- A new presidency begins in Zambia as Hakainde Hichilema, the former opposition leader, was sworn into office on Tuesday. VOA’s Peter Clottey sat down with Hichilema before his inauguration to discuss his vision for Zambia. In part one of this interview, the president speaks about his agenda.

An old saying - 'A country gets the Government it deserves'. Darling, darling Zambia! We may have the President now that we have deserved for many years. Someone who will be the servant of the people he loves (go read your Bible...!), someone who is intelligent, lucid, exposed to the outside world (MBA Birmingham), someone who has suffered, someone who has persevered, and someone who has been highly successful in what he has done to date in life. There are so many places where he could start work in Zambia - corruption in the Ministries, charcoal burning deforestation, homelessness (you can't call living in corrugated iron kapoto 'home), the re-colonisation of Z. by heartless, God-less, racist communists who cover the country with cheap blue paint (you know who I'm talking about), plastic recycling (please get glass back), and the drift from the villages to the cities. BUT - Ba President Hakainde has SUCH a wonderful people with which to work with, in such a wonderful place, with sun, water, space. May the gross disconnect that exists between what Zambia HAS and what Zambia IS be broken forever. May Zambia be a haven for those who love Africa, love Africans, love God. May it be, under HH, a place of security, peace, prosperity (always green please, always sustainable), a light that shines in Africa, a reputation that grows globally, and the death knell to the basket case image those in the rich parts of the world have of Africa.
Sometimes even the smallest glimmer of hope is all one needs to keep pushing.
There is hope and as Africans, we rejoice with the people of Zambia and we wish them and their new president well.

We thank God the day of elections came and now is established what God gave us. My pray is God continue to guide our President to do that is of God for His people. To be in agreement with the will of God on His people. Psalm 32:8, says, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye". I pray as the word of God is faithful and God is faithful to His word that as His word has said may He instruct you daily and teach you what to do in every situation and circumstance.
