@@MsGrockle that's true. I was watching some episodes of come dancing from 1979 on BBC 4 on Sunday nights and one of Shirley's dance teachers Nina hunt was one of the judges. And Shirley trained Kevin and Joanne Clifton's parents Keith and Judy

Here is something most people do not know. Riccardo & Yulia were students of Shirley Ballas, that's where they met. Max was there too. Shirley & Riccardo were boy friend-girl friend then. I don't know it they're still students but Shirley is definitely one of their coaches along with Donnie Burns.
@IsherwoodWilliams1 Donnie and Gaynor were champs in 84-98 plus or minus a year. This video is in the middle of their heyday. And both were competing at the highest level, hence my question.
@CDAFishboy No, Donnie and Gaynor were not competing that time. If you look at the finals of the professional Latin competition you will see they were not dancing..
If this event for only British competitors and of course Blackpool is the Open British Championship. Is this event not a big enough event for Donnie and Gaynor? Or just taking time off?

Shirley can be seen now (2009) on the BBC series Strictly Come Dancing, and doesn't seem to have aged a day.
Shirley has been the head judge on Strictly sine 2017.
They aren't on any channel now - they were broadcast by the BBC in the early 90s and I recorded them on tape at the time.
