  • My thoughts on Colorado's decline from one of the best States in the West to a place people are now beginning to avoid. I love Colorado but it definitely is showing it's warts these days. Very glad I ended up in a different part of the country to set up my homestead.

I was considering Colorado very strongly for a few years. I'll be straight to the point as to why i won't ever live in Colorado. When they attempt to remove a peoples chioce president from the ballet I will never step foot into the state again. When the government of colorado begins to do tyranical things you can rest assured your not safe there anymore

I lived in Colorado Springs from 2001-2006 and it was awesome. Went back years later and wow, what a difference. Run down, hot boxes with people just smoking weed and basically no longer a place I would consider moving back too.

I loved going to visit my friends in Manitou Springs back in the late 90s. There wasn't a whole lot of people around, really great laidback vibe. I rolled through there last year and was floored at how much things have changed. Glad to have my place in Northern AZ, I love it out here.

I live near Breckenridge. We now call Summit County Denver West. The traffic is awful, crime is increasing (although lots of it is covered up for the tourists) and they are building city style condos like crazy. I’ve been here for 33 years and am wondering where to move next.

    • @OffGridBackcountryAdventures

I remember when I first moved to Colorado and we'd go up to Summit County in the summertime to get great deals on hotels since no one visited in the summer months. They were "ski towns" back then and half the businesses shutdown in the summer months. I'm sure you remember those times since you've been there for 33 years. Crazy how much things have changed out there.

I grew up in Colorado Springs and my dad and brothers still live there. Every year I think about moving home but the price of housing, the overall vibe of the city and how crowded it all seems is a huge deterrent. My dad and brothers, maybe because they've been there the whole time, don't seem to think its so bad. After living in the middle of nowhere in Maine for 20 years its hard to imagine moving back to any city I guess but I sure do miss the mountains.

Most definitely, I noticed he over stated a few spots in the RINO District which always had a few homeless people around. My cousin lives in the Highlands and has been telling me about the growing number of tents so I'm trying to keep an accurate pulse on things. I used to live in the Park Place Lofts Bldg in Riverfront Park...just learned that park is a big homeless encampment now. Same with Sloan's Lake where I used to take Sierra to run miles before we hit the road. It's sad to see, Downtown Denver was a gem and I truly loved living there.

I have seen pictures of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a few places in California, and a TH-cam man showed pictures of Vancouver Canada, on his channel which was just as terrifying as here in the USA. There were thousands of people on drugs walking around like zombies on drugs and going to the bathroom everywhere, and graffiti on all the store's windows and walls. It is so scary that nobody is doing anything about these situations. I fear for the future of America. If anybody thinks the people in Washington DC care, you are sadly mistaken. Now, knowing we can add Denver to the list is beyond sad.

Hi JK, I apologize if the video wasn't clear...I was actually referring to the well in town. There was a coin operated well in Seligman where folks could go and get water. My Guy & I moved the heck out of Colorado in 2020 at the start of the "covid" thing. We're happy that we did. Too much too much of it all. TOO expensive to live & they have taken the politics to a totally new level. Weed did contribute to the problem but it was also people from other states like Cali, NY, WA etc etc... When this wave of people came with their money and their politics it changed everything. It was a beautiful place to be. Everywhere that we used to go to get away and enjoy the great outdoors were just crowded with people. We were living right on the front range not far from Boulder and Longmont. We know exactly what you're talking about.. Yes we have nightmare stories about HOA and (trying to buy property) We literally went from house to house where there were those willing to go 30k over asking price. No; they can have it. Much happier in our little place in the middle of no where USA. We also escaped most of the brutality of the lock downs. Just the first part of the insanity was enough. Lots of working homeless in CO. It's like a disease; they have ruined the Colorado Rocky Mountain High for us. best to you. thanks

I came out over 2 years ago after i sold my house in vermont to cruise around in my van to hopefully find a place to land. Its definitely not going to be Colorado, its even hard to find places to camp thats not crowded. Ive been to oregon and i like it there way better. I havent been to arizona yet. From what ive seen the area up where you live has reasonably priced real estate. Hopefully i can get down there and check things out when i get squared away here. @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey Tom, hope you are enjoying time with your son! Yeah, it's just too populated in Colorado...however my perspective is one from 25 years ago. I moved to Colorado in 1998 and I could cruise from my office in the Tech Center at 5pm to my apartment downtown at 17th and Grant - it would only take me 15 minutes. Today that same drive takes well over an hour. I noticed the writing on the wall years ago and that's why I started living in my truck. The goal was to find another place to settle down. I never thought I'd end up in AZ but the cost of land, the solitude, and the "Live and Let Live" mindset is what pulled me in. I love it out here, Northern AZ has a lot to offer! I wish you the best of luck in finding your slice of heaven. ~ Brian

yeah, it's nice to see my son, but I just don't feel good around here with the business, and the majority of people don't even say "hi" when you pass by. Im near the highlands off of 29th. A bit overwhelming Coming from a rural area in Vermont, a house on 10 acres in the green mts population under 1000, but the house was way too big for me. Anyway, here I am now trying to figure out my next move...maybe check some places in Arizona...
I was hoping to find another van while I was here, but they sell quick. Maybe I'll luck out soon, otherwise I'll take off in my minivan again.

The biggest issue with Denver (much like most large cities today) is the lack of mental health beds in the United States, culminating from cuts made in the late 70s/s early 80s. We have 500,000 less beds today in the United States than we did then and when you look at the total number of homeless in the US, it's approximately 500,000 now.

Interesting episode. I ebike 30 miles in Colorado Springs from Palmer Park to Manitou Springs and back and all along the beautiful bike trail are homeless tents under overpasses and along Fountain creek. Rode through a huge homeless gathering right on the bike trail today and got up close to a huge confrontation between two homeless…luckily I was able to squeeze by. Police and Neighborhood service run them off and they just keep coming back - I’m thinking they are migrating down from Denver. The Mayor recently stated quite clearly that we are NOT a sanctuary city and is fighting hard to keep it that way. East Colorado Springs is unrecognizable with all the housing and commercial development. Great channel, btw!

Something really changed in the last 4 or 5 years, it literally feels like double the people are out there theses days, city rigs decked to the teeth speeding to and from in a whirlwind of garbage, cigarette butts, broken bottles and soiled toilet paper. My secret for finding good fishing spots these days is to hit up Indian Reservations where they allow recreation. Contrary those who are native or have been here 20+ years, those moving in think it's heaven ... but congestion and sky rocketing home prices have really pout a strain on the valley. We call certain developments "little California". Homelessness isn't so much of an issue, but progressive policy does play a role regardless what people want to believe. Boise is a bit more left leaning and thus contain most of the homeless .... Meridian and other surround communities are still more conservative, don't offer the services and essentially have zero homeless. The family farms are selling off and the developers are having a true hay day .... but at what cost?
