Idk how many other players have done this but Gary Sheffield was traded for multiple HOFers. SD -> FLA for Trevor Hoffman, and then FLA -> LAD for Mike Piazza.
Great note! Billy Southworth is the best name I could think of here, who made the Hall himself as a manager. Southworth was traded in January 1921 for Rabbit Maranville, then again in November 1923 for Dave Bancroft (and also HOF manager Casey Stengel, himself in two trades for eventual HOFers though not both playing days, much like Burleigh Grimes).
Played on the Cardinals with Frankie Frisch to win a pennant in 1928. I wish it was deeper than that but it isn’t. Cooperstown is loaded with atypical inductees around this era. The common thread is Frisch.
The only reason I got Octavio Dotel is because he was part of a core memory at the old Yankee stadium. Somehow my parents got us into the seats behind homeplate in a blowout, and he was pitching the ninth inning. I remember yelling something like "Here we go, Dotel!!!" on the last pitch of the game. He's also one of my go-to's on immaculate grid, so I knew he had played on a bunch of different teams. Great vid, and helped take me back to a great game I went to as a ten year old.
I played MLB 11 the Show too much so I knew Dotel immediately. He and Arthur Rhodes used to be the only 80s overall players left when everyone else was in the low 70s during franchise fantasy drafts
ARTHUR RHODES!! That was the one I was trying to remember. I was heavy on MLB 10 The Show and I was rotating thru all those old guy relievers in my mind… Darren Oliver, LaTroy Hawkins, Tom Gordon,…. Eventually I got to Dotel. Missed J.A. Tho :(
Jim’s trivia question thought process reminded me of when-in his 589th game of his MLB career-the Rays gave Sergio Romo his first MLB start as a pitcher. Romo started games in back to back days, including 4 starts in the span of 8 days. Then 2 games after his 4th start, he got his 1st save of the season for us. Only to start the next game he appeared in as well. He led the Rays in saves that year. Fun time to be a Rays fan when we started the ‘opener’ trend again.
Knew Dotel because of the NYM - HOU trade for Mike Hampton. That trade indirectly netted the Mets David Wright as they drafted him with the comp pick for Hampton
I got Hard so fast. That was my choice for closer in MVP Baseball 2005. He was young (in that game) and I always left closer to later in Franchise Draft mode.
My dad and I had a joke about Dotel during his White Sox time that every time he came in, we’d lose. The numbers looked good but he seemed like he had negative clutch factor when we watched.
You know what might be a cool game? The Wiki Game but using Baseball-Reference by giving two contestants two random players to see who can get to the designated target player the fastest.
Definitely seems like there's a funny age cut-off with Dotel. I had the same reaction as Jimmy - it seemed relatively easy. I think it's because he's sort of unique in being relatively dominant for many different teams...yet only infrequently making it to the postseason. Unusual for relievers who are traded so much. Good on Max for nailing two older journeymen relievers in a row!
Going through these Dotel is probably my favorite pull I've gotten immediately. All I needed was "Astros reliever in the early 2000's who was an absolute machine but didn't close cause they had Wagner. Then they let Wagner go cause they figured Dotel could close, and Lidge emerged and took the job.
I definitely could not have pulled JA Happ as a 20 game winner. But as a relatively older gent, I did know about Sheffield's Brewers years. If memory serves, on his Topps rookie card he was sporting bling of his initials on his teeth. Theme suggestion: MLB Dads one week, MLB sons the next
That's cool Shelfy said kyle Kendrick. I played baseball with his little brother and used to serve his dad was one of the regulars at the bar I used to work
I got Octavio Dotel frame 1 because he’s the only pitcher who pitched for that long with no awards, as a reliever but not a closer and for that many different teams
Shout out foolish for calling out Octavio Dotel as a strikeout artist in a video and now hes locked into my memory. Had to be one if Oliver Perez, Odalis Perez, and Dotel.
I always look at the teams first, not even the years just the teams. So I got J.A. Happ and Octavio Dotel instantly but had to look at the stats for Gary Sheffield. Easy was the hardest for me 😂
The only one I got out all of them was Hard. The only reason. I remember him on the Rockies and then because I have watched the 2011 World Series game 6 several times and I remember him being on that team.
octavio dotel and edwin jackson are the players who played for the two most amount of years and they both won their only world series with the cards in 2011.
*9:13* You forgot to add that the Yankees lost to Tigers in the ALCS. The Tigers went on to LOSE in the World Series. It's too bad Max, you can't even lose to the winners!!
Yup same here. I saw him play in Milwaukee during his last year with the Mets and my dad told my brothers and I to boo him. The rest of the crowd was the same way. We don’t like Gary Sheffield up here lol
@@zachreacts5508 he accused the organization and the whole fan base of Milwaukee of being racist because Bill Speier was the opening day SS and not him…because he sucked. Good job on Max for overcoming the Nick Johnson incident to climb back into first. I got the three RefGuess players pretty easily (2011 World Series helped me get Dotel) but I blanked on Jesse Chavez.
Baseball Reference only shows Chavez being traded 9 times 2006 Rangers -> Pirates 2009 Pirates -> Rays 2009 Rays -> Braves 2010 Braves -> Royals 2015 Athletics -> Blue Jays 2016 Blue Jays -> Dodgers 2018 Rangers -> Cubs 2022 Cubs -> Braves 2022 Braves -> Angels Does his purchase from the Blue Jays to the Athletics in 2012 count as a trade?
How could anyone forget Sheffield as a Brewer? He is a legend for purposely making errors and hitting a buck seventy-five after we released Dave Parker.
I didn't get hard right but I got Jesse Chavez and almost immediately actually because my Braves friend and I talked about him the other day 😂 he does good for them they trade he sucks for the other team they release him repeat the cycle 😂😂😂
Idk how many other players have done this but Gary Sheffield was traded for multiple HOFers. SD -> FLA for Trevor Hoffman, and then FLA -> LAD for Mike Piazza.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who spent an obscene amount of time doing fantasy drafts in 11 the Show 😅😂
You guys should do a ref guess where you leave out a players best season.
Silhouette gave it away in the bonus round - wouldn’t have guessed Jesse Chavez if it wasn’t in the screen.
Glad I wasn’t the only one 😂
dude i saw the tiktok today about him only being good for the Braves lol
Love how Joez always says it's not a player and then realizes it is that player
Nailed the easy and hard, missed the medium. Did think hard guy had more saves.
That’s what threw me off initially, but then I counted the teams.
We love Uncle Jesse in ATL!
I remember a particular Padres batting practice at Busch Stadium in 1992 where Sheffield and Fred Mcgriff put on an absolute show.
G-Sheff... dude had such a violent swing... loved it when he came to the Yankees

