There is nithing that destroys the atmosphere more than the players saying to themselves "Oh. Its a ________". The second they know a threat, the second they as players are familiar or have history with a threat, it looses much of its terror capability.
Take for instance a Beholder. Its dangerous, its gross, its alien. You can make it unexpected and get the atmosphere just right, but the second they realize what it is (assuming they have already dealt woth beholders as players) it becomes....mundane?
Now lets create an alternative without changing any stats.
"You see a lythe male with long greasy hair doubled over in pain in the middle of the empty room. As he pulls his head back, you see both his eyes have been sewn shut. Its mouth remains closed as it moans in pain as a split appears across it's forehead, bleeding and opening to expose a large rolling eye.
As the still staning form twitches and spasms, its mouth opens into a gape and from between the lips emerge several other eyes on the ends of short leathery tentacles. As it continues to twitch, its feet leave the ground and the large central eye turns to you.
    Roll for initiative."
Perhaps the characters figure out what they are dealing with, bit at least for the beginnign the will be saying "what the hell is that!?!"

Great take on all this. Awesome description & you totally got it. When this effect works it's great for the players & very satisfying for the DM.

not sure how to begin this, so I'll just say I stumbled across this video while lurking on reddit.
I'd like to offer some advice first on how I think you can improve your content, because I think you have a good speaking voice and the fact that you were standing up and moving around really helped with conveying your points. that being said, I think your videos could do with a bit more visual aid, you occasionally put up text graphics (which look really good BTW) and I think with a list video like this, big, bold text bars that introduce each new topic would really help with the overall flow and structure of the video the part early on in the video where you did "remember, no phones, good music and good lighting" and had text on screen was a really good use of this. the other piece of advice I can offer is cut out some of your casual rambling and stutters, I struggle with a bit of a speech impediment myself so don't be afraid to do another take, or cut something out that breaks up the flow. It can be hard starting out since you don't want to cut anything in case it's funny or you feel it enriches the video, but trust me, good flow will go a long way to really making your points hit much harder.
you make a lot of great points in this video despite some of the production shortcomings, I'm interested to see where you take this channel and I hope to see it grow and improve.

Hey Zerk! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback! I really appreciate it!
My friend Andrew has just started helping me with the editing (I'm not much of an editor any more) so hopefully we'll be able to integrate more of that.
I'll keep working on all this & I hope you continue to follow along. I'm definitely open to more great advice like this and want to keep improving with my videos! Thanks again. Hopefully you'll see these changes integrated in the next few videos.
