    Fantastic!! When I started watching your channel, I thought, "I can do that!" I still haven't done any of 'that,' and now your skills are so well developed that I find myself thinking, "I could never do 'that'!" Great job!!

    Absolutely loved this one! I've watched a lot of your videos. I've worked in the furniture/renovation business for the past 10 years and the care and attention you put into your projects I don't even see from some my fitters/ carpenters... Kudos!

    Hi there!
    Nice job on that bathroom!
    If I want to put screws in the side of MDF, I always put wooden dowels in first. They are easily hidden by the hinges. It helps out a ton doing so.
    Regards,
    Etna!

    One of my key questions is how you balance your DIY, Work, family time. I am in a similar boat to you, but I often find that playing with Duplo or taking my son out to ride his bike will quickly wipe out a weekend leaving no time. I need to spray paint my MDF cabinets and floating shelves this weekend... will I get them done or will I build another garage in Duplo... lets see.
    For any serious DIY/self build dads out there, how do you get the right balance? Also, I don't want to ignore my wife all the time but I pretty much now, work, play with son, work on house etc. she sort of gets taken for granted as just being there! This is where holidays are great away from the house (as I cannot worry about not having done anything because I am away from it all!) but I don't want to abandon my family too much yet want to crack on. Wife is very understanding and a good woman, as a man I cannot actually complain about her, but my guilt gets to me! She let me build for 3 years including starting a major part of the extension 1 week before 1st born was due. He started life sleeping through a nail gun!
    My wife goes to sleep quite early so I tend to go out to my garage workshop to work on projects, but issue is I need down time too.
    Thoughts and pointers from other dads like me would be interesting.

      I think this is something we have struggled with most over the years. Tim, like you, has worked throughout all pregnancies and births and I’ve chipped in where I can. I think the only advice we have is do bits with your kids where you can. We got the kids to paint ‘where the cupboards would be’ and they find the screws when doing a project in the garden. At the end of the day you are showing your kids a great work ethic so keep that in mind but it’s great you are still prioritising spending time with them as they are only young once. We were lucky in one way as Tim’s job was varied time wise so some weeks he would have loads of time to get stuck into a project and others he wouldn’t have any. Going forward Tim and I are going to prioritise a date night of sorts or get a diy project going that we can both do together. Thanks for speaking up about these things. Remember most of our projects have taken a lot longer than the sped up video! 😉

    Looking great Tim! Is it a Nuaire extractor fan? I’m on the look out for a quieter one and I’ve heard these are meant to be quiet. Loving the hand wash basin on top of that oak worktop all oiled up with the OSMO. 👍 as you say a bathroom fitter would charge a few grand for that lot and that would be with flat pack units off the shelf. And for hand made, well stick another grand on. Really does show that if you absorb as much info as you can on any subject you can pull something off that your proud of! Nice one! 👍

    Could I ask what you had to have in terms of building control for the bathroom install? I'm about to move (hopefully) and have eyed up putting an upstairs shower room in a bungalow, but have read you need building consent.. obviously electrics will need to be signed off but for plumbing what do they check or inspect?

  • @chrisb4009
    @chrisb4009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video and fantastic result as ever Tim. I’d be a little bit careful removing the front of boilers. It’s a decorative case with your boiler and it’s fine but others can form part of the combustion chamber removing this can be dangerous and is actually illegal if not gas safe. Keep up the great work.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s exactly why, towels, sheets, etc. Minimum clearance is 5mm so plenty more than needed. 👍 If you saw how tight the are usually installed in kitchen units this is pretty roomy. 😀

    Great work but doesnt it make it difficult for the boiler engineer due to access restriction?

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really, the doors clip off and there is loads of access to all pipes, valves and the boiler. If you think that most boilers are tucked inside a kitchen cabinet. The actual clearance required is something like 5mm so lots more than that here.

  • @jlmfoy365
    @jlmfoy365 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Check boiler fitting instructions if cupboard needs venting, not usual on modern appliances but some do, also can you remove the front from the boiler? Regards Jim.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s room sealed and requires no big clearances. I had checked with my installer. That said, I did removed front to fit hinge so it should now be checked again apparently. We need the flu swapped anyway so service due any day. 👍

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Restoration Couple Don't panic over removing the boiler case. Very few boilers use the case to contain combustion gasses these days, and we know yours is brand new. If it was held on by only a couple of screws or so, and didn't have a compression gasket around any parts of it you're good. It's when you open one up and see a flaming burner you need to worry!

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the exact match it’s best to get from same manufacturer as grout. I use BAL. the grey I used on the vanity was a standard grey hence why it’s a little too dark, I’ve ordered the proper stuff for the other parts. 👍

      H Dhanji with an appliance like this the case does not form part of the combustion chamber. Non gas safe people can legally remove and there is no reinstatement. There are other (generally older) appliances which have a case which is used to contain products of combustion.
