These hand-drawn stills from low budget television look really hideous. The flavor text is mostly references to other named characters often not even depicted in cards. Can you give me any examples of cards that you thought were successful?

I've already seen a few comments from people saying they know nothing about Doctor Who but are liking the look of these cards. I'm the opposite end of the spectrum. I'm a lifelong Doctor Who fan, who has been aware of Magic for nearly as long (though I've never taken the plunge), and WOTC have twisted my nipples enough with the collab to make me want to get into the hobby. So the marketing ploy worked. Even though I currently know nothing about Magic, just reading the cards, I am impressed how flavourful and accurate to Doctor Who they are. I'm happy Magic fans are liking the Doctor Who cards. I'm going to make a Twelfth Doctor deck, as he's my favourite incarnation. It's very cool that I pretty much get to play as him in a card game, and I'm going to start looking for other blue and red cards from other sets that take advantage of his mechanics.
Thank you for doing this, Dev. If I have a bone to pick, though, it's that you didn't do a video like this for the Warhammer 40k commander cards. As someone who loves both Magic and 40k I would have loved to see you looking at those cards. Also, watch Doctor Who; it's fantastic.
19:20 - While this is an unlikely thing to pull off, but this plus the indestructible artifact lands and then some kind of blink effect on all your lands (like Teferi's Protection). Now you just need a trample effect.
I think it is interesting how the quality of regular commander decks drop off but the quality of Universes Beyond sets seems premiere. - Missy: Meet my new friend Ixidor Reality Shaper - Cybermat, Cybermen in Urtet with a Maskwood Nexus - Vashta Nerada is the kind of creature that goes perfect with Endless Evil - On Vrestin: White adds stuff like True Conviction, Odric to share abilities, Divine Visitation, more Populate options... - Displaced Dinosaur looks super fun in my Jaheira Friend of the Forest/Street Urchin all it mainly does is make Clue/Treasure/Food tokens or LOL use the Dino in Korvold Treasures... ;p
Enjoying everything, chuckling idly at the beginning of the coffee break. "...and it fits under an Isochron Scepter." Immediately: "OH GODS I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT"
Nanogene is a rather neat card, Echoing Equation have given me some fun games in the past and I fond that Goreclaw was the most satisfying target for it.
So for Cybermat, his skulk ability takes place first, so until it's confirmed there is nothing blocking him then he gets the buff. So for the most part because of that Skulk he's gonna be able to get around a fair amount of blockers.
I just realized.. Missy is a 2nd copy of Ratadrabik!!! Except for everything that dies. Now I just have to figure out how to squeeze her into a historic Jodah Deck!
I only play solemnity decks and sagas are my favorite to play against, especially if their removal is also sagas. They just sit there lol. Only shame is it doesn't work on battles or planeswalkers without some tricks
I moved from standard to commander a long time ago. I love it that you are covering a bit of commander in your videos now too. Still my favorite TH-cam channel
If I might make a recommendation: if you never watch any other episode of Dr. Who, watch the Vincent van Gogh episode from Matt Smith's tenure as the doctor. It's the where the moment depicted on the card Ecstatic Beauty comes from.
Displaced Dinosaurs + Dockside Extortionist is stupid dumb. But ill be damned if im not gonna pit it in my Attraction Deck to turn my Space Carnival into Jurassic Park
If you're a commander player that hates Farewell, a 6 mana sorcery - then you're playing 1-4/10 on the power scale. Sorry. Commander is arguably a stronger format than Legacy. Remember that when you're building your casual jank.
Pretty sure a $10-15 card isn't going in any 1-4 power decks... It's definitely around the 7 power range (but obviously not in the 9-10 territory reserved for EDH). It's more powerful than anything in a precon deck that's for sure (and those are usually 4-5 on the usual scale).
WOTC doesn't make good cards that much. Most of the cards made with each set are not used on decks I make. always the same lame creatures i.e. vandal again. bounch of reprints. Nothing new or fun. not enough anyway.
I don't know a single thing about Doctor Who but even without any lore knowledge I can see these cards have amazing flavor/mechanics.

Blink is a perfect compression of an excellent story turned into an MTG card

It's always evolving content he looks for improvement every step of the way learned from the last content
We need cards like farewell to keep all the other broken and way too difficult to remove threats that exist now in check

I like the Cult of Skaro for just a fun grixis deck
Hey dev, i love your intro, is there ever going to be a full version of it?

Very enjoyable presentation, Dev
Great call on Deekah with Danny, fractal tokens do work the way you think in this case, as the counters are placed after they enter.

