I’ve said this before but in terms of lofts, the perfect combo is this: ZX4 5 iron (23 degrees), ZX5 6, 7 irons (27, 31 degrees), ZX7 8, 9, PW (36, 41, 46 degrees). That’s four degree gaps, followed by five degree gaps, and it leaves room for a high-lofted hybrid and high-lofted fairway wood. Too many average golfers with moderate swing speeds allow their lofts to crash together - this set-up, which I played myself last year, gaps really well and doesn’t require any lofts to be altered.
I got the ZX4 MKII's a couple weeks ago, they are everything I was hoping for and more. Moved on from 2019 T100 with S300's to the ZX4 with S400's. Absolute Bangers.
I went to be fit, I was given all the "game improvement" irons and nothing clicked. Then my fitter handed me the Srixon ZX5, they were amazing, great feel, fairly easy to fit and I bought a set. They are excellent, well made, for what it's worth, I would recommend people should try them.
Hi Andy, I got fitted for the ZX4 MKll irons and I have to agree with you they are an excellent iron. The problem I had with them was for me the low peak height and lack of spin, however I wanted to stay with Srixon simply because they really are quality clubs. So I had a fitting for the ZX5 MKll irons, how here’s the kicker, I found them to actually be more forgiving than the ZX4’s. I had a lovely high flight with adequate spin.
Just tradded my Ping G410 irons for Srixon ZX5 MKll used irons today. Best nine holes ever. Last year I broke 100. This year, my 78th, I will break 90. My irons have Accra graphite shafts and they feel and sound great.
Again, you've hit the nail on the head. I started with Hogan Edge from day one... why, becuase my logical mind looked at them and said, they look efficient and clean... but I should have have bought them... but I'm glad I did! I learned on forged irons... I went on to chase the score, trying to buy my score, with Titleist AP3... too round, and I cut every shot... Mizuno forged irons... NO!.... Titleist AP2.. maybe, but with rifle shafts at a 20 index!... you got it! I was an idiot chasing pro clubs.... then Taylormade P790... marketed with strong lofts for extra distance but a guy like me with slow swing speed now looks at low short distance shots! NO!.... but then... the SX-05 with KBS Tour 90 regular stepped shafts.... OMG... every shot on the range was like an oversized tennis racquet, springing off the face. I could not believe my joy! I found the perfect iron. I highly recommend these irons for 15 to 20 index guys who are looking for sweet spot irons. You will not be disappointed. All other forged irons were like hitting a rock with a 2x4. These are pure joy!
I was fit into the 1st gen ZX7s and can say the 'big' names were not better, for, my swing. If Srixon spent the money TM, Titleist and Callaway did on advertising so many more people would play them. They are an amazing feeling club and excellent price point. So underrated and under appreciated I think.
I have Srixon ZX4 irons PW-7 iron in the bag. From there I go with 26 and 23 degree Mizuno 923 hybrids, then 21 and 17 degree Callaway UW’s. Best set-up I’ve ever had!!
I got fit 3 weeks ago and are putting these in the bag, played the zx5 2021 for 2 years, this year I gave all the big brands a shot, Mizuno, titliest, taylormade callaway , and these were just the best fir me. The feel, distance and looks are amazing, best kept secret. Thinking about trying the driver and woods this year
Srixon & Wilson have been producing some of the best performing and best value forged irons for the last couple of releases. Everyone should try them alongside the usual suspects, they’ll more than hold their own
I second that! Wilson forged players irons are bigger and more forgiving than the beginners cavity backs from the 80s and 90s that many learn to play with. Feel amazing.
I play the Srixon Z785 irons. I bought them in 2019. I was convinced of buying the Mizuno MP 20 MMC and right at the end, the fitter handed me the Srixon. I can honestly say, I did not know about them and had my heart set on the Mizunos. Walked out of the fitting with the Srixons. Great irons! If they are not on your radar, just go try them.
Tops for diggers, forged cavity feel and forgiveness. Will also work great for sweepers because it's a sneaky wide sole. Just a brilliant design by Srixon.
I've had the old zx5 for a few months now and love them. Do the new ones still have the pop sound when hit out of the middle, I love that in mine it's just a audio tick that you have nailed it. Only issue I would say is second hand value, I picked up my virtually unused set 4-pw for £300. Great if buying but not so great if selling. Will not be changing them unless the new ones are any better in my hands. A must to try. Great stuff Andy as always.
Couldn't agree more on buying/selling - I picked up a barely used set of the beautiful z965 forged irons for £200! Just to try them. Got z765 5-pw for £160 to blend a combo set. If I sell the blades online and aren't in a hurry I'll offset that outlay quite a bit. But seems they lose so much value from brand new. People get swayed by bigger names
