    Thanks for watching. And thanks to Thrillist for including MLBK! For the haters: I am from brooklyn. Born and raised. That's my voice. It's an honor to serve food in my hometown. Guess I'm young at heart if I sound 13? I'm 45. If I sound tired it's because I work 18 hour days and it was a long week. If I was a male chef I don't think I'd be seeing comments about my weight, appearance or voice. Our food is what's important and I appreciate the recognition.

    I own Isa’s cookbook ‘Isa Does IT’ and her recipes are delicious! She shows us that vegan food can be delicious and satisfying and not so difficult to make. I own several vegan cookbooks and her’s is hands down my favorite. I take it too work to plan my menus for the week. Yes, it’s THAT GOOD. I also own Miyokos Artisan Vegan Cheese cookbook (as she was mentioned in this video) and the almond ricotta cheese an easy recipe that can be used in a lasagna that rivals any conventional lasagna. I wish Isa would open a restaurant in the Bay Area because I’d be a regular there.

    To all the people who say they don't eat like vegan food -- Have you never eaten an apple or a banana? How about a PB and J sandwich? All vegan food means is it's made from plants. If you can eat a banana, you can eat 'vegan' food. If you don't eat animal products, you may identify as a vegan, as a person or lifestyle. You don't have to live a vegan lifestyle to eat fruits and veggies or any dish, main or side, that excludes meat. I'm not vegan, but I love plant based meals. For the record, I own all of Isa's cookbooks. I also own Bobby Flays cookbooks.

    Normally I do not make comments to things on the internet today I feel the need to react . I have spent the last 32 years in the supermarket business. When I started you did not see organic or natural food sections about ten years ago we started to have three foot sections in the stores and today we have whole aisle. When I see people who shop only in those sections I always talk to them about Isa's web site or about her books . The reactions I get from these customers are always positive if they know of her they love her ! The ones that did not know usually check her out and then tell me how great she is. I did not need for these people to tell me how great she is because I have had the pleasure to know her since she was born. I am therefore addressing the people who felt that they had to make comments about the way Isa talks. First of all this video is about the food not her voice. If you don't like the food fine. Just say it ,otherwise , keep your rude comments to yourself after all we do not know how you sound. Unless you want to do your own video to show us how well you speak I once again say keep it to yourself Isa even though I have not seen you for many years I want you to know how proud Of you I am all you have accomplished!!!! (Like I said I do not do this very often so if I made any grammar errors or typos I apologize for it.if anyone has the urge to make any comments go ahead because I really do not care what rude people have to say about me just do not mess with my family

    Isa is amazing and such a hard worker. The people making stupid comments on here have no idea how hard she works. She has changed peoples lives through food, published several books, opened two restaurants and more. So those of you complaining...like, what are you even doing with your life besides getting on youtube and trolling a wonderful human being. Grow the fuck up. I highly doubt if she was a male chef that comments about her voice, weight, or appearance would be made. I'm happy to see such a strong woman thrive in this industry. Keep up the good work Isa and the crews at Modern Love

    It's funny, so many of the comments are talking about how obnoxious her accent is, and to me, since I grew up in the bay area, it didn't register as out of the ordinary at all. Not everyone has that exact accent in california, of course, but on the other hand, I also know incredibly intelligent and thoughtful people even as old as in their mid 50s with that accent. There's actually nothing inherently immature or unintelligent about it, just because it isn't newscaster speak.
    Like... it's just a dialect, guys. You'll survive, I promise.

    If you don’t like seasonings or plants then of course going vegan will be hard, because you rely on fat and salt to satisfy. Having bland taste can encourage over eating because you don’t savor the food or notice nuance in the flavors of vegetables.
    Americans are used to bland, salty, fatty food; no wonder obesity is so common here.
    As a vegan I eat mostly foreign foods and ingredients. With little to no modifications I eat delicious meals. Pad Thai with no fish sauce sub tofu for egg, Indian curries with beans as protein and coconut cream instead of cow milk, miso soup with a kombu broth instead of fish stock, Kung Pao with tofu instead of meat, ect. ect

    I’m not Vegan. I tried being Vegetarian in the late ‘80s to early ‘90s, until I realized that the cause meant nothing to me on a visceral level. Still, I’ve been considering checking this joint out, since it’s nominally in my neighborhood, and I’ve read that the food is delicious.. Now, seeing this footage, I’m certainly going, at least once.

  • @rooktopwn
    @rooktopwn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really don't have so much a problem with the taste of vegan food, it's the cost that always gets me. Like sure, vegan cheese probably tastes great now but it also probably costs twice as much as store brand cheese, or if it's the same cost it tastes awful. Like I've tried vegan ice cream, it's more ice than cream, thus it's gross, and again cost more than a tub of the store brand stuff. Once I can get vegan food that fills all my requirements (fast and simple to make, tastes good, has enough protein and iron for my anemia, and I can get a two weeks worth for under $50-$70, oh and it can't spoil for those two weeks at least) then I might consider it.

    • @Allison-qy9yz
      @Allison-qy9yz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The expensive products you're bringing up (vegan cheese, ice cream) are not essential for your "requirements" anyways. Vegan diets really aren't all that expensive when you stay away from the highly processed foods. The thing is though is that you do have the discipline to cook your own food / adapt to new recipes, and no vegan can help you too much if you're not willing to do that.

    • @rooktopwn
      @rooktopwn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Allison I only brought up those products as 1) something that came up in the video that the owner of this resturant seemed really proud of (the cheese) and 2) something that I've actually tried before (ice cream). Of course those two aren't staples of any diet, they were again just relatable examples. I probably should have focused on nutritional equivalence instead of taste, but I didn't think I owed a big giant explanation. But I will just for the sake of understanding. As I stated previously I have anemia, more specifically Crohn's (a genetic disease), which means it's doubly hard for me to absorb nutrients from food. I take two iron pills every day to promote red cell growth which helps, but I also have to be careful of what I eat. I need a lot of protein and iron (a little less than double) to fight off chronic fatigue but I can't have most beans, califlower, broccoli, onions, garlic, brussel sprouts, etc (most of which feature big in veggie recipes or would be good sources for iron and protein) unless I want to spend the rest of the night in agony or chugging pepto. So my options are limited. You wanna know what has become my staple diet: veggie pasta, baked chicken breast, and soft boiled eggs. I have never gotten sick with these, it's not expensive or time consuming to make, and they keep me awake enough to live my life. I know I could try harder to find veggie recipes that could possibly work for me, but I have neither the time nor the money to spend on unknowns.

    • @Allison-qy9yz
      @Allison-qy9yz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm glad that you have meals that work for you and make you feel your best. It's a shame you aren't interested in exploring new options. I bet there's plant-based options out there for you when you're ready

    • @StevieLynnWeisend
      @StevieLynnWeisend 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I spend a lot less money on vegan food. Maybe 100 dollars a week for two people, all meals. I don’t buy the processed stuff- except tofu, tempeh, and milk. The tofu and tempeh are cheaper than their meat counterparts.

      I'm not a vegan, but I feel like a large portion of America doesn't understand how to cook veggies. For most people all they've had are steamed and boiled veggies. Roast them in the oven, throw them on the grill! Grilled green onions are like little candies, and roasted bell peppers are sweet treats. My philosophy is eat a little less meat, and try to eat a little more greens.

    • @donnywilliams4376

      you don't need to try Vegan/vegetarian food to eat more veggies... Just eat more veggies.. That's how your diet should be (examine other cultures and you would see that it is a balanced between vegetable based dishes and meat based dishes..)
