    Saul THANKS bought wax skis and your video series gave me confidence
    Was out on Sunday and the skis worked great. ✌️

    Wow. Very informative. I went with waxable skis because I liked the tradition of it. However without knowing how to wax properly, I have been wishing that I went with waxless skis. I will pick up some clister on the way to the lake this weekend, just so I have everything in the video. Looking forward to hitting the trails and not having to do all the work with my arms!

    I wish I knew this the first time I ever used the red wax. Great info!

    For beginners this is accuratre information. The old expression is TLC. Thicken, lengthen, change. Unfortunately, if you are putting klister on your skis, you will need to remove the hard kick waxes, as the klister will not adhere to the hard waxes. Some of the new liquid klisters can be a very good solution. Saul always has good information for beginning skiers. The first thing to do is to read the temperature and the snow information on the wax tin. Use the information you have. You have to start in the right ball park. The best thing is to go to a waxing clinic and learn the fundamentals of ski waxing.

    Glad to keep you skiing. Waxless skis are a convenience product not a performance product. Your choice is performance vs convenience.

    I use a waxing cork to smooth the wax. A synthetic waxing cork works best.--Saul

      @@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul First time I saw the button on TH-cam so I thought I'd try it. I hope you actually benefit from people chipping in. I don't mind paying more if for some of the gems you talked about in this video. We're newbies to cross country skiing and sure would have benefitted from hearing some of this advice last year. My first klister experiment gave our legs a great workout like walking with cement bricks on our feet.... Thanks for being a content creator!

      You are welcome. The button is is news to me. I'm not aware of any benefit to me or even how they might get you to the correct product.

    Just discovered you Saul. Great, simple to apply advices. Thank you.
    Question for you : any particular advices for skis equipped with skins? How to know when to clean skins, how to clean them!, should skins be waxed in any way? Thx in advance.

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Welcome aboard! Don't wait for skins to get dirty. Apply Skin Cleaner regularly and wipe on Skin Conditioner regularly. Like brushing your teeth.

    If one needs to glidewax outside with propane torch made for skiwaxing do I need to do anything differently? Thank you. Best instructional video on youtube👍

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using a propane torch/iron can be dangerous as you have no control of actual temperature. It is easy to damage your skis and bases with excess heat. If you see smoke it is too hot. This will will take skill and experience.

      @@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul Thank you for the answer. I do have a model, that has temperature gauge in it and the model is made for skiwaxing, but as you said it is tricky to keep the temperature constant. I figured once I have the correct temperature or just before that actually I need to shut it off and then use the heat on it to melt the wax without the flame. Some 35-years ago I remember everybody were using them in Scandinavia just before races to wax their skis outside. Your skiwaxing videos are very good.

    What do you suggest for waxing for a 50km distance that is done each day for a two day event- Canadian Ski Marathon?

    Can one remove dried-on wax by reheating it with an iron, ie, not scraping it off while dry?

    Saul - love watching your video's. I know this is an.old one, but still quite relevant.
    I'm taking part in this year's Vasaloppet. I have Fischer Twin Skin Pro Stiff.
    On Wednesday I did my first 20km on ungroomed, fresh snow (snow still falling)
    When I got to a fairly good climb, and sno not groomed at all, let alone classic tracks, I started to get clumping of snow either side of my skins but not on the skins. The clumping was only about 10cm along from each end of the skins. I put it down to just fresh sticky snow.
    When I went back out for a further 10km they had groomed some of the track...and I was moving like greased lightning!!!
    Could you possibly help explain the earlier clumping?
    Snow temp -0.10°C
    Air temp -5°C
    High humidity
    Wax = Nzero universal +5° to -5°
    Many thanks in advance

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fresh untracked snow has sharp crystals that grip aggressively on your base. This is not a common condition but it does occur in fresh falling snow above or near 0c with high humidity. You can minimize clumping with the application of wipe on glide wax around your skins. If it happens minimize stomping on your skis. Keep them sliding.

    I am pretty new to classic XC, how do you know if you need a more sticky wax or if its just bad technique?

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tim Walker Let experience be your guide. You can check with other skiers to see what works for them. Don't be afraid to experiment.

    Is there a way to look at recent snow/weather conditions to avoid guessing and checking too many times for proper kickwax application?

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Allyson Yund With experience this can be be done. You must consider all aspects of the snow. The best way to get that experience is to follow a simple system and take notes.