It would be hard to argue with those numbers. I have the old model ZX4, and I think they look good for a forgiving hollow body iron. These take the look to a new level. If I were to buy a new set, I would blend the ZX5 with the ZX4.
Absolutely loved these last year as well. However I chose Apex 21. I just could not ignore the numbers for me during the fitting. I have to say that the Srixon irons are the best looking irons in the market.
I liked the ZX5s last year, hit the ZX5 MKii this year, ordered them with my preferred shaft and they went in the bag. Great look, great feel, I will have my first outside round on Friday and Saturday this week, then I will know if I really made the correct choice.
Great review here. Let me cut to chase. They are beautiful irons. Their new launch of these clubs is stunning. They feel great. Perform great. My only delay, I too was on fence w these irons last year. I went PXG Gen 5 which I absolutely love. PXG is about 2-3 weeks away of launching Gen 6 irons. I’m holding off to compare my current Gen 5 to Gen 6 and then compare against these new Srixons. I just have to. 👍🏻
Andy…1st I wasn’t really looking for new irons this year as I’ve been gaming the latest version of P790’s and am happy with them. My only possible purchase for this year was going to be the result of a thorough driver fitting. That being said I would only consider 1 other brand of Irons - Srixon. Being maybe a less than a “Average” golfer I love the sole design of the Srixon’s. I like what they have done with ZX 4’s this year and I have always liked the 5’s. I wasn’t planning on demoing anything but now after your info here with some comparisons to the 790’s I’m going to give them a try. As always thanks for the great content.
Don’t have to look to hard here in Australia to get a set of these from PW - 5 iron for around the $1200. AUD mark (for ZX7, ZX5 or the ZX4) - best value premium irons in the game. To top it all off the new ZX5 MKII driver can be bought pretty much everywhere for $630 AUD. As you stated Andy it’s only brand snobbery that is keeping this brand out of peoples bags
Awesome review! I’m considering making the switch from my PXG 0211 xcor 2 irons. Would you say the ZX4s or ZX5s are closer to resembling the PXGs? I don’t wanna deviate too much but I can use a little more help without losing too much “feel”. Thanks!
How do they stack up to your pxg’s? I got fitted to the gen 5’s just havnt bought them yet. But dang i love the looks of these and the taylormade p series
Hi Andy, I'm looking at changing my old Srixon z765 (which bought after your review). Need a little more help now I'm older. These are on the list. The zx7 is the other on the list. Are you reviewing the hybrids?
These look class. I'd really like to invest in some new clubs, but with the current cost of clubs, I'd have to remortgage my house and as I only moved house in September, I don't want to pay an early redemption charge! 🤣🤣🤣
I’m also interested in the mkii irons. Thought of blending the ZX4 5 - 7 irons and ZX5 8 - GW. I assume you would have to adjust some lofts for gapping. Had you done this? Thx, Ric
I was fitted 2.5 weeks ago, ended up with mk ii zx5 4-6 and mk ii zx7 7-pw. Nothing was even close (atleast for me). I had the zx5 irons all bent 1 degree weak to help with that bit of gapping. They should arrive next week and I couldn't be more excited
Srixon irons are sooo under rated I used srixon 745 these irons were one of the best feeling irons I used. The V-sole is great for hard and soft ground, the bounce allows easy turf interaction. Great workability, very soft feeling and at the time kinda forgiving. Used my buddy's ZX5 irons and made me regret getting rid of Srixon. The forgiveness of the ZX5 were great, but I m thinking at looking at the ZX7 Mkii irons they look great Great video
It was down to those two irons for me. Very close call. Both easy to hit. Srixon won out. Higher ball flight and better spin numbers equated to better stopping power on the greens. That was the difference and I went with it.
I'm not a srixon fan boy by any means , but you are doing the zx-5 a big disservice by mentioning the p790 in the same breath. The p790 is a nice looking iron but feels very clicky and very inconsistent distance control.
I'm a 50 yr old with a 6hc. I just bought zx4 m2 4-G. And I was coming from i200. Zx4 huge improvement over last gen. To me zx4 is little longer from head to toe.
Well, um, twas not that long ago that you were reeaally big on Takomo irons. So now it's Srixon, and in the end you were noncommittal about putting them in your bag. Both brands are good clubs for sure, but whatareya gonna play?????
The Srixon ZX4 and ZX7 look great. Its a shame the ZX5 look horrid with the 'glued on' plastic add on. If the ZX5 looked as good as the ZX7 I would order them today.
I’ve said this before but in terms of lofts, the perfect combo is this: ZX4 5 iron (23 degrees), ZX5 6, 7 irons (27, 31 degrees), ZX7 8, 9, PW (36, 41, 46 degrees). Hey Eric. Sounds like a great set. What’s your handicap.

