I laughed hard at the contestant's "No, thank you" response, and the celebrity panelists seemed to be really "on" for the whole episode. Two very likeable contestants too. I wish that the audience had gotten a chance to react to Fannie's "Tee Peeing Bull" answer! (Oh, and Gene's line about the six-pack in his dressing room was great! I don't think a game show host could get away with that line today.)

(To recap: yesterday a new champion was crowned and for the super match suggestions she picked Richard, Fannie, and Charles and went with Richard's answer to win $500 in the audience match just as time ran out.) And for the 19th of the past 20 times, Richard is chosen for the H/H match... Today's question: "________ Machine" Maybe a little harder than yesterday's? I'll say Sewing Machine. The contestant looks serene. The camera cuts to Mr. Dawson as he finishes his response. Ding! I'll be darned. I matched the contestant again. I've been doing that a lot lately. But the question is, will Richard match her? (The audience gave "lukewarm applause" so I'm thinking there's a more obvious answer?) Richard references gambling and reveals "Slot" machine. (I guess washing machine would have been another possibility.) No match today. Another quick game. Another new champion. He calls on Fannie (perhaps to apologize), Richard, and Charles for audience match suggestions. He takes Fannie's answer and wins $250. ...But, just like yesterday, time runs out, and we'll have to wait until next time for the H/H match. (For the contestant it'll be a longer wait: This show was taped on October 19, 1975. The next show will be taped on Halloween (!) October 31, 1975.) This week there were 5 H/H matches altogether, and 2 were successful: Richard 2/5 Yes, it was all Richard all the time for the second week in a row. In fact, other than Mary Ann Mobley's win in episode 585, it's been only Richard all the way back to 573 when Brett had an unsuccessful attempt. I miss the weeks when 2 or even 3 different celebs got to play the H/H match. It was more interesting that way. At any rate, Richard ends the week at 40.1%, virtually where he started, and, obviously, no other movement in H/H stats this week: Both William Shatner and Julie Harris "retire" from Match Game '7x without ever being chosen for the head-to-head match. Fannie remains at her 52.6% H/H accuracy rate, better than any of the three regulars and better than even Betty White (who would be my first choice to call on for the H/H match if I were playing back then)! And, as an added bonus, Fannie returns next week! Yes, she's pulling her third Match Game "double"! Along with Fannie and our three regulars, we once again have two "one-and-done" celebs in the same week: Joe Silver takes the #1 position and Esther Rolle is given the #4 seat. In the past I've mentioned that booking two new celebrities the same week doesn't seem like the best programming strategy, and nothing has changed my mind in the meantime. ...And here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Pretty good week this week but Richard managed to take it again for the regulars giving away 11,500 dollars in audience match and head to head match matches with 14 matches. Fannie won for the semi regulars giving away 750 dollars in audience match match with 10 matches. Charles gave away 500 dollars in an audience match match.
