    One of the best movie theater going experiences of my entire life. I remember my cousins trying to creep me out. They kept reminding that the Joker was from The Shining. As a 5 year old, of course I was blown away. Never missed a Batman movie in a theater since. Back then, any of those summers that a Batman movie came out, that summer felt special. Those who went and saw them back then know what I'm talking about. The bat-mania.

      Nigel Phelps is still alive and working in the industry today, Phelps is the one who drew all the buildings and sets. Make fun of Judge Dredd all you want, but that depiction of Mega-City 1 is incredible. And Julian Caldow drew all the vehicles and gadgets. Furst verbally dictated what he wanted to his illustrators, exactly like Bo Welch, Barbara Ling and very other average PD in the industry. William Stout and Ron Cobb he was not, Furst has been elevated to a DaVinci level genius folk hero in the midwest.

    I finally got around to watching Batman recently, and honestly I agree with Roger Ebert's remarks. I don't really care for the movie personally, but you can't deny the impact and importance of it. My favorite comic book movies like Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would probably not exist had it not been for Batman's influence. I'll forever be grateful for this movie

    I can't think of many things I could care less about than what a critic thinks of a movie I like. If you like a movie, that's all that matters. There are plenty of movies that didn't do well with critics that I love. People shouldn't feel shame for enjoying a movie that others don't. I'm more into Batman now as an adult than I was when I was a kid playing with my Batman remote control car. I watch every Batman movie (including George Clooney's Batman) and still love them all.

    I Disagree with his assessment that movies of the 70s and 80s didn't set out to become Blockbusters, that becoming blockbusters was inadvertent.
    Indiana Jones, E.T., Gremlins, The Karate Kid, Back to the Future, and Ghostbusters, from the very beginning were all Meant To Be Blockbuster summer movies. (These movies made the month of June and the first week of July the most coveted time to release summer blockbusters).

    • @TBHJR
      @TBHJR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jaws was the first blockbuster in June ‘75. Everyone after that wanted to capture that summer box office money. Many may not have wanted to have that “blockbuster” status in name but they definitely wanted the money flow.

    I really can’t wait to see Michael Keaton Batman again!….bring on the flash movie!…..
    Thank you Warner Brothers for Batman 1989, and for believing in both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton!
    Michael Keaton was the best casting choice for that era!….just like Christopher Reeves was before him!
    And now Ben Affleck is the second best if not tied to Michael Keaton as the best two live action Batman actors to play the character on the silver screen!…..
    Henry Cavill is just as amazing as superman too!
    We as fans want more of the current DCEU going forward and keep the multiverse with each iteration of Batman and superman alive!…..
    Looking forward to seeing next year’s the flash movie and Robert Pattinson The Batman movie come to life!…..

    It's kind of pointless trying to decide which film is the "modern" blockbuster, because there never has been any single filmmaking style that corresponds to it. JAWS (1975) is often cited as the very first example, but I remember watching it and reflecting that JAWS is not only not a horror film, but isn't even much of an action film either; in many ways, it refuses to be categorized. I suppose that the KING KONG remake (1976), STAR WARS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, and BLADE RUNNER could all compete for the title. But I wouldn't include BATMAN among those contenders. If anything, BATMAN could be said to be the first "revisionist" blockbuster, paving the way not only for the "serious" Batman films that came later, but also for THE CROW, THE MATRIX, etc.

    Guber and the 2 executives that ran WB, they forgot it was this 1 guy executive producer Michael Uslan that actually bought the film rights and form Batfilm productions in 79. He shopped it to the other studios other than WB for the next couple yrs and they declined, After that a script was being developed for the next 4 yrs and potential directors considered (1980-84) After Peewees Big adventure was a big success, thats when they hired Tim for the job, along with Sam Hamm to write/develop the script.
