The beginning portion of this song (aka the version that plays at the start of the game) always fills me with such a sense of sadness and Pity, specifically for mad rat. living most of his life in a cage not having the simple pleasures of eating cheese or playing with other rats, then being abruptly plucked out one day to be brutally torn apart with the only fanfare, or even acknowledgment of, his death being a pathetic, soullessly happy squeaking, almost as if it's a happy celebration his pathetic and depressing existence is coming to an end. No wonder madrat held resentment against the human.
This melody is beautiful and great in building a connection between Mad Rat and the Player. A cheerful sounding infuses us with vital powers to start our journey, so as Rat Goddess giving similar energy to Mad Rat's dying body to achieve his dream. And those squeking sounds during the melody are like protagonist's rat joyful thoughts about him being alive again.
This is the kind of song I could listen to as my lifeless body is dragged out of bed to go to work every morning by the powers of anger and energetic music.
