Absolutely crazy thinking about how many generations of tennis Federer has played in so far. The Sampras era, the Hewitt/Roddick era, the Nadal/Djoko era, and now finally the NextGen era. And he's pretty much dominated every era so far besides for the last few years which is understandable considering his age. Confirmed GOAT
Federer hasn't really dominated since 2011. I mean, for much of 2011-2019, federer was third after nadal and djoko and won only 4 grand slams compared to 19 of djokovic and 11 of nadal. So I wouldn't agree that he dominated all the generations, but yes definitely one of the top players in all generations
@@d_bikersound2627 Federer didn't dominate all these eras. Since 2011 he hasn't really dominated. And GOAT should definitely be about numbersand years on top. Not playing in many eras. Still a one of the G.O.A.T s though
prime hewitt was a game changer, he's really a pioneer in this 21st century style of defensive baseliner. Make me cringe when people thinks de minaur is better
Yeah. Hewitt had a lot more talent than De Minaur. His backhand was very good, he had good volleys for a baseliner, good point construction and he was a great counterpuncher. De Minaur is only insanely fast, nothing more... his shots are all weak.
both of Hewitt's success and decline were products of changing times Hewitt was really good at passing serve-and-volley players and had great success when courts were still fast but once courts started slowing and serve-and-volley players started disappearing, Hewitt was basically a predator who lost its prey but even then he would have won a few more big titles if Federer hadn't appeared
Federer has often credited Hewitt for helping transform his game after growing tired of charging the net and watching the baseliner continually pass him while losing seven of of his first nine meetings with the Australian. Federer made his Wimbledon debut with Hewitt in doubles when the pair were teenagers in 1999. The Swiss legend said it had been special enjoying a career-long friendship and rivalry with the former world No.1.
2000-2010 was a great era in tennis in terms of baseline shotmaking... More focus on angles and variety rather than monotonous top spin rallies like now...
Like him or not Prime Hewitt is arguably the quickest player there was. Definetly could of picked up a couple of more slams at his peak between 2001-03 imo before injuries ruined him and took away his main weapon which was his speed. Even after injuries was a real solid player and up until 2005 clearly only Federer was better than Hewitt. If you look up Hewitts Slam records till like 2009 youll find he mostly only lost to either the winner or the runner up.
GOAT! Because Roger makes it look so easy - I don't think a lot of young tennis fans today understand how damned devastating he was from 2004-2010. Yes, his peak years were 2004-2007, but I don't think anyone in their right mind would turn down winning 2 Slams and 80 matches a year instead of 3 Slams and 90 matches.
Great stuff. I have to agree with many other BTL comments here, about how slower courts have changed the game and not necessarily in a good way (imo). These two were great but of course weren't the only ones back then (I mean 90s and early 2000s) whose speed and variety of shot on those hard courts produced staggeringly good matches.
