What Happened to 3D TV's?

- In the early 2010s it seemed like every manufacturer around was pushing their new 3d tv on consumers, promising it was the future and the natural successor to high definition. By 2016, 3d tv’s had mostly stopped being produced and were no where to be found in shops a year later. So why did 3d tv’s fail to take off and will they ever make a comeback? That’s what we’re going to answer in this video.

One of the main reasons 3d TV's failed to gain mainstream adoption was their price. 3D TVs were typically more expensive than their non-3D counterparts. Additionally, consumers needed to purchase 3D glasses and compatible Blu-ray players, which added to the overall cost. A TV, 4 pair of glasses and a 3d blue ray player could cost easily over $2000 depending on the models chosen.
Couple this price with the scarcity of 3D Content and it becomes a very hard sell. There was a limited amount of 3D content available, including movies, TV shows, and broadcasts. While some 3D Blu-ray discs and occasional broadcasts were available, the lack of consistent and compelling 3D content hindered consumer interest.
Eye strain and general discomfort were also big factors. Many viewers reported experiencing eye strain, headaches, and even nausea after watching 3D content for extended periods. Some users mentioned only being able to comfortably view 3d content for an hour at most before getting headaches, making an average film unwatchable to some.
A final and perhaps most significant reason for the failure of 3d TV's was the need for 3d glasses in general. It deterred casual viewing and was particularly problematic for those who already wore regular glasses. No wants to have to wear something on their face just to get the most of their tv.
So will 3d tv’s ever make a comeback? Its very unlikely but not impossible. Development is already well underway for glasses free 3d monitors which would eliminate one of the biggest reasons for 3d tv’s not taking off. Without content support and a reasonable price though I don’t believe we’ll see 3d tv’s take over in the future like some once thought they would.

I have had a 3D tv since 2014 and have enjoyed watching (well, re-watching) the marvel and other special effects filled movies on it. It was magnificent! My TV packed up December last year. Looking to replace it with a new 3D TV only to learn they have long since stopped being manufactured (What a shame!). YES, I want them back.
I had an LG 3d TV back in the day & my mum & dad bought one as well after viewing the little run thru thing it used to show you that was built into the apps line thing, glass being blown etc. Yet I don't think any of us ever moved beyond that at any point. Stupidly we assumed once you bought it, all you needed to do was wear the specs & voila, all would be in 3d 😶🌫️ In my defence, it was a simpler time back then, 8 or 9 years ago 😏
Yes, I still have a 2016 60" LG 4k 3D TV. 3D blu-rays are still produced, at least outside of the U.S., and some 4k blu-ray players still include 3D. I also have a 3D projector that shows 3D on a big screen, which can be impressive. It's a fun effect if well done. Amazon used to sell 3D TVs (mostly used), but not so much anymore. Too bad they probably won't come back.
i still have 65 inch DLP Mitsubishi tv with the glasses. Its only 1080p though. I probably watched 10 movies max on it the entire time i had it as 3D. The content that i wanted to watch was just not there. They were awesome to watch, but i am not someone who watches the same thing twice very often. I think Prometheus and Avatar were the best ones that really stood out on this TV. Now that i dont wear glasses, thats no longer an issue for me. The one thing i wasnt as impressed with was the depth of the 3D images. Big difference between theatre 3D and home 3D. I would imagine it would be much better with the 100" + screens coming out. Projectors still have 3D, so i could also replace the setup with a projector based one instead.
I don't know why but 3D movies released after 2015 are basically 2D movies .. We don't get that pop out effect anymore😢
I didn't even know this existed.
It’s rise and fall was fairly quick!
Steve, are you a zoomer?
@@KamaradeKriska no I am a coomer
I remember going to IMax films at the movie theaters 15 yrs ago & getting headaches every damn time. I stopped going to IMax movies by 2014 brah
Yeah I used to get slight headaches towards the end of the film too 😂