I think that’s a great summary
I have Srixon ZX4 irons PW-7 iron in the bag. From there I go with 26 and 23 degree Mizuno 923 hybrids, then 21 and 17 degree Callaway UW’s. Best set-up I’ve ever had!!
Nice set up
Do you play the apex uw? If so, how do you like it? I've been thinking about a 17 degree to replace my stealth 3w.

The wilson staff cb is so good
I work at a golf store in Nebraska and srixon was one of our top selling irons last year, and going strong this year as well
I play the Srixon Z785 irons.
I’ve gone with a mixed set. 4s in the long irons (5-7) and 5s in the low end of the bag (8-pw) and Cleveland RTX in the wedges.
I’ve been fit for a set. ZX5 5-7 iron. And ZX7 8-PW. They’re stunning.
I've had the old zx5 for a few months now and love them.
Do the new ones still have the pop sound when hit out of the middle, I love that in mine it's just a audio tick that you have nailed it.

There is no reason to change James, very similar in my opinion.

I went with a 4 and 5 hybrid and then finished my bag off with 6-PW in ZX5's. So far, it works well for us mere mortals. 👍
It would be hard to argue with those numbers. I have the old model ZX4, and I think they look good for a forgiving hollow body iron. These take the look to a new level. If I were to buy a new set, I would blend the ZX5 with the ZX4.
ZX4 review later this week 👍
Sorry I know it’s sometime ago but did you make the move and if so was it the right decision, thanks
@@peterheston4048 I stayed with the older model ZX4. No more money into equipment for me.
@@tomb9658 ok thanks, I know what you mean but it’s one last purchase, hopefully
Absolutely loved these last year as well. However I chose Apex 21. I just could not ignore the numbers for me during the fitting. I have to say that the Srixon irons are the best looking irons in the market.
Went from Mizuno hot metal to the srixon zx5 mk2 and they feel absolutely amazing! Pure butter
I absolutely love my ZX5's. Go to a 5 iron and then I"m into hybrid.
Makes sense
The Srixon 3 wood is slowly turning into my favorite club in the bag. Looking forward to see if you go with Srixon irons.
My gen4 irons have lost their place , purchased the zx5’s yesterday.
I thought the Pxg felt nice but these are next level
I thought that you loved the PXG GEN5 T irons! I have this iron and it is everything you love in an iron - looks, feel, performance.
I liked the ZX5s last year, hit the ZX5 MKii this year, ordered them with my preferred shaft and they went in the bag. Great look, great feel, I will have my first outside round on Friday and Saturday this week, then I will know if I really made the correct choice.
Well? It's been a while, did you make tge right choice?
I play last years ZX7 5-PW......no better feeling club and the results are great. Enough said.

I have the ZX5 mkii in 4, 5, and 6 irons (zx7 mkii for 7-A). Best irons I've ever owned. I may find a 7i in the Zx5 to swap out with my Zx7 mkii 7i
I was close 2 years ago ZX5 bought Mizuno disappointed. ZX5 mkII this year NO HESITATION in the bag love them did get 4 & 5 in ZX4 mkII
I have just filmed another video with these irons, should be released very soon
The other year for me it was between the zx5's and the jpx 921 forged. In the end I went for the mizuno but really they were neck and neck

Don't get swallowed by the golf marketing machine those P790s are fantastic clubs!!!
I was fit into the ZX5/ZX7 about 2 weeks ago as a combo set and they were far and above all the others I tested. Amazing clubs here.
Did you have to change the lofts on the ZX7 (make them stronger) for the fitting?
I'm definately going down this route this year , I wish I'd waited the last time for the ZX 7 ZX5 ZX4 , instead went JPX 921 FORGED
Don’t have to look to hard here in Australia to get a set of these from PW - 5 iron for around the $1200. AUD mark (for ZX7, ZX5 or the ZX4) - best value premium irons in the game. Play last year’s ZX5/ZX7 combo and they are great!
Considering this very club now, timely information. Thanks Andy
As I say very impressive
I've been fitted for the zx5s, love them... Great feel..
Good choice!
They look nice.
I have the old 565 model great irons.
What do you think out of the new models would be similar.
I blended their last gen Z-Forged P-7 and ZX7 6-4. Absolutely love them. Also, I would put the looks of the Z-Forged against any iron.
Got fitted for original ZX5s last season, love them.
I can understand why
They look stunning and the idea of blending a set across the 4's, 5's & 7's is a great suggestion
Yeah I really like the idea and may get custom fit
@@TheAverageGolfer That would make a great vid, where would you go for a Srixon fitting?

