This is so interesting, I could listen to this gentleman all day. I have got a collection (of sorts), very specialised, about 2,000 volumes, but it contains nothing remotely as old or as expensive as the volumes he talks of. For all that, the experience of getting started and building up a collection is immediately recognisable. You buy one book, apparently with no particular motivation, and it leads to another one, connected with it. And then something you have bought leads you sideways to another subject and you are off, following another pathway. It's such an adventure, so interesting. Then there are books about books, an endless subject. The history of books and printing is enthralling. Thank you, professor, for your knowledge and wisdom.
Thank you for this! It was profoundly interesting to hear Mr. Bonfield talk about his collection, as well as his experiences and development as a collector.
Love old books, but I’ll never have the money to buy these kinds of books. 30 years ago they were just a little out of my budget and now they cost 10 times as much. They go up in price faster than I can make the money to buy them.
Haha yes, " no i am not interested in the 600 books, i would only like these 5. I will pay you $10 a piece. That's a good price for old books! - the bookvulture "
