  • The Mosin Nagant is an incredible, battle proven rifle. It has proven itself time and time again in both world wars. The Mosin Nagant is a simple, reliable and rugged rifle. The bolt on this piece is no different. Stripping a Mosin Nagant bolt is incredibly easy and is easily done with no tools!

    Small world, sort of, I just finished commenting on the 10 year review of your AVX and saw this. I have a 1938 Czech VZ-24 Mauser, a WW II bring back, so all original numbering, that I bought from a friend for $50 bucks seven or so years ago. Looks like we have at least two common interests.

      never heard of a problem with too long Firing pins in the mosin, the only that can really happen is that the bolt becomes too short over time and simply wont fire anymore, but thats not dangerous as long as you wait a few secs after the misfire

    I'm having a problem with my Mosin. Every time I slide the bolt back it cocks the trigger, like it should, but when i push it forward it fires. I haven't spent any rounds through it because i noticed it was doing this, thankfully. What is the reason you might think that the trigger is engaging when the bolt is brought forward?

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +joe file When you finish reassembling the bolt, are you making sure that the nub on the charging knob falls back into place on the guider bar? That is the only reason why I could see that happening.

    What if the firing pin is longer than the 2nd groove of your multitool?

    • @fallvegas
      @fallvegas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +DJ Felix Appearntly if it's longer it can puncture the bullet causing blowback.

    • @djfelix2429
      @djfelix2429 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +fallvegas I was implying that my firing pin is longer than the 2nd groove, is there anything I can do about that without taking it to a smith?

    • @fallvegas
      @fallvegas 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJ Felix Personally I would fiddle with it for quite sometime trying to get it right, I mean unless something is wrong with the bolt you should be able to get on your own.
      If you have the little tool that might have came with it or a flathead screw driver you can turn the bit at the center of the bolt. Just match it up with the lines, and make sure it's flush, pretty much like he said.

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DJ Felix You have received good advice from fallvegas. Hopefully that works out for you!

    • @djfelix2429
      @djfelix2429 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that I have it flush, and it's still about a quarter of a centimeter longer than the 2nd groove. I also have a problem where the bolt doesn't pull smoothly, but mine was manufactured during World War 2, and those models apparently have that problem, where it clicks as you pull it up and clicks again as you push it down. It will also lock up if a bullet is in the chamber and the bolt won't open.

    I know this vid is really old but for future viewers. I personally wouldn't recommend using the guide rod as a tool to remove/install the firing pin and spring. If you don't have the proper tool made for it, you can get one of those little ignition wrenches, or a small crescent wrench, anything but a part of the bolt. It's a tough chunk of metal but with so many other ways to do it, why risk spreading the end of that guide rod?

  • @rush2124u2
    @rush2124u2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    You should mention how to take out the bolt, out, not everyone knows to pull the trigger while pulling the bolt to release it.
    Nice touch 3 steps to remove the firing pin, very cool press against a soft surface and unscrew from the top, too easy, nice
    The video was well done and informative.

    I have a simple question though I'm not sure you'll even see this comment after 7 years and 2 month's after recording this video but here goes: First I'll explain my problem, my bolt is Incredibly Hard to work Especially turning it to the Safe Mode and More Especially with returning the bolt back to the firing position which is itself Not unusual because Everybody whose made a video about this rifle has said the same thing regarding that function.
    Anyway, I have not only cleaned every piece of it and the whole rifle but did some careful filing on parts of the bolt that still had machining marks and rough or sharp edges that had Nothing to do with it's functioning and have 5 years of Machine Shop experience with milling machines, lathes etc, so I know what I'm doing in that regard.
    I have determined that it is the spring that causes the Very Hard tension in the all-around operation of the bolt and thought that clipping a loop or two Off the spring would make it a little easier in it's operation which makes sense to me, but I Don't want to ruin it if I'm Wrong because I Don't have one to replace it. The spring seems Overly and unnecessarily strong and wonder if You have encountered this or know of anyone who has and might have fixed the issue by doing as I'm suggesting by shortening the spring just a loop or two?
    I'd really appreciate it if you see this and Especially if it Is something you've experienced and maybe tried or know of someone who did. So, Happy Holidays to you either way.

    There are too many people who don’t know how to properly disassemble and maintain their rifles, too many grandpas who only bring it out to shoot a deer and never think about it, too many people who carry daily and rarely inspect or clean their firearms. Anyone who owns a firearm should adopt the militaristic mindset of taking care of your rifle (or handgun, shotgun, etc) and truly learn how it works and how to maintain the beautiful machine it is. I own a mosin and when I got it I found it too risky to try and completely disassemble the bolt so I only took off the bolt face and guide rail, this video was long overdue.

  • @jon4139

    I would avoid using the bolt connector to inscrew the firing pin, it's not a particularly strong piece. Ive come across more than one with hairline cracks down the middle where it forks, and some that are bent slightly. It's a nice trick but you're not in the field and desperate for tools, just use the cheap mosin multitool.

    The third disassembly way reminds me of the Lebel M1886 and partially of the Mauser 98 I think it would be useful though unnecessary to have a stock disassembly disk like you see on the Mauser Gewehr 98 and KAR98K.

    the final method is very much like the Mauser disassembly when using the stock with the disk holes as a disassembly tool. Overall... seems like less of a pain in the ass than disassembling the mauser, there's less fighting against the compression.

      It's kinda like how the tip of the bayonet can be used as a flathead screwdriver to screw/unscrew the reciever
