CB's had been around since the 1950's, A nationwide trucker strike (1973?) brought their use into the mainstream as non truckers started to use them they faded from non trucker use by the rise of the car phone, But remain in use not only by truckers, But also two-way radio hobbyists as it's the lowest barrier to two-way shortwave communications. Contacts being often possible at hundreds or thousands of miles.
Maybe I'm wrong but I'm thinking that's because it wasn't the thing until after the 2000s… I do not remember that being a thing in the 70s… I was also really surprised to find out that the Electric Slide started in the 70s but maybe I don't know everything. There is at least one more that I felt like in the decade for this.
Lava lamps are still around and are used in....wait for it.......Cyber Security!!! Random number generators are not actually good at creating random numbers. But Lava Lamps are truly random. The Cloudflare headquarters in San Francisco has a wall of over 100 lava lamps that are used to generate random numbers for encryption. A camera on the ceiling takes photos of the lava lamps at regular intervals. The camera's images are converted into a series of numbers. These numbers are used as a starting point to create encryption keys. The random movement of the lava lamps creates unpredictable data that's nearly impossible for hackers to break. The lava lamp wall is also known as the "Wall of Entropy" because it's a constant source of new cryptographic seed data. Yeah, I never saw that one coming....😅🤣😂
I knew people with them, and none had googly eyes. Ya some people did have a mustache, but it wasn't really a style thing, you are showing pics of people now that are in mustache clubs. LOL I don't think anyone actually bought them if they were $75, I hardly seen anyone with one. You seem to negate that bell bottoms were not the only style I always got the boot cut. The only time you would see an actual lava lamp, would be with the stoners. Actually the mismatched socks must have been somewhere else, because to people I knew it was a sign that you got dressed in the dark and you were picked on for it. I never heard anyone use the term "glam rock" They were the punk generation or new age punk. Any man that did a perm, were usually the ones that had hair that would do it naturally and wanted it to look more shaped and not sloppy when having longer hair. Soap operas started on radio, but became popular in the 1950 and sixties, and still people watch them. I didnt see how dive ins peaked in the 1970's, but in the mid 1980's they started dying out wand were pretty much gone by the 1990's. I don't think you really did much research
The best part of the "Pet Rock" was the manual!

Mismatched socks are still available these days. I have a granddaughter who wears them all the time.

I’m 77 and I never heard of mood ring. I guess I was too busy working myself to death.