Hi Andy, how was your swing speed on the measured shots? I swing my 7i at around 78mph and would like to compare this if possible. thx & cheers, Frank
ZX 5 MKII 3-AW for me… let’s see. Like them so far, but I’m a guy who still likes those long irons. They do feel good though.
They are the best looking irons by any OEM this year by far simple design and sleek
Hard to argue
How do they stack up to your pxg’s? I got fitted to the gen 5’s just havnt bought them yet. But dang i love the looks of these and the taylormade p series
Beautiful set of clubs.
Agreed
great review andy, down to Ping G430 and these ZX5/ZX4 combo. Tough choice.
Make sure you try them both 👍
Do they get scrated in the bag as easy as the orignal 585s?
Hi Andy I’d really value your input. I currently have PXG gen 4 but have received an offer for a set on zx5 Mii with SF i95
Hi Andy, I'm looking at changing my old Srixon z765 (which bought after your review). Need a little more help now I'm older. These are on the list. The zx7 is the other on the list. Are you reviewing the hybrids?
Hi John, I’ve seen you with them in action and been a good iron for you. I hope to have the hybrids and woods soon
These look class. I'd really like to invest in some new clubs, but with the current cost of clubs, I'd have to remortgage my house and as I only moved house in September, I don't want to pay an early redemption charge! 🤣🤣🤣

At retail pretty soon
I’m also interested in the mkii irons. Thought of blending the ZX4 5 - 7 irons and ZX5 8 - GW. I assume you would have to adjust some lofts for gapping. Had you done this? Thx, Ric
I have the ZX4 review coming later this week, yes you can get Srixon to make those changes when you order 👍
Edit: all in with 1/2" longer shafts (project x lz 6.0 120gram), 1 degree upright and golf pride mcc decade grips was $1730 CAD.
Srixon irons are sooo under rated
I used srixon 745 these irons were one of the best feeling irons I used. The V-sole is great for hard and soft ground, the bounce allows easy turf interaction. Great workability, very soft feeling and at the time kinda forgiving.
Used my buddy's ZX5 irons and made me regret getting rid of Srixon. The forgiveness of the ZX5 were great, but I m thinking at looking at the ZX7 Mkii irons they look great
Great video
Does anybody know the bounce on these irons? On the 5-9 irons?
What’s that puffer shirt brand? @averagegolfer
Srixon z765 gamer in the house! V sole for the win baby!
I loved my z585 playing t100s now but would give the zx lineup a shot again
If you do get your credit card ready 😂
@@TheAverageGolfer that’s what I’m afraid of 😂

No Great change 👍
How do they compare with mizuno forged ? Same but cheaper ?

I can’t believe you don’t like tea. I thought you were a decent bloke 😂. Great review as always Andy. Loving all your recent videos.
Apologies coffee addict
If I was looking, I would be looking at a set of Srixons... Possibly the new Cobras, maybe Pings
These are very tempting
My Pxg gen4 may be loosing their place in my bag this year , these look stunning
They are very tempting
The zX4 would probably be for me.
It’s very impressive
Review later on in week
Great sole option for the diggers/steep swingers out there no doubt.
Yep it supposedly helps but I couldn’t verify
I have a feeling you are going to enjoy the ZX7s even more.
they look lovely but as you say. would I buy strixon Hmmmm.
Srixon make some good clubs but lack uk distribution.
Really? Available from our partner HotGolf?
@@TheAverageGolfer Yes, online but not many local for fitting which is a pity
btw: Srixon & Cleveland just RULE!;-)
I'm not a srixon fan boy by any means , but you are doing the zx-5 a big disservice by mentioning the p790 in the same breath. The p790 is a nice looking iron but feels very clicky and very inconsistent distance control.
they do look good but think I need to go down the road of hybrid iron like the launch something like them
I like the look off the new stealth HD irons but well out off my price range by far
Look forward to you reviewing the entire Srixon lineup. Looking really strong this year….
ZX4 coming later this week
The carry difference between PW and 7 Iron seems a lot 40 yards ? Is there a gap issue?
Andy I think it's impressive that your peak height was highest with the 5 iron!
Not compared to my 7 wood 😂
why not use zx4 through the whole bag?
Because they are too big for what I like to see at the mid to short irons 👍
