly with how JRR Tolkien imagined the Rule of Middle-earth under The Grey Pilgrim, Gandalf. Let me know down below what you believe would have occurred if Gandalf took the Ring for himself.

I have heard other Gandalf taking the ring theories, I think this one is just as plausible. Though, while I'm sure Saruman would have come with and surely betrayed Gandalf, I don't think he would have told Sauron. At least not immediately. Doesn't matter, regardless it would have ended the same way, and your version makes for a better story. Good job, looking forward to the next one!

Lord of the Rings Theory, take it or leave it, but what about a possible theory of if Saruman had stayed good and helped the Fellowship on their journey to Mordor to destroy the ring?

Your story was true to the ideals of Tolkien. I think you got it right.

I was on the fence with this version for most of it. As many others have said, I am conflicted if Gandalf would have trusted Saruman so surely though the book certainly does support it.
At around the 24 minute mark, with the WitchKing, I cheered.
Many often miss this aspect of being the Lord of the Ring and I am glad you included it in the end.

@TheoryoftheRings This is a very well-done and very interesting theory video. It is also very scary to imagine one of The Wise, Olorin, as an actual Lord of the Rings, given how dangerous such a tragic outcome would result solely from the Maia's desire to do only good mar the rest of Arda far worse than Sauron himself.

Not a comment, or a critique. Well thought out, for myself, I found myself getting nostalgic thinking of the Bakshi days, the version of the rings power presented then. What a departure this story takes,, which was the purpose, I suppose. Thanks

Seeing this makes me thankful that the ring never fell into Pippin's hands, for it would have only created something yet more horrible and terrifying than anything ever seen in Middle-Earth in any of the ages past...THIRD BREAKFAST!

Can you do a theory video of what if smaug got the one ring?

Cool video, I'm halfway through 👍🏻 Just two remarks: Gandalf was suspicious of Saruman before and the ring may increase his paranoia, so I doubt he would reveal it to Saruman. But it seems still possible, and it's a cool scenario that Saruman would accompany them. I don't think though that Saruman can do something like dominating the mind of someone so forcefully, so Gríma would have to die quickly before being able to open his mouth! It's a really interesting video anyway 👍🏻
Edit: A small correction, the beacons are not used to call the Rohirrim but the fiefdoms of Gondor. And Sauron would not survive if someone else mastered the ring, Tolkien mentioned this in a letter.

Love the Feedback!! If the Beacons can be used the films to muster Rohan than its good enough for my theory 😂 Glad to see your first few comments on the channel! Very welcome here 😅

So Sauron would die permanently if the ring is mastered by another? Do you have more info on that?

    • @Crafty_Spirit
      @Crafty_Spirit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Mr47CRO "Permanently die" may not be the best way to put it, the results would be the same as the destruction of the ring: if someone were to master the ring insofar as to overrule Sauron's claim (the ring would still corrupt) his extremely weakened spirit could never reembody again and would likely travel to the void beyond the world.
This is why Sauron was more afraid that someone powerful would claim the ring than someone destroying it. Tolkien mentions this scenario in a letter but unfortunately I could not find the specific one! I think I've seen the quote on screen in a video, perhaps this one: th-cam.com/video/fCW0DeYmCbY/w-d-xo.html

@@Crafty_Spirit but didn't Sauron used the ring as something similar to a horcrux in Harry Potter as he can't die until it is destroyed? It is said that the ring has no other master
