- Nov 10th, 2012 Johnny and Sebastian get married in the beautifully breathtaking Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Along with 90 of their friends and family, Johnny & Sebastian celebrated their union after 7 years together. Johnny and Sebastian had the privilege of being one of the first gay couples in the state of NY to be legally wed in July of the previous year. Their legal union at City Hall was an impromptu moment instigated by the passing of the same-sex marriage in their home state. It was a memorable and humbling experience to be part of such an historic event. They decided to hold an intimate wedding in Mexico a year later, so that all of their friends and family could bear witness to their new life together.

Johnny, I just recently discovered your channel and love it. Such a long hard road you had with your parents, that's why suicide is so high among young gay people, you helped pave the way for so many others. Aren't you happy you went in that lounge that day and met the beautiful love of your life. Like Sabastian, I LOVE Asian men and always have. I am a dual Canadian and American , an episcopal bishop, who as a missionary priest, served on four out of five continents ( I’ve visited Australia but I served three months in New Zealand). My husband is Cherokee Native American, and our son was born to surrogate in Saigon HCMC, VN.i was educated in Canada at Laval University, and I hold a doctorate in theology from the University of Paris, and a doctorate in pastoral counseling from Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. My husband is a LCSW. I am 75 in November and my husband is 69. We’ve been committed to each other in a religious ceremony since 1976. The math is clear. We celebrated our 44th anniversary last month and begin our 45th year. On our 27th anniversary, in 2003, our vow renewal in Canada included the legality that alluded us until that date. Our son , Wade Norbert Thanh Nguyen Sawyer was born in January of that year. I lived in VN twice, one time decades ago, and again in peace as a missionary. That’s our lives in a nutshell. Our son is a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and we moved there in 2016, when I retired as an episcopal bishop in Ecuador, SA. It is a liberal oasis in a right wing desert. Hahahahaha. After living in several theocracies with military juntas, and not a great love of LGBT families, we understand and we can tolerate about anything.
A glimpse into your lives was heartwarming, as we know how difficult it was to start a family for us as early as the 1980s. Miscarriages and worse, in the days preceding an egg donor and a gestational carrier, the surrogate used her eggs, and all couples were possibly scammed, or were convinced by a homophobic nurse to deny the couple, especially a same sex couple. Ours was a family friend, who tragically died in childbirth. So, I assume we are a “colorful “ family..white, red and yellow.....a rainbow family indeed. COVID has been especially worrisome as I have had a TAVR and TCAR surgeries during the pandemic, at the University Medical School Hospital to save my life.....while I knew that I shared an ICU with COVID patients and all of us were refused visitors. I remember the AIDS epidemic as a priest in HAZMAT suit caring spiritually for the dying, and Ebola in Sub-Saharan Africa in the 1990s.. I joked with my husband that had I not met and married him in the eyes of God 44 years ago, I would’ve been an Anglican monk. We laugh because since March, 2020, with the exception of two surgeries in April and May, we’ve lived in a “monastery”.. ;) ;) .well,,this is an open confession...ask me the time and this old septuagenarian will build you a clock.
