- This year for just the third time in all my Vegas trips, I stayed not on a glamourous Strip hotel but in that one place that gives you a slice of home whenever you walk into that room: a timeshare condominium. I first stayed in a suite when I was on a spring break trip to Lake Tahoe as a kid, and then two times stayed at my relatives' timeshare on past two trips. And here, it's in that one complex that is actually located in the vicinity of my family's favorite Strip hotel -- and it comes just before it turns 50 in the new year.
Glance at it on the Maps app of your mobile device, and you'll find the Jockey Club: a hybrid condo hotel and timeshare property that is surrounded by The Cosmopolitan. It opened in 1974 in a much different Las Vegas Boulevard than it is now, and three & a half decades later had the last Strip hotel built during the building boom be constructed around it -- and so connected are the Club and Cosmo that there is actually a hidden elevator entrance near the back of the casino & its lobby.
For the specifics: our suite room was a one-bedroom condo with a bathroom, king-size bed in the master bedroom, a full kitchen with microwave & stove, a dining table, and a separate living area with a cable-connected HDTV with DVD player and a stereo system, plus free wi-fi. And that living room was where I stayed at because there's a queen-size sofa sleeper, but our window view was just facing a wall - but to us that's not as important as having a place to stay.