Had always believed Chavez was the most traded player because his name randomly comes up in TH-cam shorts, didn't realize it was 10 TIMES!
Knew Dotel because of the NYM - HOU trade for Mike Hampton. That trade indirectly netted the Mets David Wright as they drafted him with the comp pick for Hampton
Just learned today Sheff was a brewer. I randomly got that Dotel pull really proud of myself. My first perfect ep of the season
I know Sheffield played for a few teams but always think of him as a Marlin and Yankee. So any other team throws me off.
This became a lot easier to understand when I realized they weren't all having a conversation with each other. LOL. Brought to you by Kushy Dreams.
He was very clutch on the Cardinals World Series run tho
Humble brag, I got Jesse Chavez immediately. Also Gary Sheffield almost immediately, but medium and hard were out of my range.
Keep the RefGuess vids comingggggg!
totally stumped on Happ; but I thiink it took less than five seconds combined to confirm Doc's nephew and one of the guys traded for mike hampton
You know what might be a cool game? The Wiki Game but using Baseball-Reference by giving two contestants two random players to see who can get to the designated target player the fastest.
They’ve done that before but would be happy to see it come back

Dotel was legit for the Astros. That 7, 8, 9 reliever gauntlet of Lidge, Dotel, and Wagner was lethal
That's cool Shelfy said kyle Kendrick. I played baseball with his little brother and used to serve his dad was one of the regulars at the bar I used to work
As a Braves fan I got Jesse Chavez right off the bat lol. Love that guy
Interesting note about Dotel, he was the opening day starter for the astros when Enron Field opened in 2000.
You really should include the reactions of the two guys when who didn’t know it was Jesse Chavez at the end. Suckers!!! ❤
Dotel being on 2 straight teams that made the WS in the early 2010s really helped for “recent” memory purposes
Figured the trivia round was Jesse Chavez, did do a br check to make sure.
I got Octavio Dotel frame 1 because he’s the only pitcher who pitched for that long with no awards, as a reliever but not a closer and for that many different teams

