  • Hey, I’m Sophie, and I’m setting out on a 4500km trip from the South to the North of China. I just arrived at my second stop: Shanghai.
    In this video, we explore the futuristic city of Shanghai at night. We take a trip on the River Ferry to get incredible views of the skyline in a budget, try some Chinese snacks from a convenience store, and take a trip on a tuktuk.
    Check out my last 2 videos to see the start of the journey, in Hangzhou.
    See you next week for more videos (^з^)-☆

    I got scam at Shanghai once, however there was 2 police officer nearby and after I told them what happened, the police only made us pay for what was originally agreed upon. Sometime if there is police nearby and you can speak Chinese, don't be scared, just approach them, the Chinese police are very nice, they will help you out if they know you are a tourist and remember to act nice and within manner.

      @@TravelWithSoph - He actually charged you guys a legal taxi rate for the 20 minute trip in Shanghai. I don't think any "tuk tuk" commercial service is legal in Shanghai . At least you two were not "shanghaied" lol.

    These 3 wheels are meant for handicapped people's self usage only. Carrying passages for money is totally illegal and dangerous. But still, some owners take the risk at night for some extra cash. You should always avoid taking those in the future. Call a Didi car or taxi next time, they're convenient and priced reasonably, more importantly, the passage's safe is covered by insurance.

    OMG, Sophie such bad behaviour should be reported to spare future travellers from the same fate. You should note his tuk tuk registration down and report him to the appropriate authority. China is all about caring for the tourists and not scamming anyone. Unfortunately, you did not do it but next time, please do it to ensure the good reputation of China is maintained.

    • @TravelWithSoph
      @TravelWithSoph  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that is so true, I didn’t think to report it at the time, we just paid and quickly left. If it ever happens again I will definitely do that. Thank you for your advice!

      @@TravelWithSoph I had a dishonest client, a bogan (equivalent to the football terrace lout) and he used, to scam by reporting to the local police of his camera equipment being stolen when he travelled overseas. He particularly love scamming in the Philippines whereby he paid a bribe to get a stolen goods report so that he can claimed from his travel insurance, what is essentially goods that never left him. In Hangzhou, he tried it and the Chinese police detained him to assist them in their investigation. His own brother who was teaching in Hangzhou, English, knew that the game was up and pretended to tell the police he borrowed the camera equipment without telling his own brother. He told me the story and was so relieved that they were not caught out. He was surprised that the Chinese police were genuinely concerned that tourists are being scammed.

      @@hangtuah888 gosh what a crazy story. It gives tourists a bad reputation, really awful. I just went to Cambodia and Michelle’s phone got stolen. The police were not helpful at all. It can be scary when things like that happen, especially when you don’t speak the language

    no you didn't get scam.. that is actually quite cheap.. the going rate is usually between between 30RM and 35RM Depending where you are..

    • @hangtuah888
      @hangtuah888 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You cannot say that as you are not a party to the transaction. He could have told Sophie that it is going to be 30 yuan for the ride and then that should be the price to be paid and no misunderstanding whatsoever.

    • @TravelWithSoph
      @TravelWithSoph  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes 35rmb is the going rate. He said 30 before we got in the Tuktuk, and changed the price at the end of the ride so it was 60rmb
