In the world of stability shoes, these are a winner and like you said, the price is right. Plenty of cushion, good roll through with the rocker so can pick up the pace better than a lot of other stability options. But if you can get by fine with neutral shoes then you don't need to look at these.
I heard that Saucony my stop making this shoe going forward. The rest of the Endorphin line are some exciting and fun shoes. This one doesn’t really fit that mold. I recently ran in the Saucony Tempus. That is a stability shoe with power run PB foam. That shoe is much lighter than this one and would be a good shoe for neutral runners as well. Really impressed by that one. I’ve been running in ASICS Superblast recently as well. That shoe makes this one irrelevant. It’s so much better and also lighter. If they would only ever go on sale. The high price tag is the only negative with that one. ASICS offers a 30% discount for first responders though. So I was able to take advantage of that.
It’s definitely a good shoe. I was coming off of running in a bunch of light yet still cushioned shoes like the Hoka Mach 5, NB Rebel 3, Saucony Speed 3 and Puma Deviate Nitro 2. Those shoes all have good cushioning, but are still capable of going fast. So I prefer those to the Shift. However, I’ve been doing a lot more easy runs lately and will be putting more miles on the Shift over the winter. I may do an update on this shoe once I put some more miles in it.
I have Shift 2 shoes (not shift 3 due to no big improvement) and very like them. I take out the original insole and change a more responsive one - bought from Decathlon - Kalenji R700. I use them for long easy run. It is definitely a durable shoes !
I've had the Shift 3 for quite some time and I've done about 300km in them. For the most part, I really liked them and found them to be quite versatile, even for some speed work. I think I did a sub 18 minute 5km run in them which is not all that far off my PB. Having said that, I do actually agree that the heavy (I wouldn't call the Shift 3 heavy) max cushion shoes aren't really necessary and something like the Velocity Nitro 2 can handle pretty much any of the work a max cushion shoe is expected to do with much less shoe. Each to their own though.
A sub 18 minute 5k in that shoe is very impressive! In fairness, I haven’t attempted a speed workout in them yet. But I’m not feeling a propulsive, assistive ride from that shoe. The last run I did in them felt plodding and sluggish. I’ll do an update if it makes me eat my words in later runs. In my size, it’s close to 11 OZ. My speedier shoes are about 3 OZ lighter. So it’s not incredibly heavy but I have some much lighter shoes where I can really get my cadence up a lot better than in that shoe. We’ll see how it treats me after some more runs in it. Recently I’ve just really been enjoying the light daily trainer/tempo shoes that feel more energetic to me.
Feeling you on the summer running. As a native Minnesotan living in Florida, running outside right now either feels like running on the surface of the sun or through a rain forest. Most days I just end up in my garage on the treadmill. At least until this heat and humidity let up.
Haha. I like your detailed description. It’s just been the rain forrest by me recently. I don’t have a treadmill in my house because of my height. If I got one, I’d want to put in in my basement. I have kind of a home gym down there. But it’s a drop ceiling, and I’m 6’4”. So if I put a treadmill down there my head would be through the ceiling. Haha. I just want a comfortable 50-60 degree run with no humidity and a nice breeze. That would be beautiful. I’d even take 28 degrees all bundled up over this humidity. I noticed your picture there. Have you done any of those runs through Disney? That looks like it would be fun to do, but I think it’s hard to get a spot, correct?
@@runwithsean I have done several of the Disney runs. The only one that can be difficult to get is the Dopey Challenge. That consists of the 5, 10, half and full. It’s in January and 2024 will be the first time I got it. Last year I sat in an online queue for 4 hours and didn’t get it. Had to settle for the “Goofy challenge” which is just the half and full. I’m going to be doing an 18 week training regiment starting in about 5ish weeks that will lead me up to January. Right now I’m just base building / maintaining. P.S… Being from Minnesota, I miss having a basement! No basements in FL
Ive been running in Hoka Mach 5's after trying a pair of On's & the On's lost support in the sole after 30-40 miles. The Mach 5's have been excellent but im a bigger guy at 215lbs. Ive gotten a little over 300 miles out of my Mach's but they're starting to wear now too. My arch in my left foot is fine but my right foot has a flatter arch so im hoping buying these will help with that! I just hope my left foot doesnt some how get messed up by using a stability shoe instead of a neutral one. But i went with this one bc ive heard others say its more like a structured neutral shoe than your normal stability(whatever that means)
