    God I hated Bed of Chaos at sl1. Literally made me give up on the challenge after beating it because I was so fed up.

    Dark Souls 1 may not be my favorite in the series, but i find the items used in the lv1 run to be extremely interesting

    You know favour and protection is such a busted item. The supposed downside is that it breaks when you take it off but they made it so powerful that you would basically never want to take it off anyway.

    • @oceatwo

      yeah exactly. It was a cool idea but they overtuned it. I think it would be a cool mechanic to bring back.

    Hearing this guy talk up the presentation of Gwyn with a loop of parries in the background might just be the funniest thing I've seen in a month

  • @nasigil5928
    @nasigil5928 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yeah Gwyn is actually really hard if you don't parry. On my first playthrough I try to roll past his attacks and quickly found out it's almost impossible, his swings are insanely fast for DS1 rolls, and he leaves almost no room for healing. Then I switched to parrying and got him in like 2 tries. Impeccable presentation, flawed moveset.

    Did all the DS games at SL1, DLC's included. This might be a crazy statement (considering DS2's adaptability), but DS1 was honestly my least favorite to finish because of how sluggish it felt. I agreed with everything you said about Gwyn, which took me the longest out the entire game to kill because he was so damn fast and overall ended the run on a very low note imo.
    I would recommend doing a DS2 SL1 run if you enjoyed the game on your first run, as it was still enjoyable and the low ADP wasn't too noticeable if you get the peasant set.

    I've beaten DS1 at sl1 two times, one with the reinforced club and the other with pyromancies; the best part was the possibility of having hyper mode and maxed items before most bosses, and the damage dealt (even the DLC bosses were beaten in 6-8 hits)

    Can't wait for Dark Souls 2, can't wait to see the SL1 gank fight

    Now i havent actually gone back to finish gwyn and do the dlc, but i did however do the rest of the game in an sl1 attempt. I agree with a lot of the sentiments here (im playing on the ol prepare to die edition if that mattered) the lord souls were all pretty bad experiences both in their areas and in their fights, most of the early and mid game fights were either the same or at least better, but a surprise experience for me was O&S. Lord have mercy i used to think this fight was amazing in so many ways and in principle i still believe it is, however the sheer amount of jank (whether it be the ai or the hitboxes) thats emphasized to a greater degree due to the lower hp in the run really soured my memories of this fight. I spent somewhere around 5 hours on this boss iirc and wouldnt really relish doing it again. I do really need to return at some point and give the dlc a good shot.

    • @Sabreur23
      @Sabreur23 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your experience with O&S sounds pretty similar to mine. They were a straight up wall for me for an embarrassing amount of time. Only way I found to do it was by restarting repeatedly until I could get the RNG I needed: O doing his zoom attack right out of the gate, me guessing and dodging the right direction so he would be in range for an R2, and stun locking/killing him *immediately* before S can get close (4 hits I think with lightning reinforced club + RTSR?). Honestly though if you can get through that, the DLC is a (relative) breeze and quite a lot of fun. Spent *hours* on O&S and then beat Artorias and Manus in 3-5 attempts each lol

    Well done. Though Dark soul’s isn’t my favourite fromsoft game it certainly set the ground work for everything that came after, and more than deserves it’s pop culture status.
    However now you have done a level 1 run of Elden Ring, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3 you have only one choice. You must finish the Dark Souls trilogy. You must do a level 1 run of Dark Souls 2!

      Thanks. Although I'm not really that fond of ds2 so it might be a while before I get around to it. :/

    It's a bit silly noticing that the damage you do to Manus at SL1 is proportional to how much damage you do to Elden Beast at RL120... From bosses really just got beefier and beefier as time went on.

    • @melissazadrozny5167
      @melissazadrozny5167 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True, but it is also worth keeping in mind that an optimized SL1 run can do quite a lot of damage even compared to the average normal run. I felt like I was doing more damage on SL1 than I did on my normal run of DS1, because I was taking advantages of weaknesses, switching weapons, and using optimal accessories for the situation. Depending on the game, sometimes that is even more important than level.

  • @eliteclasswarrior94
    @eliteclasswarrior94 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My problem with the sl1 playthrough I did was the really long and annoying trips back to kalameet and some other bosses. What really surprised me was the fairness of most damages. I was expecting to be oneshot by most monsters but it almost never happened. All and all was fun. My question is: have you used pyromancies? Or you didn't want to use them for a specific reason?

    • @oceatwo
      @oceatwo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I didn't want to use them because they are too strong and I think magic in general allows you to avoid learning the Bosses properly. Originally I had a section in the video explaining all this but cut it for the sake of brevity. Also I totally agree with you about the fairness of the damage it's surprising how little health you can get away with in ds1 where there isn't any Lloyds shield ring/ ritual shield talisman

    • @eliteclasswarrior94
      @eliteclasswarrior94 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oceatwo Oh, I see. Well it's very understandable. Unless we get to a couple of very fire resistant bosses, Pyromancies do a ton of damage. What I also agree with is the Gwyn part. Gwyn is the prototype of what ds bosses will become. Thankfully you get a lot faster to compensate but in some cases like Malenia, if you use a slow weapon you're simply too slow

    I’m sorry but I’ll never understand using the claw grip, literally just take your finger off of the stick while you’re pressing the button, there are 0 instances in which it actually matters if you use it. I’ve gone my whole life without using it in games that people swear it’s required.
