I was taught the stitch to the zipper method when I bought my longarm. Did it exactly once and have been pinning every since. I find having the longarm frame hold up the back or top while I pin is much easier than wrestling them through a domestic machine. Also if the back isn't exactly square I can tweek it under the pins. Try different methods to find the one that works for you.
I don't center, I marked an equal distance from the left side on both zippers, and that's where I start sewing the fabric. It seems to be more accurate for me than it was working from the center. SO happy about basting my zippers to the backing.
I have this product and love it. I find the center of the backing top and bottom match the pins together making sure the backing is falling straight. Stitch from the center out on both sides. Love Love them.
This is a great idea! Could you show us the longer Basting Stitch on the Backing side I cannot see the liner Basting Stitches with the white Thread on the White Zipper? Thank you
Nicely done ladies! I would think that if you need to baste on the cut edge, perhaps starching it first or maybe even a line of stay stitching before basting may help
Hi! Quick question--I just watched your video on putting binding on on the longarm. You didn't say what size you cut your binding at. I loved the video!!!
I own The Quilting Connection and we are the originator of the zipper system! You can find them on our website here stores.longarmconnection.com/quick-zip-system/
Do you mean once it’s loaded on the longarm? If you have a Glide foot that helps so much!! Then keeping your fingers behind the needle and only your thumb in front of the needle. If you rest your entire hand in front of the needle, you will see it stretch and pucker. Hope that helps!

Loved this video! Just what I was looking for! I did baste it to the cut edge and I just winged it. I will try your method next time. Thank you 😊
Is there a video or instructions adding the grosgrain ribbon to the cut side? TY
Thank you

That’s a great idea!
Looking forward to trying this. I'm wondering if using a walking foot on the cut edge might eliminate the puckering. I may have to experiment 😊
Yes! Let me know what you find works best!

Hi Judy! I usually use a 2 1/2” binding. I’ve done it with 2 1/4” and it’s a little tight to flip around for my liking.
Happy Quilting!

I have never seen backing fabric with a printed guide for stitching a 1/4" seam - what brand is this?
I didn’t even notice that! I think this was from Blank fabrics or Studio E. It was 108” wide backing.
Where did you purchase your Quilt Backing Zippers ?

How do you baste on the sides without it puckering as you quilt

Wouldn't it be better to sew a strip of canvas to the zip and then sew the quilt to the strip so as not to ruin the zip by sewing it?
