Alan Mearns is an incredible talent. Numerous compliments could be written here. I'm always impressed by his skill, musicianship and deep feeling. Also, no matter how difficult the piece, is his hands are always so very relaxed. His students (if he is also a teacher) are very fortunate.
I hope this video helps spreads awareness and appreciation of Alan Mearns. He is not just a superb performer, but also an outstanding arranger for guitar as well. 🙂
I love this . Alan I would say you are gifted , but that isn't all , I'll bet you've worked quite hard for what you've accomplished , it's you're abundance of love for that beautiful piece of wood that's allowed you to pour your heart out with such beautiful skill . I'm very grateful .
Excellent performance and arrangement Alan. De Fallas worked have always fascinated me since I first heard the Millers Dance and this one is no different.
Agreed. 'Andaluza' from 'Cuatro piezas españolas' (1906-1909), is Falla's much more famous piece, not the 'Serenata Andaluza' from 'Tres piezas de la juventud' (1900).
This is a great performance. However, I feel that the haunting tone of the beginning is completely lost by how rigidly and staccato it is being performed here. Maybe it has to do with the nature of the instrument and harmonics; but somehow the character of the piece feels fundamentally altered.

Widely known as one of the greatest Spanish guitar luthiers. I would say no, not underrated.
