Option #7: rent a motorcycle. Obviously this requires you to know how to ride (and have a license to prove it), but is my FAVORITE way to travel. I've traveled by car and bicycle, but a motorcycle has most of the advantages of bicycling (being present in the landscape you're exploring, without the TV-screen effect of the windshield) and most of the advantages of a car (physical ease and speed). I visited Iceland once 30 years ago: seeing Reykjavík on foot, flying to Akureyri and back, and doing both Golden Circle and Mývatn bus excursions. But I'm coming back, and this time I'm renting a motorcycle.
Can I enjoy south Iceland sightseeing by public bus and is there any option of city card for public transport in south iceland like Reykjavik? Please help as I really want to visit Iceland
Hey, Jeannie! Love your videos. All of them have been ridiculously helpful. Just wondering if you had any general parking advice for people who are driving a rental car in Iceland. (Ie. Garages V.S. Street Parking, Affordable Overnight Options, Rules tourists might not be aware of, etc) Thanks again for all your help!
I realllllly want to rent a car and drive.. However, I am coming in January and I am scared of the road conditions. I am a solo female traveler with minimal winter driving experience. HELP!!!!!
My wife and I look forward to pick up hitch hikers when we travel in Iceland. We often will go out of our way to take them to where they want to go and then enjoy them and the trip. Pick up hitch hikers who were working at the guest house we were staying at. Egilsstadir and they directed us to the place they waned to go. Started out on pave road 92 (which I think is been renamed 1. My wife and I just went from Egilsstadir to Honf. Back to story. We turned on to a dirt road 953. Ok so far. Then it started up and up and up over a pass. We were thinking how are they ever going to get back. No one else on the road over a moutain pass. But as the pot holes got more and more we crested the pass and what a view. When we got to the end there was a town and a place to eat. Datatngl. There was going to be an afternoon lunch and as we left them there we passed cars comming for lunch there. Who would have known what a wonderful place this is to visit. So you never know where you will end up at the begging of the day if you just take a chance. Thank you for all your work Linda and Ben Burgess
Renting a car on my upcoming trip to Iceland - concerned about paying at unmanned service stations. Do you know if unmanned N1 stations can accept Apple Pay? Thank you for your informative videos!
Hmmmm I do have a question. So, if our flight into Reykjavik arrives late and we miss our tour bus (the bus will arrive at our hotel in Hella in the afternoon) what is the best way to get us to the hotel in Hella? Just in case ;) I guess we could pay with a kidney lol!! Thanks.
Thank you so much for the travel tips! Your video was very helpful. You answered so many questions that I had. Do you have any tips or recommendations on hikes and best modes of transportation to get there? From downtown Reykjavik. So far we are thinking of a tour, and renting a vehicle for a day to do a hike. Our trip is in May :) .
Thankfully there are alternatives to a car. I get that it is great, but when you don't have a drivers license, it's difficult :(
Feel the same way! I may shorten my trip because of that
Please can I ask for more information about the hop on hop off option mentioned?
