  • Drake Bay and the Osa Peninsula features some of the most undisturbed nature of Costa Rica. Here you can find Corcovado National Park, the biggest national park in Costa Rica, and Isla del Caño with its excellent reefs.
Drake Bay was named after Sir Francis Drake, and there are rumours that he buried a treasure somewhere in Drake Bay. Even if you don't find any pirate treasures, this is still a magnificent place to visit, featuring a pleasant little town, wonderful beaches, and undisturbed lowland rainforests.
Corcovado National Park features lots of animal and plant life. You can find the four different types of Costa Rican monkeys here, as well as jaguars and ozelots, and the tapir - the biggest land animal in Costa Rica. In this video I show you what you can find in the national park and tell you interesting anecdotes - and of some of the dangers.
A trip to Isla del Caño is perfect for anyone with an interest in diving or snorkeling. The coral reefs there are some of the best in Costa Rica, and the marine life is abundant. Sharks, turtles, rays, and tons of fish of various species can be found. You may also see whales on the way there.
In this video I also show you the town of Drake Bay itself, and talk about how to get to the Osa Peninsula from the town of Sierpe. Make sure you take the boat from Sierpe dock through mangrove rivers to get to Drake Bay - it's a whole experience by itself.

Thanks for this info! When was this filmed? Do you still need to drive through some water? I read that they built new bridges?

This was filmed early January, and I think some parts of the road are better than before - but (as you can see in some of the clips) certain areas are still pretty rough to drive through. A couple of people went by car and said that a 4WD was absolutely recommended.

Excellent video! Informative, to the point and well made. I’m heading to drake bay in December and I was looking at the pirate cove! It looks beautiful

Maybe like 25% of the time. It rained more up in Arenal and Monteverde, so I was really happy with more sun in Drake Bay! And thank you :D

I wanted to see Corcovado but planning to stay at drake Bay town or Poor man's paradise hotel.... Can you hike to Corcovado NP without a guide? Are they strict on checking on it without a guide. Trying to save money. Which place did you stay.?

Hmmm... I think they are pretty strict on checking that you only go with a guide actually. But staying in town might be a good idea! That should be cheaper than staying at Pirate Cove like I did.
