Little difficult to call you Auntie Tay since I am old enough to be your Grandmother, but never the less you are teaching this old dog how to use her new Explore One which hubby bought for my 70th birthday. Thank you for explaining each technique so well at least I can understand what to do. :) :)

So what have we learned today ...
    1. Instead of putting water on the shirt, spray it with one part vinegar/two parts water to neutralize the bleach and it will lock the color at that shade. It will also keep the bleach from eating into the shirt material and weakening it.
    2. Be sure to put a barrier INSIDE the shirt to prevent the bleach from bleeding through to the back of the shirt.
    3. The best method of getting to the color you want is to spray the bleach, wait a minute, then dab it. And repeat until the color is reached.

Tried this technique yesterday and had the worst time getting the Freezer paper off my mat!!!! It was a smaller stencil. Might try something larger as I LOVE how yours turned out!! Was hoping something like contact would help.

You can use the htv tape that comes off off of the vinyl put it on the freezer paper after weeding what you don’t want on the shirt that way you can pull up the stencil with everything in place

What type of paint did you use for the splatter paint technique? BTW, I especially loved the skull shirt.

  • @Sizzlesaur

If you fill your sink with cold water, after you see your shirt has reached your desired color and doing only 1 layer, just dunk the whole shirt in the water. This will stop the chemical reaction with the bleach, and the freezer paper will just fall off. I take my shirt rinse it off a bit and ring out the shirt. At that point I just dry the shirt in the dryer and it looks crisp and clean. If you do not stop the chemical reaction, the bleach has a much greater chance of bleeding.
Another tip: This also works in reverse. Heat speeds up the chemical reaction, but depending on how you do it it could get very messy for your art. If you are using an iron to speed up the color in one area, then you move it to another point, the bleach that touched the iron could bleach other areas.
I use 2 mists of bleach water, with a generous amount of bleach and a heat gun to speed up the chemical reaction. once I am happy with the color, I dunk the shirt and after it dries it will look super crisp and clean.
    Have fun!

A most effective way is to stick your transfer tape to the carpet of your house, or on the clothes you are currently wearing or anything that will help weaken the tackiness of your Tape and then try applying it to your projects again. Im 100% sure you'll be pleased with your results :). Hope I explained it clear enough for you :)

Really impressed! The bleach will probably have no effect on synthetics (test discretely.) The dye is pigmented for synthetics. Start with a cotton shirt / or 50:50 blend. Do a little research to see what's going on. You might be stuck using a paint spray / splatter technique. Not quite the same coolest-possible-ever effect.

I take my shirt outside spray with bleach and it didn't turn colors in the middle of my shirt at all. Now I used the Athletics soft performance tee brand shirt from Walmart. I am so disappointed. Couldn't wait to see it and I was like ummmm oh no what went wrong! Do you think It was the shirt I bought?

Lil' Gellys It could possibly be that it wasnt 100% cotton or 50/50 blend. Synthetics do not bleach so easily, if they even bleach at all.

Right, then. If it doesn't work, the dye is pigmented - for synthetics. Start with a cotton shirt / or 50:50 blend. Do a little research to see what's going on. You might be stuck using a paint spray / splatter technique.

    • @kristenkaiser9635
      @kristenkaiser9635 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I had this same problem with a 60/40 cotton/poly shirt, if you hit it with the iron for a few seconds the bleach will start to work. You end up with a more distressed look but still pretty awesome. You can use the iron technique with 100% cotton and it will lighten the bleach even more.

Gotta dilute the bleach with water, otherwise straight bleach can eat through your material!
