Sicilians are southern Italians. Both sides of my family are either Italian (Sicilian) or Russian, they to many people around us are considered white. Russians were considered white to many people during and before the 50s, many people like hitler considered stalin and Mussolini white.

    • @carlosbroch1004
      @carlosbroch1004 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

ethnic Russians are white, but Jews, who are the "Russians" who immigrated to the USA, are not white!
the majority of Sicilians are mestizos, are not Europeans / whites
currently in the USA any mongrel with light skin is considered "white"!

    • @timgora9116

People in this world base race off of looks, I'm saying that people since the 50s have since classified either of them as white or Caucasian because they "look" white. Many Sicilians hate being called mestizos

Nutty college students did that for a very short time. It was a very innocent time, in general. We so enjoyed the simplest things. We savored going to a drive-in or diner. It was excited to see a movie at theater drive-in. The family going on a drive on the weekend was great fun. The younger generations rarely know the sheer pleasure of simple things because they are overstimulated by movies and high tech, always looking for the next thrill. Give me a nice picnic and I'm happy as a clam.

Other things not mentioned in the video. Middle income Americans could easily afford a house, raise a family, and go on multiple holidays and retire comfortable in their 50s. Americans were also more conservative. The teens of the 1950s would end up being shocked a decade later by the summer of love of the 60s.

The car at 0:17 is Not from the 1950's. That appears to be a Chevy Corvair (engine in the back, trunk in the front) and it was produced in the 1960's. I remember my family's Corvair very well--we drove across the US in it several times. The backseat where I sat was low and uncomfortable and a bit warm from being close to the engine.

The 50s was a gime when teenagers respected their elders. When I was in high school (just left) my friends (all of whom wore crop tops and held their massive i phones afront of their eyes) would push past elderly to get good seats on the bus, gave a remark to an old man that he needed to shut up and one of them had a child and didn't take care of her properly (that baby is around a year old now and still lives with the girl, though the girls parents are there). I am a respectable 18 year old who is a student of dinosaur and vertebrate palaeontology and geology, phylogenetics and palaeoartistry.
I would also like to mention music and fashion then was fabulous. I wear a rockabilly dress to school nearly every day and I listen to 50s music. This music has a better timberal range than the autotuned shit my unemployed peers listen to. They still go out on the daily bouncing on dicks and living with their parents while I rent a house with my boyfriend (who is also a palaeontology student) earning our rewards and having fun while we do so

Jose, there is no mention of racism because racism was not a function of the 1950's. It was a function of the deep south, and this video is about the 1950's, not the south. I grew up in Illinois in the 1950's, and a fair number of my classmates were black. We did not discriminate. One of my friends had a black father and a white mother. Yes, in the 1950's.

I attended majority black grammar and high schools in the fifties in a large industrial city. Every black classmate I knew, whether their father was a janitor or a laborer, or a doctor or a lawyer, lived with their father and mother who were MARRIED. Period. The only kids I knew in single parent families were white, some of whom were quite affluent. This is the root of the problem of black America today - it's as simple as that.

you are totally misinformed, some cars got 35 mpg Nash Rambler, Henry J and others, V8s got in the 20mpg range. Seat belts were introduced in 1950 on the rambler and other cars offered them as well later. A/C was avalable on some cars all through the 1950s but was less expensive when Nash introduced it's version which it what cars are still using today. They did offer padded dashed on some cars back then. Unconfortable where did that come from, they were like a living room on wheels.

Many folks have pointed out the 1960s Corvair but there is footage there that was shot in France, most likely in the 1960s also. Hardly America in the 1950s!

Vietnam, in my opinion, is what tore the country in half. The divide has only increased as the decades have gone by. In the 1940s and 50s we were a cohesive population, the 1960s erased that structure and it will never be like again. This country is on the edge of total breakdown in 2020.

Interesting Information about the 1950s, I alway's Wanted to go back in Time and See The Mcdonalds from the 50s but before i would Enter a Time Machine id have to grab all my Dimes First then i would Pay for all the Burgers depending on how much Dimes i'd have and Look around the Restaurant and then i would look out the Window and see all these Cars that i don't Hardly see back in 2016 and i would also have my Phone in Handy but i know they didn't have them Then but i'm talking about Now and i would Record around the Restaurant Inside & Outside and Maybe walk around the Area and then i would be the First Person to ever Record The 1950s in HD 720p Color, Awesome! XD, If only they had Time Machines already :(

@Arun999 as far as.your statement......."the 1950's sound great....but what about if you are brown, asian or jewish"......many "oppressed people" from that era opened their own business because they would not be hired by "white America".....and you know what?......they did alright for themselves......Asians went into restaurants and laundries, jews opened dellies, tailoring shops all kinds of small enterprises (long before super stores / malls etc would put them out of business)

Has anyone here seen what happened to los angeles on youtube? When LA was such a huge manufacturing, oil producing area where people actually worked for a living and didn't wait for their welfare check or seen cleaning their guns for the next gang-bang. Oil was referred to as 'cheap' and oil drew other factories there such as tire manufacturing, etc.
Watching the old videos of this Country sometimes makes me sad

You generalise hundreds of millions of people by saying that younger generations don't appreciate life. We're not mindless drones you know. Eating out used to be more expensive (I'm guessing), now we can import a lot of food incredibly cheaply. Kids didn't get more horrible, life just got more interesting and easy. It's not children who are inherently less innocent, it's the media onslaught on them that your generation(s) created, it's your generations' technology that you created, not children.

Turns out, McCarthy wasn't completely crazy after all. More voices from the past echo other predictions, and those are unfolding too. Seems most of these people I blew off, knew more than me. Being young and dumb, more headstrong and naive. Wonder if we are too late to fix it. ✌

McCarthy was right! We need that again nowadays. Unfortunately, instead of 3 years, it would take 33 years, even at high speed, and you still wouldn't get even 1/10 of one percent of the Communists and un-Americans out of the Federal government. It's sad.

Also, it really doesn't matter what color someone's skin is; get to know them for the person they are, for their character. THAT is what you should judge them on.
Jeez, I wonder what the world would be like if we were all just blind or color-blind...Maybe that's why dogs are so friendly; they have a smaller spectrum of color that they can see. Humans should learn from them.

i think tht in someways, america has improved since then, where everyone now is treated equally, in race and gender. plus, realistic topics, for ex. child and animal abuse are being addressed and not kept behind closed doors. but in other ways, america has gotten worse, like most music, media, and tv shows are now about sex and gettin it in. plus the internet has lured so many perverts and pedos that things arent safe for kids anymore. plus people dressed nice back then, unlike todays fashion.
