He had already tried going down the route Asta was thinking of, and he was discriminated against, and exiled. Remember Your magical attribute is determined when you were born, you can only develop your affinities later in life. Rede's magic attribute is Wraith magic, which is essentially the element of death. He was a magic Knight, a Purple Orca, even though his passive magic blasts were deadly because of his attribute, he only knew one spell as shown in this episode, the affinity of which was creation magic, hence the zombies, but he was kicked out and banished from the kingdom by his Captain; the reason being that he considered his magic dark and taboo, and even if he was only using it against the enemy, evil. The typical social structure of the Clover kingdom is dictated by mana and magic strength, Nobles and Royals are such because they descend from Families who possessed the most mana, and natural talent. Rede's finds it hypocritical that he was banished despite his strength, just because of someone's opinion. Rede's definitely should be punished, but he's merely a symptom of the actual sickness, that being the institutional social corruption that exists within the Clover Kingdom. All of this becomes a major point in the plot ahead so be sure to watch out for that kind of stuff. As a side note, Catherin's Magic attribute is Ash, a subsect of fire magic, and the affinity of her spells appear to be curse type.
