I love how you call the cap "a confection"! I feel that way about caps and little lacy things! Aprons can be that way sometimes. It's so much fun when we can adorn ourselves with sweet little fripperies that make life fun!

Hello. I clicked on your vid because that cap is pretty, feminine, and dainty. I'm a francophile and a lover of corsets and all vintage/antique women's fashion. Thank you for teaching me what a fichu was!😍 I want a fichu and cap now!

As an old lady, I would look a right twit in frills and bows, HOWEVER, as inspiration for porcelain dolls - your channel is tops. My lady doll is a 40 inch stunner. Your Robe a la Francaise would suit her timeless beauty, at present she is wearing a Victorian bustle ball gown. I am very tempted to try your amazing gown. Thanks so much for your love and generosity in sharing your gifts.

My favourite was definitely the 18th century stays videos! It was really cool to see you work with reed boning instead of plastic or steel. I also just love watching your creative process!

It's not the first time I notice your use of a nursing pillow to secure your work and it made me happy to hear you mention it! I think it's a great use for it (even if I don't sew). It's similar to what we did as children when making friendship bracelets (or straight into your pant leg...). Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Great tutorial! I'm trying to psych myself up to start making the American Duchess 18th century stays, but maybe I'll start by making a cap, then I can wear it while I work on my stays. LOL! My favorite video in your Robe a la Francaise series is the Constructing of the Pocket Hoops. You made them seem very doable! You have such an easy way on camera, and I always enjoy your videos. Cheers.

I loved your video on making a chemise. I actually used your instructions to make two nightgowns, one with sleeves and one without. Not, sadly, historically accurate, but still very comfortable!
I actually subscribed to you while you were on that big hiatus in the middle of your big series. I was so surprised to see you were finally finished, and I loved the final product!
(On a side note, your stitching looks divine. Nothing like crooked stitching to ruin everyone's fun.)

YAY! NEW VIDEO :) I appreciate how you turned your lost footage situation into a happy surprise give away! Thanks for the hard work!
Also! Like many, my favourite part of the series has got to be the stays videos! (although I love and reference them all) It is perhaps the only documented process on youtube that is comprehensive enough to really carry a new-commer hobbyist through the journey of making an entire stay from scratch! Without those videos I would never have been able to make my first sewing project without the help of a commercial pattern or guide. (Yes I was crazy enough to make an 18th cent stay as the very first piece of sewing in my life😆😆😆)
    THANK YOU!

Thank you, thank you. I also have a 23 inch head. After two failed atempts at making a cap, having everything turn out too small and becoming very frustrated; I am very grateful for your wonderful video. Afterall, the third time is the charm! BTW, this is my favorite video.

I also have a 23 inch head...but it appears after reading the comments that I--my opinion--think the finished cap is STILL too small and needs to be yet bigger. It looks like--even securely pinned--that it is going to pop off your head.
However, it IS lovely, and the construction is top notch!!!

I think the enlarging of hats is something I would have to do on all patterns. I have our familial big head, so most hats generally don’t fit me. My dad has an even worse problem with hats fitting. I even decided to crochet him a hat and it still wasn’t big enough. I finally got a huge floppy type hat and it was the first hat he’s had in forever that fit him. Now that I’m trying sewing, I may have to attempt a sewn fleece type hat for him.
    That hat is soooo cute!

My favorite part was the construction of the stays. I just wanted to say thanks. I have to admit I don't have a favorite video within this series as watching your adventure in sewing your Robe a la Francaise. I liked watching each one as your adventure helped me in my own adventure in sewing. I've been slowly growing my historical wardrobe and your videos help me make my own gear.
I've pulled parts of your playlist for my own research. For example, all of your undergarments have gone there as your stays video has helped me in tandem with American Duchess'. One day, I hope to make a Robe a la Francaise. Thanks for all you do

Love everything you do, your sense of humour is wonderful. I think the thing I like best is your attention to the smallest detail with all your work, your stitching is just amazing, I dont think I could do it, I have hand sewn a french hood which I was very proud of but compared to your work, I am a noob. Pinning sewing down does make it easy to do.

Your series of videos construction a full robe la francaise was actually one of the first ones to catch my attention and make me fall in love with that particular ensemble. It inspired me to do my research and I hope to start on the undergarments soon. As for which one in particular was my favourite, that is difficult as each one was just as engaging and inspiring as the other with the wonderful pieces you created and the amazing encouragement you gave!
Unfortunately I do not have much of a fondness for the fichu or cowl (who knows? I may yet learn to properly appreciate them) but that’s not your fault! It’s just me being me. So I hope you have other projects to come in the near future as I have enjoyed this set!

Ahh perfect timing, I am literally going to a revolutionary war reenactment n Feb and i have been watching your stays videos over and over in order to make my own. I am literally hand sewing on binding as i watch this video and my next project was going to be my shift, pockets, fichu and cap lol. I have 3 weeks i can do t, i think lol. But so far the stays video my favorite to watch.

My favourite was this one, since I watched it to figure out how to make a fichu for everyday wear!

I think this is the first time I have seen someone actually roll a rolled hem. I have been taught that a rolled hem is something totally different. Looks pretty though.

I have loved the Robe a la Francaise since the very beginning, but as a "quick" thing to do, I am going to try the cap. I have wanted one for the longest time and I think I have enough fabric and lace left over from a clothing construction class that I took in college where I made an heirloom sewing christening gown a la Martha Pullen. (Now just to find the fabric is going to be an ordeal since I took the class over 25 years ago.) Love your videos! Thank you!!

My favorite video was the pocket hoops and foundation in general because hopefully soon I plan to start an 18th century inspired Cinderella, I have a pattern for the dress itself and I'm fairly confident in my ability to put that together, however the foundation I'm less sure of and I'm currently eating up foundation videos.

i just discover your channel, and just watched it in full.
man, this is awesome ! suck a work you've been doing !
being french myself, i send my compliments about how you pronounced "bergère" ;)
my favourite part was the one where you pleat all those "watteau" back shoulder pleats. mostly because of all the info i get from this footage, since i am currently struggling with a "pet-en-l'air" gown (which is -more or less- a shorter version of "à la française" gown).
keep on what you're doing, you're so good at it.
and as a side note : hell yeah, XVIII th century rocks the house. definitly.

nice ! mine will be made from printed cotton "à l'indienne" (= clear fabric with more coloured flowers design), dusty pink petticoat, ivory stomacher. i'll be looking forward to see yours !
(well, i say "mine" as in "the one that i make" not "the one that i will wear", since it is actually for my wife btw...)

Absolutely lovely work! I have the American Duchess book myself but havent yet started on the accessories for my dresses. That handy trick with the pillow, did you get it from Bernadette? She showed it a couple times in her videos too! I have to admit, my favorite video of yours is the very first. I know, its odd, but describing your ideas and the planning is so inspiring it makes me itch to sew. Love your work!

Thank you for these videos. The tips and guidance you give are so helpful to me, I haven't started on the stays yet,but plan to do so soon. I feel more confident now making my cap too. Would you consider making a video on the silk hat construction ? [ its sort of large baseball cap shape]

Awe thank you. Truthfully I only began practicing my handsewing in 2018. Before that I begrudgingly handsewed projects only when needed.

Not what you asked for but I just wanted to say that when I tried to use that pattern it was WAAAAAAY too small and I had to math my way to a bonnet that fit my head! Wish I could find an affordable hat of the right shape to go over it...