I enjoy the Mach 5 as well. I’m 230 pounds, so I prefer shoes that aren’t too soft. Traditional stability shoes usually have posting in the midsole, different density foams in certain areas, etc. to try to help stop over pronation. This shoe has Saucony’s regular PWR Run foam throughout. It is stable for a shoe with this high of a stack. That’s mainly because of the width of the shoe, that you sit down into the foam a bit in the heel (kind of wraps around your foot) and there is a plastic piece surrounding the heel for additional support. So I’d agree that it is a stable neutral shoe more than a full on stability shoe. I thought this shoe would feel softer than it does. It doesn’t give you a lot of pop or energy return, but it’s solid for daily miles.
@@runwithsean they came! And I did my first 5k in them and rolled my ankle twice in the first 4 minutes of my run the other day 😭 🤣 I'm going to give them another shot today on my run. I never rolled my ankles in the Mach 5's. I think it's bc the stack is so high. But after I rolled my ankle twice I didn't do it again for the rest of the run & I didn't actually hurt myself.
That’s a skill that I’ll need to develop. My foot turned to the outside and it kind of strained the tendons in the outside of my foot, rather than the ankle itself. I iced it for a few days. The day after, it was hard to put weight on but was like 70% better day two and 85% better day three. Then I had to run a 5k race that day. So I actually went with the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 rather than one of my typical race shoes. I wanted some more support and stability. Felt fine after the race and am now back to 100%. So thankfully that wasn’t a worse injury.
I didn't like the original pwrrun in the Triumph 17. Too firm. I'm wanting to know if this Shift 3 is firm like the Triumph 17, because the Triumph 20 is waaaay better than the 17.
That was a lot of quick comments that led to a buying decision and a great deal. Haha. The Shift 3 uses Saucony PWR Run foam. They put PWR Run Plus in the Triumph. I usually wear a size 12 in normal shoes. In running shoes I can be a 12, 12.5 or 13 depending on the brand and the fit of the shoe. I need a 12.5 from Saucony in the Endorphin Speed, Pro, Elite and Tempus. I can get away with a 12 in the Guide and the Shift. It is a little on the narrow side in the toe box. So if you have a wider foot, you may want a 12.5. But my normal 12 works for me in length. My foot is also on the narrow side, so I'm fine with the toe box. In the past, I have found PWR Run + to be a bit more soft and bouncy then regular PWR Run foam. But it is also heavier. Saucony definitely made some changes to the PWR Run foam in the Guide 15 and the Shift 3. It feels a bit lighter, less dense and a bit softer. It's still not a super soft or bouncy foam. But I find it comfortable and stable for longer runs. They also put an insole of PWR Run PB in there. Which adds to the softer step in feel and makes the shoe feel a little bit bouncier. I had the Shift 1 and that was a firmer feeling shoe. The rocker was also more pronounced in that one. So it feels faster to me than the Shift 3. Although the Shift 3 feels softer and bouncier than the 1. I prefer the 3 to the 1 for longer runs and easy runs. Which is really what I'm looking for this shoe to do for me. This shoe is more stable than the Invincible run for sure. There is a lot less rebound from this foam than the Zoom X in that shoe and it feels more planted and solid. Let me know how it works out for you. I find this shoe to be a solid, stable, comfortable shoe. It doesn't inspire me to run fast in it. But it's a reliable daily trainer than can eat up a lot of miles.

I love my shift 3. Had a bad lower back lately and these really help me still run

With that thick stack I expect the Shift to be good for several miles. I’ll be using it more for some easy runs soon.
I have the shift 2 too but it didn't last me more than 310km

Ankle rolls can be a bummer. Happened so much in XC I got quick at reacting to them. I can almost always catch myself in time now.

How's the fit of the Shift, 'cause I found the Speed I needed a 12.5 or 13 when all my other shoes are 12s.
I didn't like the original pwrrun in the Triumph 17. Too firm. I'm wanting to know if this Shift 3 is firm like the Triumph 17, because the Triumph 20 is waaaay better than the 17.
If found the Invincible Run 1 just a TAD unstable, but the More v3 is not a bit unstable.
Found used Shift 3 in pretty good condition for $26. Guess I'll do it. ty
Are these unstable like that ridiculously unstable Novablast 1?

No... Let the summer continue, especially here in London.
Greeting from across the pond. How’s the humidity for you over there? I’m a 6’4’’ 230 pound Irish guy. I need shade and air conditioning. Haha
@@runwithseanhorrible. Bring on the autumn.
