Fascinating watching you remove the neck, as an amateur I am grateful for professionals like your self for sharing your knowledge. I have read books on violin making but nothing beats a demonstration as a huge amount can be learned just from observing how you use your hands and tools. Looking forward to future videos.

That hide glue is a wonderglue. Permanent, yet undoable. I just tried using fish glue to re-attach a violin neck. I tested the glue by letting a bit dry up hard, then sitting in some water. It completely dissolved. I hesitate to glue the top on with it though. I'll go with the hide glue on that. Thanks for sharing.

This was a very detailed and informative video. Im surprised to see one of these german Maggini copies with a dovetailed neck, most of the ones I've seen and worked on have the through necks where the neck and block are one piece.

My understanding is that this with the neck and block in one are often older, early to mid 19th century, and more likely Klingenthal. Thanks for your kind words.

Just excellent - I set a neck on a new build not to my Satisfaction and this showed me how to get it back out and - yep - do it again! 🤦‍♂️

I just started my first neck reset on my old Stainer. The fingerboard height above the top is slightly less than 3/4 of an inch. I’m also going to refinish it. A previous owner (or someone) put a nitrocellulose finish on it. I’m going for dewaxed shellac and then True Oil. Unconventional but I want to see how it works out. Thanks much! 😎🎻

Thanks, coincidentally, I have one just like that, and need to do the same thing.

Wow, really masterful job of removing the neck. I was so interested that you used no heat. Any other time I’ve seen it done, the luthier heated the knives up, to really quite hot. I have to say, the results speak for themselves; that’s the cleanest I’ve ever seen a neck joint after a removal.
Do all of yours come out like that? I think I’m going to rethink my methods!

I would also be very interested to hear the details about your training.

Maybe I'll do a general Q&A and background on me kinda video!

Interesting, wouldn't some light heat soften the glue and ease the separation?

Could normal wood glue damage the instrument or affected the sound ?

Good question!! If it's ok I'll consider the answer and reply at the start of the next vid👍
