We are heartbroken to learn about the passing of David and Jan Metzig 💔😭 We are thinking of the Metzig family and all of those in the community who loved them.

Yes! You made it on a cheese tour. Love your dedication to cheese and to seeking out the smaller, more independent cheesemakers. I loved your nervousness around the squeaking...haha...made me smile. You always know you have fresh ones when you get that squeak. Fresh cheese curds are also DELICIOUS if you warm them up...even for a bit in the microwave. They are also so incredible on nachos. And yes, fried cheese curds are basically Wisconsin's state food, so I'm glad you got to try that too. You'd be surprised at how many different varieties of the fried kind there actually are. Hope you got to try a lot more with your time in the state.

The squeaking was such an experience haha, we totally didn't know what to expect! We had only ever had curds before on poutine, but nachos sounds good too! Between this experience and another in two videos, we had enough cheese for a while 😅

Oh dear... my friends know me for loving terrible cheese jokes... you brought this on yourselves!!!
      1. What do you call cheese that's not yours?
      2. Did you hear about the explosion in the cheese factory?
      3. What cheese do you use to lure a grizzly out of a tree?
      4. What did the cheese say when it saw itself in the mirror?
      5. Why didn't the cheese want to get sliced?
      6. What cheese do you use to hide a horse?
      1. Nacho Cheese
      2. All that was left was de brie
      3. Camembert
      4. Halloumi
      5. Because it had grater plans
      6. Mascarpone
      .... you asked 😉🤣

We so enjoy watching your adventures. As soon as I saw the Wisconsin cheese making adventures, I knew that I had to share it with my father-in-law. When he was 3 years old, he went to live with his uncle and aunt on a dairy farm in Iowa on the Mississippi River. When he was 16, he went to work in a cheese factory in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. He has shared stories with me about making cheese. We watched the video and when they began cutting the curds, he told me that was his job in the cheese factory. My father-in-law will be 95 years old in two weeks. A+K, thank you for putting a smile on his face and bringing back wonderful memories.

Besides the care and knowledge by those making the cheese the secret is in the soil and the grass. When the glaciers receded they left specific minerals. I am definitely biased being from WI but the cheese is definitely different than other states by far! Yum! Going up in October. Can’t wait! Thanks for video.

Thoughts!! 1st off, oh my goodness, that job looks far too labour intensive for me... major respect for that bloke at 8:38! I loved this video so much more than I expected to, it was full of so much information and truly fascinating! You guys did such a great job putting it together, blending the explanations from the staff, your voice overs and your reactions in the place. You guys should have found somewhere selling fries and gravy and made poutine with the cheese curds one of my favourite things to eat from my time living in Toronto and I miss them so much! ❤️ Fantastic video, well done!!!

Sad news for those who love Union Star Cheese. David Mitzig ( 3rd generation owner of Union Star Cheese Factory ) and his Wife Jan Mitzig, were brutally murdered in their sleep on March 17th, 2023. My family has been going to Union Star Cheese Factory for decades apon decades. And we are so shocked to hear the news of their passing. Rest in peace David and Jan. I wonder if this is the cheese factory my family visited on our trip up there when I was a little kid. The packaging for the cheese curds looks the same, and I remember a white building, but I'm sure neither of those is exclusive. I'm sure my parents would have chosen a family run place to visit too. But that was so long ago there is no way to even know...
