Thanks Valerie! Your reactions are always so nice. This duet has also received a lot of negative reactions, people saying that you shouldn't cover a Queen song. Well if people like Joe, Roel and the Marcel Fisser band do it like this, how can anyone object. It really was the fireworks ending of this season 🙂
Joe is a great singer, up-n-coming as he's still relatively new to the scene, but Roel (Rool) been around for ages and he's a born entertainer, does a LOT of charity work and helps other artists wherever and whenever he can. For instance, he wrote a song for a young girl who had been through hell and back (war, rape.. you know all that bad stuff that happens in the world sadly) who uses her experiences to help others, the song he wrote for her is HER song, he gave her the complete rights to the song as a means of extra financial support. (That is the kind of stuff he does for others, great guy) We sometimes jokingly say that Roel is a giant of a man in a tiny package, but it kind of isnt a joke, yes he's small in stature but he IS a giant in terms of being a good human being and an example for others to follow. Joe, as i said, is relatively new to the game and gets thrown into "the pit" with all these veterans of music on this show, and easily holds his own, but also was embraced with open arms by all other contenders, giving him tips, helping him with anything and making sure he felt at home and was there (on the show) for all the right reasons, that he deserved to be there. He has a soothing type of voice, not a rock star voice (but he can rock!), and his music carries a message.. you could say he's an "old fashioned" type of performer. I loved you saying sometimes they want to do something to challenge themselves. You are totally correct. Joe wanted to challenge himself with his duet choice. So he chose to do a Queen song with Roel. That was something nobody expected but was totally awesome. Especially with all the others on the couch behaving like background singers and they enjoyed themselves immensely. Thank you for reacting. I also want to say that I'm so sorry about your great loss. Roel is already very known in the Netherlands as Van Velzen. He realy prepared about a year to sing all the songs in Beste Zangers and he nailed it everytime with his specially (re)written songs.

All the Dutch words with 'OE' are pronounced like 'OO' in school. If it was like you said it would be Roël. BTW funfact de Dutch word 'school' is written the same and has the same meaning but its pronounced like goal and the 'sch' sounds like a hard G with an s in front . So not skhool but sghoal.