Good to see Coffee breaks coming back.
Nanny gene with that vislor doctor companion (the only mono black one) would be fun!
Is there a way to turn a Cyberman right side up?
There's handles on their helmets.
@@motorcycleboy9000Not going to lie, that made me laugh out loud.
wakka wakka
Not natively. If the card has morph it can still be turned face up that way. Blinking the Cyberman will return it face up. That's about it.
I only play solemnity decks and sagas are my favorite to play against, especially if their removal is also sagas. They just sit there lol. Only shame is it doesn't work on battles or planeswalkers without some tricks
For Vrestin, Ant Queen. Such a good card in Tokens or insects.
It's actually pretty pathetic for someone to cry about Farewell or any mass removal for that matter in EDH when it's necessary and needed.
The only doctor i want to build is the War Doctor. It's boros and it's so strong.
I knew there was a reason we could be friends. War Doctor and the Ninth Doctor are my favorites.
9:47 literally got an extra second doctor for my group hug deck XD
17:30 the cost reflects it being blue, because it reads like a Boros card lol.
I dunno how I never knew Dev was a Timmy at heart. Also much respect for continuing to call it Twitter. 😂
The clocktower also works with changelings, so Orvar. Who also loves Nanogene of course.
Ian Chesterton what the hell will it do to urza's saga instant saga loop it's a land without a mana cost
You don’t cast Urza’s Saga. You play it as a Land. No time spent on the stack, no cast, which means no Replicate timing.
“Smoother than your sister’s hips” 😂 I’m dead
From what little I’ve seen of Doctor Who, my favorite Doctor is the 10th, followed closely by the 11th
Danny Pink as the commander and the search up Deekah with Wizardcycling
Impactful Blue one drop: mystic remora
I guess I should have specified creatures, but you're definitely not wrong

Slitherblade obvs
@@SBMTG13:37 you did say creatures.
I have no knowledge of anything Doctor Who, but this set is sweet! Might pickup the Bant precon. Historic shenanigans, here I come!
God I love the coffee breaks hahaha
Ian and Barbara are First Doctor companions.
Missy is by far the card i am looking forward to the most
What chaos dose Missy ensue
I wanna build Me, the Immortal. I wish these commanders could come to Arena.
I don't have the time and money to be huilding all these decks irl 😭
Man, fair enough, say what you will, but I hope they keep printing great board wipes.
If I might make a recommendation: if you never watch any other episode of Dr. Who, watch the Vincent van Gogh episode from Matt Smith's tenure as the doctor. It's the where the moment depicted on the card Ecstatic Beauty comes from.
Series 5 is an excellent jumping on point for Doctor Who, in my opinion.
I like farewell...
its funny that the time travel set has a ton of old abilities
I know time is a mess but Amonket wasn't 15 years ago (talking about afflict)
Vestrin + Ramona 2 (and 3... 4... 5...) + 6th doctor = Insect madness.
Displaced Dinosaurs + Dockside Extortionist is stupid dumb. But ill be damned if im not gonna pit it in my Attraction Deck to turn my Space Carnival into Jurassic Park
I found it hilarious that all the cards you hate are the ones I love 😂
I'm a dirty aminatou commander player lol
Farewell needs to have battles and planeswalkers on it, weak without it
Missy is FIRE.
since when is hour of devesation amonketh over 15 years ago ? afflict was created 6 years ago
🚀 Love the blend of Doctor Who and Mtg! 🎴
Thank you!
Watch the episode called 'Blink'! You won't regret it!
Yeah, it's completely standalone; no prior knowledge of the show required. And it's one of the best episodes, on top of that.
Set looks sick
emry is a pretty good one drop
Cyberman tribal, when?
Holy shit. I just found out I got unsubed from your channel :( but that has just been fixed
You my spirit animal dev😊
Can Ian Chesterton cast Urzas Saga an Infinite number of times?
Seeing someone this butt-hurt over 'farewell' is... kinda hilarious.
Another edition I can and will easily skip. Thanks nevertheless, Dev!
Would you have rather banned thassas oracle then make Everyone Wins??
Afflict is from 2017.
Smoother than your sisters hips is crazy
I'm skipping this set. I just can't keep up. I am so.. ready to just give up on the newest cards. Maybe run into cool singles in edh. Get them only.
23:29 🤣

Nope. Not buying it.

The power ramp would be rampant (pardon the pun) if they printed a bunch of cards that you want to include in decks.
Every card in your decks is a card wizards made tho 🧐
