    The one moment in the film that actually moved me was Mary's flashback to comforting young Jesus. The helplessness she must feel seeing the abuse of her son, and not being able to do anything about it. Maybe it's corny, but it stirred empathy in me.

    I think South Park spread across that message very well, AND even Critic praised them for it: "If you wanna be Christian, that's cool, but you should follow what Jesus taught, not how he died"
    I couldn't agree more. If you follow some religion and focus only what harm was done to it in some way, then you don't deserve that faith. That's like becoming Jewish just so that you can shame people for the Holocaust.

    I heard a story about this movie from a friend of mine. He and his family were vacationing in St. John over Easter and decided to watch this movie. Seems like a strange way to spend your Caribbean vacation, but who am I to judge? Anyway, since they were on vacation, they were also drinking a lot, and he was so smashed he couldn't follow the movie at all. He kept asking his family members, "Which one's Jesus?" in a slurred voice. Apparently, his family found this hilarious.

    The only spiritual uplifting I got from this film is the fact that Crucifixion was probably lot more brutal than taught in Sunday schools. .

    • @geoffreysorkin5774
      @geoffreysorkin5774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Romans didn't actually crucify people like that. They would take a long board, tie it to the victim's wrists with rope, put the victim on top of a permanent pole and leave them there to suffocate to death (real crosses are capital Ts not lower case ts. Driving a nail through someone's wrist or ankle would make them die quickly. The real Romans wanted the victim to slowly asphyxiate over several hours while everyone else watched. That is real torture, not whipping someone for a few minutes and killing them via exsanguination.
      Also, the entire Passion is so blatantly fictional that any person who knows dick about Jewish traditions or history would laugh at the thought of it being real. The Romans would never release a murderer and would never do anything the Jewish leaders asked them to do. The Passion is a Passover story which substitutes two goats with two humans. Pilate literally lost his post because he was killing too many Jews (Rome was pissed that he was killing off his work force out of pure antisemitism.

      Actor Jim Caviezel has been struck by lightning while playing Jesus in Mel Gibson's controversial film The Passion Of Christ. I don't even get it. I don't even see the story of Jesus dying for our sins here, or at least, not a whole lot of it. The movie focuses so much more on Jesus' death scene than it does on anything else that I feel that it was solely made just for that one purpose. To show us that Jesus wasn't just whipped a few times, nailed to a cross and died, coming back 3 days later to save us. Now, to be fair, if that was the movie's sole intention from the start, then I respect that. But if this movie was trying to retell the whole story and spread the good news as to why Jesus died for our sins, I don't think that I could recommend it to a lot of people.

    The Passion of the Christ had one job, to make everyone feel sorry for Jesus as passionately Christians do. While I think it succeeded at that job, it sacrificed it's integrity as a movie to do it. If you're not a Christian, there's very little chance that you're going to get anything from this movie. I'm a Christian and I've seen people get plenty of spiritual gain from this. However, I've also seen films like the Prince of Egypt which can capture an audience yet still uphold the spiritual value the original story told.

    My mom was a pretty religious person though not very pushy about it. She bought this movie to see it out of curiosity because of her faith. She got as far as where the Roman soldiers keep whipping Jesus and she started cracking up. Why? Because the soldiers were acting so cartoonish they reminded her of the old WWF wrestling team The Bushwackers. At some point shortly thereafter the tape got stuck in the vcr, and my mom said that was kind of a sign from God that this was not a film to be taken seriously

      Not everyone is going to have your exact same mindset. Not everyone follows God the same way or feels about certain things addressing Jesus the same way. The Bible was written thousands of years ago, could be translated very wrong, and it's incredibly vague on top of that. Everyone interprets it differently.. This is a movie. Not the Holy book itself. It's supposed to strike differently with everyone. It's supposed to be subjective. That's how media and opinions work.

You want respect and demand to be respected for your opinions, but you like to poke fun at our savior and what He died for by calling it a fetish film? The movie was suppose to impact you and see what He died for and how He died. There's many movies about Jesus, but none showed His death. You're more welcome to believe what you want, but just know I have a right to say something too. I like how you're on your high horse demanding my believes are wrong or invalid. I stand up for my believes, you stand for nothing, but what the MAJORITY feels. Oh, and because it hurts "others" feelings....I am going to call it out when I see it. Even though the message of the film could have been better I cannot deny that the cinematography was stunning and the actors were fantastic.

    • @GabrielRezende837
      @GabrielRezende837 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The Gospels never detailed much of how badly Jesus was beaten, most of these other violent descriptions come from non-canonical sources. To be honest, I highly doubt any man could survive the scourging scene alone, there's a reason why romans limited the amount of lashes one could deliver with the Cat O' Nine Tails whip to about 12. That whip rips the flesh of the prisoner to shreds and too many lashes could kill them, yet Jesus in this movie took way more than 12 lashes, lost more blood than the human body could have, and considering how much he was scourged his body was supposed to look way worse than that.
      The Passion isn't realistic nor is it historically accurate at all, also the demonized depiciton of the romans as violent, barbarian brutes who had this vindictive spirit towards Jesus and can't stop beating him unless forced by their commander is largely exaggerated. The Bible portrays roman soldiers and centurions in a much more positive light, most of them being merciful and just, one even asked Jesus to heal his servant. Surprisingly, very few mentions of sadistic brutality or injustice on their part are found on the scriptures.

      Nobody could know for sure, but Jesus was beaten pretty badly, and then they put a crown of thorns on his head. As far as the Romans they could be barbaric, but they were no more than others at the time. That being said crucifixions were quite torturous, so anybody that went through one suffered quite a bit.

      apo kos Slaves who were in service long enough would definitely come to learn some form of Latin, likely vulgar, especially if they were servants in a household. Greek was spoken by the elites in the empire similarly to how French was spoken at court by aristocrats all across Europe in Medieval times.

    At 16:22 thru 16:26 are two of the stronger VFX shots of the Passion. They took aprox. 2 weeks to make (involved some specialized CGI art work, flail animation, and compositing). And yes, I was part of the team that created those. The curtain tearing sequence was mostly done by Pam K. Vick. Ted Rae directed the FX work.

    I ran through the comments, and all the salty Christians who think Doug and Brad are haters, that their jokes are "inaccuracies," and that one guy who thinks they should be defending this movie... Yeah, I gotta laugh. The Passion isn't exactly a show that's loyal to the source material, beyond it's ulterior motives, and Gibson's version isn't exactly a shining example of it, beyond using the languages. When I saw this movie, I absolutely couldn't stop laughing at the cherry picking of the bible, and the numerous historical inaccuracies. And while I'm hardly that well-versed in the bible, I don't remember things like the demon spawn children, or Satan watching Jesus' torture. Is that something the Catholics added in, did I read the wrong version, or did the Passion add Satan in for image- I don't remember Satan in the version I saw, did they omit it, or did Gibson add it in?!
