  • This is a walking tour and hotel review of Courtyard by Marriott Phuket, formerly known as Patong Merlin Hotel.
The hotel itself is a nice family hotel with very nice staff. Unfortunately, the surroundings are not child and youth friendly.

This review is a little harsh and reeks of someone that has never been to Patong before! This has recently re-opened and clearly going through major renovations. The only Hotels or resorts actually on the beach are over $300 USD a night. This hotel is in a great location! Near many great markets Otop and Chino Yard. Restaurants, shopping etc. Red Light district? Have you not been to Bangla road? The Kee resort is close to red light district. I think it is a stretch to say that Otop is red light. In fact the Thai girls are very respectful to families! As always if you use caution to cross a road, this is not a problem. One would actually say that crossing the road to the beach near the Courtyard (old Merlin) is easier than crossing the road at the Bangla road end!

Hello and thank you for your comment. You are absolutely right, it is our first time in Patong - and our last.
The hotel itself was nice, clean and modern. The staff was lovely. But as soon as we stepped outside the hotel grounds, both my husband and teenage son were stopped and grabbed by people in the massage and bar industry. This is not respectful. On several occasions I had to intervene to get them to leave my son alone. And this was not even on Bangla rd, but near our hotel.
Social problems and injustices will continue as long as tourists turn a blind eye to the local problems. I spoke to several guests at the hotel and they also shared my opinion about the conditions on the streets outside the hotel. We visited Patong as a family and unfortunately it was not a positive experience.
