    Great job on the train model. I like the addition of the 2 crew figures....brings it to life. Happy modeling. Bill

    I have the Airfix model kit of this loco too. It's an original late 60's-early 70's model so I'm torn between building it or leaving it as is, on the sprues still. I got a very nice set of cast metal driving wheels and axles with the kit so may try electrification. The part you mentioned about the motorised wagon may just be the ticket! Plenty cd drawer motors that may suit. I suppose I should give it a go, one pin missing from the motion set and the decals are rotted out so some new ones might be in order!
    Thank you for showing this Dapol version. Cheers! Keep Well, sir!

    I’ve worked with a fair few of these, lovely little things, though I’ve never actually tried to make them roll on the supplied chassis, the two I’ve built run on RTR chassis units, one on an Airfix GMR chassis, the other on a heavily modified Triang Jinty chassis, though I’m tempted to get another of these kits and see if I can make it roll, would be fun to see if I can rig together a powered wagon to go behind it, given that was the original intent of these kits

    Love these kits but have you noticed that you have put the number in the wrong place on the bunker? I know the decal is slightly too big for where it needs to go

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the number placement has been pointed out to me before - I went off the picture on the instruction sheet, but i've been told that it shouldn't be where it is. It would appear that Dapol are giving us the wrong information, particularly for those who don't know much about British loco's

    I love your process although I would rather paint all parts before putting them all together but your model looks beautiful

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SneakySteve 333 thanks! Yeah, sometimes it depends on my mood. If you check out some of my other builds, I paint elements of those before assembly, but this kit would definitely have benefited from prior painting

      lam justin thanks for the support! I do skip some parts, but usually it's just repeating a process like gluing or painting. You don't need to see me glue every single piece in place, otherwise it would be a spoiler for when you build the model yourself! XD

    Wow, I have never seen a kit for a train engine before, it looks great. As an older kit you can probably expect a few fit and flash issues, but that aside it looked really good and seemed to go together well too. Many thanks for sharing and have fun,
    Joe

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I know there are a few US and European models made by Revell . . . Not many UK plastic kits though - if you want a kit of a train I think they tend to be mostly metal ones . . .

    Is HO and OO Gauge the same thing? If you mind me asking.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In essence they are - at least they use the same gauge track (16.5mm I believe). The difference is that the scale for HO is 1/87 and OO is 1/76, so if anything, the track gauge is slightly too narrow for OO, but it's something that us Brits just stick with (probably because it's so well established now). HO and OO trains run perfectly well together on the same layouts, the OO stuff might look a little bigger is all

    • @RogueRail
      @RogueRail 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay, Thanks. ; )

    • @sirrathersplendid4825
      @sirrathersplendid4825 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The track spacing is HO (1/87) to be compatible with continental track. The body meanwhile is OO (1/76). Thus HO/OO is a hybrid scale.OO bodies look distinctly larger than the HO vehicles you get on the continent.

    • @jimtaylor294
      @jimtaylor294 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To add to the confusion: many 1:76 kits over the years have been erroneously labeled 1:72.
      There isn't a vast difference in model size between them, but it is noticable.

  • @raven1wing1
    @raven1wing1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Your right about the wheels. I build a battle of Britain class when they was airfix. The wheels ran very loose. The piston system was very similar to this little kit. But all in all the kits are timeless and are great for (like you said) static or on a dioramas.

      @@ModelMinutes if you ever get stuck with dapol's instructions (like I did with a schools class loco) look up here for all your classic or old kits (with missing instructions)
      www.vintage-airfix.com/instructions.php
      They are zip files and are alot clearer to see and understand.

    Im thinking of starting doing plastic kit modeling and I was wondering where you got that green sheet with the white lines on it ?

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LMS Productions it's a self-healing cutting mat in A3 size. I bought mine online, but you can get them in the majority of good art and craft shops. I use it to protect the surfaces I'm working on, so I don't scratch or cover them in paint 😂

    You should have painted the parts first. How do you paint the chassis behind the wheels once the wheels have been fitted?
    By the way, that kit was first introduced by Kitmaster. When Kitmaster went out of business Airfix bought up the moulds, but they only reissed a few of the original Kitmaster kits. Many of the better ones were never reissued.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alan F Brookes thanks for the information! I realised my mistake in not pre-painting the parts during construction, I over came this by spraying the chassis with paint, letting it dry then rotating the wheels slightly to reveal the unpainted chassis then repeating the process

    Is there a way to fit a motor in the locomotive

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GNR studios there's no provision for the inclusion of a motor, but I'm sure with some ingenuity and alteration to the chassis it could be possible. The only problem is that the plastic is quite soft and the components may have warped as it's an old design, so even if a motor was successfully installed I doubt that there would be much success in it running properly on track

    • @jimtaylor294
      @jimtaylor294 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's doable (say those I know from LMRC's), but I've yet to attempt it myself.

    Btw that pastel trick made those wheels look really good.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! Thanks for the comment - the pastels weren't as soft as i'd have liked to be honest, I would have preferred to use them as a dust rather than having to make them wet, but it still created a pleasing effect :D

    I remember building one of these as a kid sheltering from the rain in a caravan on a campsite somewhere in Kent. The kit was purchased from the only shop on the campsite for a couple of shillings and was moulded in a much darker plastic than the later Dapol reissue.
