Very nice video, thank you. Theres is/was a way to set various HP laptop models to boot from a USB stick (overriding the BIOS boot order) to upload a BIOS file, by pressing WIn+V, Win+B, or just the B key (depending on the model), then holding these keys down whilst pressing the ON button. I'm not sure on which models it worked and if it forces a boot of whatever is on the stick or only a BIOS flash. Does anyone know more about the parameters of this method and if it still works? (EDIT: and the code/file to put into the USB was available from HP on their help pages though I don't know if it was a bootable file in the normal sense or just a .bin file which was booted/read in some special way).
@@SOSfixElectronics Its a good idea indeed.Problem can be if the new eeprom is easily available.Keep up the great work. Also if you can, upload the txt file with the address of the hex code that has the password.
hello doctor, your video is really exceptional for me, I really appreciated thank you from the bottom of my heart, I have a single question, the hexadecimal code that you are looking for on hxd is it to be applied only to this model or to all the models that you quote in the description
@@redxan My guesstimate: the password is stored in some of these memory locations - and for it to be a character (say 1-9, A-Z) then it would have to have the ASCII HEX equivalent of a character stored in these bytes. If what is stored is null (FF) then it won't see a password as it scans for one: It probably scans looking for not-null entries (anything except FF) and if it sees any then it will ask for something to be entered on the keyboard - and check if it's the same by comparison.
If the read / write / verify is bad on the memory chip then you can check the voltage the CH-341 programmer is providing, it might be weak. In that case just feed external voltage 5V or 3.3 V or whatever the chip need directly to the programmer from your bench power supply.
Hi, we have HP EliteDesk 800 G9 Mini that has Administrator Bios password locked. Do you support this model? If so, can we ship you the item for repair?
Looks like I will have to reprogram the BIOS chip on mu Elitebook 840 G6 to reprogram it. Has anyone tried doing it still on the motherboard (using a chip clamp) or does it have to come right off? Is there a chip cradle/socket one can solder onto the motherboard which fits so that the BIOS chip can be replaced easily in the future without soldering? Cheers.
@@SOSfixElectronics thanks - just as a matter of interest - why is that better, if there is clearance to close the laptop case etc? I'm interested to play with this idea. Thanks again.
should it always be a Winbond chip for the bios password to be stored or could it be another brand? I have the exact laptop model, but the chip is different from yours. Same size but different brand.

Hi, i have hp elitebook 840 g7. in my case the chip on the position shown in the video is not a winbond chip. its an issi ic25lp128. unfortunatly all programmers (asprogrammer, neopragmmer and the ch341a programmer) are not able to detect this chip. so im wondering if the winbond chip might be the wright one. but its not in the same position on the board. can you help me?

Question: there is this address that you copy pasted then replaced it with "FF"
how or where did you get the address from?🙏
What temp on the hot air do you use when removing the chip? I am having a really hard time getting the chip off, you did it in just a few seconds!

I think I missed something. Why change the eeprom with a new one, instead of programming the unlocked bin to the old one?
i like to keep the old eeprom untouched incase something wont wrong.

Are you able to provide an unlocked smc.bin file for the EliteBook x360 830 G8? HP says they need to replace the mainboard... ridiculous!

@@gurglejug627 there is a socket look by ship package on AliExpress you will see many there. But is better to solder the chip direct to the board

yes, CH341a MiniProgrammer

could be any brand just should be same as 3.3v or 1.8v, and should be the same size is better for flash
