Originally this was a nightmare scene intended to be in the first Toy Story. It was supposed to show how Andy was favoring Buzz over Woody. However, Pixar realized that Woody falling off the bed was already a sign about that so they scrapped the idea. They later incorporated the idea into Toy Story 2
That was also a way creepier nightmare, because of the cockroaches eating Woody and how Andy was way more hostile; not to mention the camera zooming in on Woody's face while andy was playing with Buzz, looked like a psychological thriller scene.
@@basedbattledroid3507 Yeah. Andy was portrayed as way more hostile, while in the nightmare sequence of Toy Story 2, he just seems like he lost the will to live. He speaks in a monotone and has a blank, glassy, almost lifeless look.
I like the details in the nightmare like how the toys are playing cards but all the cards are the ace of spades, and when woody's in the bin he's pulled down by the discarded right arms of toys, same arm as his one that tore.
I think you don’t understand how both storyboards and pitches work. A storyboard is one of many routes a movie can go, whether they’re small changes like dialogue or an entire scene. And a pitch, well, pitches the scene to the directors, producers, and editors. This was a tape recording of the scene being pitched, and it was accepted.
It’s not the first time he was involved in a nightmare scene in an animated movie. He also worked on The Brave Little Toaster and was the voice of the demonic firefighter clown in Toaster’s nightmare. That particular scene still scares the daylights out of me.
Same when I was little it scared me but not all of it it just the bye woody part scared me the most when I was little but not anymore because I learn that it just a movie
Reckno64 He was the original member of the Brain Trust, alongside the primary directors, and was great for the writing and supervising at the stories, but never got a chance to direct his own movie as he only co-directed Cars , and voiced characters such as Heimleich the catalpellier and Wheezy the squeaky penguin. Joe Ranft died in a car crash when his driver went out of control as they fall to their death, while the 3rd passenger manage to survive but has some injuries on August 16, 2005 when Cars was in the making; The film is dedicated to his memory, alongside the video game tie-in and Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. This would explain why Red the firetruck is crying and was the true heart & soul of PIXAR as mentioned by John Lasseter 😭😔
That's interesting although I like Woody's Nightmare in the second one as it's more scary getting dragged by multiple arms and screaming and begging for help is a lot scarier especially Andy's Bye Woody.
You should also do a video where it shows Joe Ranft's footage of him pitching it. I don't care which version you have, whether it's from Toy Story 2 Special Edition or the Ultimate Toy Box.
I know. I think they should have kept how they ignore him when he says it, because it would have been a great way to show the fear Woody was feeling of worthlessness and not worth listening to, in his nightmare
Ah yes, The storyboard animation looks really great. This is really look like the original scene of Toy Story's Black Friday Reel Deleted scene due in original fnf mood appearance.

SuperJackster01 Yet they kept the idea for the video game.

Video games are developed while the film is in the making. The developers receive what could POSSIBLY be in the film and work from that.
@@basedbattledroid3507 that whole scene was disturbing so glad they cut that from the first movie

1:57 "Bye Woody." AND HE'S LIKE "NO NO NO!!!" That part was funny.
Honestly people though it was scary but I'm like this is the most funniest andy ever been lol.
Me too
And he’s getting pulled down further and further
Same, I kinda find it more funny than scary even when I was just a kid
And then Andy covers up the trash can *POOM* and it goes to black.
It can't be only me who got scared of this scene when they were young.
You weren’t the only one lol
I think you are
MarEpor you weren't the only
trust me you aren't
Nope. I was pretty scared of this scene. XD
I like the details in the nightmare like how the toys are playing cards but all the cards are the ace of spades, and when woody's in the bin he's pulled down by the discarded right arms of toys, same arm as his one that tore.
Man I would say this and the furnise scene in toy story 3 the 2 darkest toy story moments
This scene made it into the final film. This is just a storyboard pitch
You don't say...?

That panel where Andy puts the lid over the trash can looks like The Ring.
that would’ve been quite the homage have they kept that part i- oh, i forgot, that movie wouldn’t’ve been released til 2002
@@bruhchamp16593 what are you talking about
@@bruhchamp16593 there was a ring movie in 1998 around the time this film was in production but in Japan the American adaptation came in 2002

I seen that movie.
It's got a remake too called Rings.
Woody: *wakes up from his nightmare, screaming* AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
Rex: Woody are you alright you just have a nightmare
Woody meets wheezy and saves him from the yard sale.
Woody- aaaaahhhhhhh
Buzz- woody are you ok
Woody- no I not I just had the most terrifying nightmare ever
Buzz- it ok it was just nightmare
Bo: Andy not goes give away you
@@teagsmid3707 woody- your right it was just a nightmare and Andy will never do that
RIP Joe Ranft...
I didn't realize that until just now. He was good at pitching this scene.

@jamesfarrell4071 Oh, I forgot about that. I did see that movie as a kid, but I totally forgot all about that scene.
He was one of the best story writers, at Pixar.
Iconic scene. Scared the crap out of me as a kid 😂
What do you think was more dark between the furnace scene from the third movie, or the shower scene from "Schindler's List"?

Bad Dream story board.

Then woody wakes up and screams in front of Andy. busted
BAH!!

Rest in peace joe ranft.. :(
That's right, he died in 2005 after a car accident. He was such an important part of Pixar....

Well thanks for scaring me with that scene, Pixar!
scaring or scarring?
@@cartoonmaster2401 Come on, this ain't Inhumanoids, just regular scaring. No lasting damage.
Its so sad to ever think of Andy getting rid of Woody. Especially since Woody is the last thing Andy has of his father who died as a war hero.
1:11 - 1:14 I dont know why, but this makes laugh so much!
Fun fact: The poker cards that Woody plays with briefly in Bonnie’s closet is a callback to the nightmare sequence in Toy story 2.
2:07 Looks like The Ring
👏👏👏
Damn story board Andy looks like a side character in a movie that’s secretly revealed to be the bad guy near the end of the film
You mean Stinky Pete?
I love the sound effects and music they added in that scene in the film, after Andy says "I don't wanna play with you anymore" 👁👄👁

The final cut is a fever dream If I ever seen one
I can watch the storyboard version, but not the final scene. The scene gave me actual nightmares for almost every night
Same I had nightmares about it too
this is insane they even showed us all this behind the scenes shit like they ddnt have to do that. so inspiring & amazing work they have achieved.
Joe Ranft is so awesome!
The storyboard versions of the characters look lowkey than their 3D models in the movie
