I own a similar model - blue, 1999 but with StainTune exhaust. With a programmable ignition it runs line a dream!

How come yours has blue callipers? Did the late models come with those? I'm looking to buy one at the moment but all the ones for sale here in Japan have older looking brakes...

The blue spot calipers are a common upgrade for the TRX. These ones were fitted after the bike was bought and should bolt straight on without any alteration. Yamaha FZS fazer 600, Thundercat 600 or R6 up to 2003 can be used. I thought TRX's in Japan were fitted with Brembo fron calipers though.

@@classicbikeworld I better check. Hopefully my CBR sells online tomorrow, then it's TRX shopping time

These blue calipers come from the first R1 (1998) and are fitted on many Yamaha models that came out in the early 2000s, including the TDM 900, which shares to some extent (so-to-speak) the same DNA with the TRX....and as Pete Scott writes in one of the comments above, they are a nice upgrade to the stock model :-)

Do you have a video of it and it actually revving? As you said this video is good for not much else but idle sounds.

I went to look at one of these once, could see rust on many different surfaces so I left it well alone. Yamahas of that era have flimsy finish.

Not true. I have a 1999 model and I'm not fastidious regarding keeping it clean and it has virtually no rust at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 🏍

SV 650 sounds much better ..

It would be interesting to have a side by side comparison. The full sound of the TRX doesn't come over as good on the microphone

SV650 is a V-Twin vs. the parallel twin in the TRX. Different sounds.

TheReapersSon the trx has a 270° firing pattern which is the same as a 90° v2. I don’t know much about the SV 650 though.
