Found this channel earlier this week. Fished my first native/wild class A stream here in east PA this morning and did not disappoint. Keep up the great content!!
Really looking to get back into fly fishing more this year after really getting back into it last fall fishing for salmon so been looking into all the stream I can find an this is gonna help thanks. Also great videos keep it up maybe I'll see you out there some day
Thanks Mike, appreciate the content, as always. I just got into the sport last year and am crazy hooked (no pun intended). Your videos are amazing and I've learned a ton from your channel, thank you so much! I downloaded the trout routes app and have been playing with it, really cool app! Any specific links or tutorials you could share? A large concern I have is 1) locating good streams 2) finding my way back out of wilderness, had a couple dicey moments this year. I have a 2nd home up in Sullivan County PA backing up against state game land and there are a lot of areas to explore. I'm just not confident with it yet. I find myself going back to the more well-known, easy access areas. You're the man Mike, keep at it!
Colin, thanks for the nice comment. Trout Routes is a great place to start. The PA state fishing map on the Fish and Boat website is a great place to start too. pfbc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=65a89f6592234019bdc5f095eaf5c6ac In regards to locating good streams, that will happen one of two ways, word of mouth, or simply getting out and exploring. For obvious reasons people will be tight lipped about great spots. I can tell you that if you have a place up in Sullivan, most of the small tributaries that feed the larger rivers have wild fish in them, some more than others. I'd also recommend you know your physical limits and study maps before doing any hiking into a wild area. I always have a plan to get in and out, have a GPS tool with me, let someone have coordinates of where I'm accessing, and always have basic survival gear and food/water. Be safe and have fun!
Wow! Sounds like a fantastic app. I hope they cover Utah, I’m all over it if they do. Yeah, I have a number of hand written journals I’ve been using for years and this tool will make things a lot easier. Thanks for the informative video.
What do they do with the information on the back end though? What do they do with the things you store? If you don't know that is totally understandable. I always get skeptical when things like this come out because of future fishing being hindered. Thanks for all your videos man! Love the content.
Hi Mike, user information sits on a secure database and collects dust, essentially. Our user agreement is pretty clear that we will never disclose any personal information to anyone for any reason. Thats not what we're about, our focus is on good maps 🤙
Iv been playing with it and bought the pro, two things I really don’t like the the PA site does have is that trout routes does not tell you what trout are in a given stream. And if you are zoomed in just scrolling around you can’t see the stream names like you can on most mapping software. I still find myself back and fourth like you said and with out service it gets dicy especially when plan A, B and C fell apart!! Lol I have to experiment with the downloading the sections of maps. Can’t wait for the updates..
@@WoolyBugged Hey Scott, Zach Pope with TroutRoutes here. Our thought with the stream names is that you could just tap the stream to get the name, but I see the value on having it visible without having to tap. I'll add stream names with high zoom levels, easy change and that makes sense.
Brent, not yet but new states are in the works. Compiling data for the maps requires a lot of work, but stay tuned. I'd recommend following TroutRoutes on social media so you see the latest updates.
Jeff, I'd recommend you follow TroutRoutes on Instagram or Facebook to stay up-to-date on when they'll release the next state updates on their app. There is a lot of new data coming over the next 12 months.
Apps are not applicable to my way of life. Apparently everyone needs them to make their lives easier. I do applaud your channel and appreciate it greatly. H app y fishing to you.....
Oh Bummer! Just downloaded the app - I live in Vermont, and VT isn’t covered in the Regions. Guess I’ll have to Deloot the app… (ahahahaha… just funnin’ witcha Mike - LOVE the videos!!)
This app only has 7 states in it ! It is also very difficult to navigate . I just canceled my subscription! Not worth 39.99 a year ! How much do you get for endorsing it ?
Yo. We actually have 23 states now, you may have a fairly old version? We've also improved the overall usability over the last 12 months, so hopefully you can check out the latest and see if its better for you!

Awesome Nathaniel, glad you were able to get out and explore!
Thanks for the info, I’m glad it doesn’t get shared on social media.
I would not promote an app that did.

Thanks Bob, ya there are a lot of tools that can make what some of us have always done and make it a lot easier. Thanks for watching.
I too am curious on the timeline for NY, NJ and CT. Thanks
Adam, like I recommended to Jeff above, I'd follow TroutRoutes on social to see their state release schedule for the app.
I'm looking forward to NY too.
Hey Mike, how's come not seeing any more videos? Sure do miss them.

Thanks Scott, you make some valid points. The 4.2 updates will be a significant upgrade.

you mention "public accesss" but does the app have a layer to recognize public and private land ownership like Onx or basemap?
The app shows public land boundaries but does not yet identify full plots of private land with owner information.
Hey Mike, seems like this is the ticket. Any idea if New York covered?

It’s a great app. Just wish they had my state on it.
Mike, I'm a PSU '69 grad. Question, are you taking any pictures for Sara?

That's fair, not for everyone.
Hi Mike - think it might be pronounced as a rhyme?
Trout ‘rout’ vs Trout ‘root’ ?
However you wanna pronounce it!
