I have been watching your videos for a long time and you are amazing. After watching and learning and researching prong collars I finally decided to give one a try to help with my dogs random reactivity. The handling I learned from you paired with the collar has been a game changer. She finally understands bc I’m finally able to successfully communicate with her. Our relationship has improved so much, and her behavior is better on and off leash. She’s more relaxed and calm, she’s happier on walks, and I finally have confidence while walking her. Yesterday on our walk she saw a dog she has a history with being aggressive and reactive towards. She looked at the dog, wagged her tail, didn’t lunge or bark like the normally does, and before she could even build I was able to tell her “this way” and she immediately followed me without any leash pressure or correction at all. Last time we encountered this dog, she was in such a frenzy with barking and growling that she nipped me on the leg as I tried to redirect her. That was the moment I knew we had to do something different bc I was worried about that happening again and didn’t want to not be able to walk her. A week ago we got a herm sprenger and I really wish we had gotten it sooner. Thank you Tom ❤️

That’s awesome. I hate that people refuse to educate or even hear the other side and just scream at u saying I’m abusing my dog. Sometimes it’s the only thing that does help change behavior and give a good life to a dog.

You have said Soo many comments that are Key to all of this success …First and Foremost “ Communication” !!! It is Litteraly the KEY to master all issues with dogs! Secondly.. You mentioned that “ Your” confidence went up, and ever since she’s been much more relaxed around you,… this is also another Important factor! You are now “leader” quality and therefore is Looking at You for clear and consistant direction which u are now giving if she is responding the way she is! People don’t realise juuuust how many mixed signals they give their dogs and then wonder Why they have issues w this or that etc etc .. ! Dogs Need Direction and they also “Seek” it! I always say “ You want to Teach a dog what u “ Want” out of it as opposed to what u “Don’t” want … cuz dogs don’t “learn” from Negativity! When they receive Positive feedback, you can be sure they are gonna want to repeat the same behaviour ! It’s up to us to teach them exactly “what” that behaviour is! I always say it takes about 3 days for a dog to Learn a new command and “get” it… The first day you show them and practice .. second day you go over what u learned the day before.. and day three u repeat to ensure the dog got it ! Keep up the good work !

To those of y'all saying Tom needs his own TV show - no he doesn't. I've worked in the TV industry for the last 7 years and a TV deal [unless it's a miracle] would give Tom significantly less control over his style, content and audience interaction. Broadcast media is not cut out for personal touches, authorship and audience curation. Tom has worked really hard at creating this thing we all love so much and I'd hate to see a TV executive or broadcaster try to tell him how to do it. He has autonomy and ownership on TH-cam [although it's not a perfect platform] and we in a way have access to him. Keep being you dude.

And when we approach every situation when the dog is aggressive with the attitude and intent that WE ARE IN CHARGE and send that feeling to the dog of "Good dog, take a break, I've got this and you can relax", it allows the dog to be more comfortable and happy with its place in the pack. This is OUR world. They don't understand it completely and they KNOW they don't have the skills to run the show. (Unless the dog has been successfully feral for some time, lol!, and then they can have a bit of a cocktail "I don't need you to tell me what to do...I do what I want...and I GOT this". I had one of those and I just made it clear that was fine but I was still boss, so take a break....this is MY problem to deal with. Lol

10:20:- EXCELLENT use of Body blocking while Directing in an opposite direction !! For those wondering what I mean by that, if u pause at 10:20, you’ll notice that as the owner is turning around. He is also positioned in a way that allows his entire body to “block” so-to-speak, the dog’s view and that “thing” that he’s focused on, all the while redirecting him at the same time , which is keeping the dog calm as he has to focus on walking alongside his owner as opposed to the distraction! ❤

Who else watches these videos despite not having a dog?
I try to learn more about dog & human behaviour after being afraid of dogs for a while. When I was 6 years old, a neighboor set his huge dog on me, laughing all the way while the dog was chasing me down the street. I managed to climb up a wooden plant stand that was 3 meters high and the dog "only" caught and bit my shoe as I was pulling myself up there. I was fearing for my life in this moment and after this traumatic incident it took me years to regain trust towards most dogs and their owners.
It's comforting to see you care so much about working out the issues of these families makes me hopeful that most owners want to be responsible.

When he relates this training to horses, it makes so much sense to me. Even changing directions, doing a 180 at the walk to get the dog to focus on you, is exactly what we call roll backs with horses. Thank you!

What an incredibly valuable video. So many great tips, distinctions, nuances. Huge thanks!
Really like the perspective...engagement and attention vs avoidance. So appreciate the understanding that it is our responsibility to advocate for our pets.
What a great approach. You are amazing. Again, thank you!

I absolutely love watching your videos Tom. You do such amazing work helping these dogs out 😌 I don't own a dog, but I tell people about your work and to watch you. There is a big change is Wrigley. Hopefully his owners keep up with the new training techniques. "Good boy".. and "good man" made me smile so much.. Well done and keep up your amazing work!! Best wishes, from Co Dublin Ireland ☘️🙂🇮🇪

Thank you and everyone involved, for all of these videos and lessons. The kind teachings, the straightforward advice, the e-collar. I've been watching stricter trainers and been feeling so...bad...like I'm getting scolded but also like I need to be more strict on my dog instead of more engaging and more confident and more loving and understanding. You remember that they are family to us and it's like you're helping a parent and teenager understand each other. Since dogs can smell better than us, and sense feelings - I just know they smell and sense a huge whiff of RELIEF and SAFETY in that workplace of yours haha I After watching so many videos, I finally feel ready to start putting in work for my boy.

7:53:- I’d like for everyone to pay attention to the complete Shift of Behaviour in Wrigley and how he is now actively “seeking” “direction” from Tom as opposed to fearing him! He’s learning that he’s doing “Something” good cuz he’s beeing rewarded… and trying to learn More of what “that” is! He is Fully Engaged and giving his full attention! It took him less than 5 mins to get that dog’s attention! Thiiis is WHY I absolutely Looooove what I do!!! ❤❤❤

This is amazing! I have an Australian shepherd that reacts the same way to people and we have the same story of training. This gives me hope and reassurance that I can use an e collar without hurting him

I wish I would have watched these videos when I had our dog Indy. He was attacked by a neighborhood dog a couple times and became very leash reactive. We did some training with him , but it was more positive only and tried redirecting but with minimal corrections and only on a front no pull harness. If i had used a prong or e collar in think it would have been what he needed. He loved for 12 yrs this way, was a sweetheart with us and our other dog. But we were always fearful on walks or at campgrounds. He passed away last year and we have a new Aussie that we are training with a balanced method including a HS prong and just got A 280C that I am introducing with the low level conditioning. Keep the videos coming!

I LOOOVE how you show all the questions you ask during the intake as this is quite possibly one of the most Important steps when working with a client and their dog and it’s Never really shown to this extent !
These questions Give me Insight into the dog’s life.. past life.. current lifestyle… the owner’s life.. how many ppl live in the home.. how many animals live in the home.. a timeline of when the issues at hand started.. is there any trauma involved … has the dog been moved from home to home or always been in the same home .. does the dog come from a shelter where it’s history is unknown.. how experienced are the owners with dogs.. what have they already done to try to work on the issues.. etc etc etc !
The More Information I get, the Better I can help them and more importantly, their dog! ❤