One of the better Hard ones. I got because of HOU/OAK but I would've guessed his last year was 2017 or 2018.
Damn, was thinking Tyler Clippard for the last one, but he was only traded 6 times
come on Jake! Rickie Weeks had a bat waggle as well
surprised some guys didnt get immaculate grid legend Dotel. either that or im the weird one for not getting Happ but like instantly getting Dotel. 🤔
I missed Happ but got Dotel too
I love the trivia ⚾
JA Happ went to my high school, one of the easiest ones for me. He was a freshman when I was a senior.
The only one I got out all of them was Hard. The only reason. I remember him on the Rockies and then because I have watched the 2011 World Series game 6 several times and I remember him being on that team.
octavio dotel and edwin jackson are the players who played for the two most amount of years and they both won their only world series with the cards in 2011.
the thing that helped me differentiate was the big time in houston at the beginning for dotel.
We need a position players who have pitched RefGuess
God Dotel took me on a journey. Anybody else go through a mental rolodex of MLB Showdown cards when they think about early 2000s players?
Oof I get that hard thanks to the rage I felt getting Kyle Davies back for a good reliever on an awful Royals team
Joaquin Benoit in my head on hard and could not get my mind off of it.
Jesse Chavez was my first thought but blanked on Dotel
I got none of the three ref guesses correct but got the trivia question right immediately 😅
I was impressed by Joez getting Dotel until I heard they literally brought him up in a recent video
absolutely furious at myself I didn’t get Happ. got everyone self within 2-3 seconds and completely spaced on him
Jake and BBD missing Dotel was a remarkable twist
I only counted 9 trades that Chavez was a part of. I could be wrong. My eyes kept getting pretty bleary going down his transaction list.
*9:13* You forgot to add that the Yankees lost to Tigers in the ALCS. The Tigers went on to LOSE in the World Series. It's too bad Max, you can't even lose to the winners!!
Being a Pirates fan, I blurted out Octavio Dotel so quickly
I probably use sheffield on the grid more than any other player
Another episode where Jolly gives Joez and only Joez help.
Naw he did his usual Jimmy mentions guys name while talking it out and gives it to him
I killed it this ep!
Dotel, immaculate grid legend
Got the trivia instantly but almost didn’t get Sheffield
I suck at this game, I couldn't remember Happ for the life of me, but I got Dotel in less than a second.
Only reason I got Octavio Dotel was because I would always trade for him in MVP baseball 04.
I knew Sheff instantly being a brewers fan. He was a terrible SS and a bad person and that’s why he got moved 👍

Yes it is just being traded for cash only
I… didn’t get Gary Sheffield, but got both Dotel AND Jesse Chavez!!! HOW
2:46 not true, Rickie Weeks also did this, particularly earlier in his career
Being here 31 seconds after it’s posted is wild
The only reason I got hard with Jolly Olive because he is an Immaculate Grid God. 😂
Knew it was Dotel cause he holds the record for most teamsss
Well there was another guy that did a crazy bat wiggle. But he wasn’t that good. MIKE AVILES.
How did I get the trivia question but miss medium and hard? lol
lets go joez lets go joez
3/3 and the bonus. Let’s go
wasn't Jesse Orsco on 10+ different teams?
I was so sure that Hard was Kyle Farnsworth
The resemblance in careers is uncanny

Love seeing the kippah on Max. Representation matters! ✡️
god himself came down and whispered Jesse Chavez into my ear
Perfect score! Let’s go
I got them all. Dotel was the easiest for me.
Went straight to DRob too
Wow, I can't believe I got Dotel
I bet Tampa is in this video
Max not giving Dalton some love for filling in for him and doing well is kinda disappointing
Octavio Dotel aka Heartbreak Dotel
Bonus is all I could get
