Gunn is going to be aware of different takes of characters, the comic version, and also, is going to have his own take. He will have done his research, and there's already been unique approaches made with these characters. I think it is a given that he probably won't "copy", again wanting to do his own take, but he may either give a nod or wink to one particular iteration, or amalgam some ideas. First, if the rumor is true, it would have to be determined if "Ultra Man" is just a throwaway to throw us off, so it should be determined if it really is Ultraman, if it isn't, then who would it actually be (even if the name gets swapped out and replaced with Ultraman's), secondly, the character could be a combining of Ultraman + another superman character. Option one is obviously Bizarro. To my knowledge, live-action Bizarro has shown up in Superman IV Quest for Peace, Superboy tv show, Lois & Clark, Smallville, and Superman and Lois. Quest for Peace: Now Bizarro, Bizzaro, was cut out from the final cut of the film (the deleted scene can be found on YT). However, Nukelar man basically be seen as either Bizzaro #2 or combination of Bizzaro+AtomMan (basically the first big Superman villain all the way back from radio days). So the concept of combining Bizarro and another superman villain was done in the first adaption to film. Superboy: Pretty much followed the silver age version, scientist has a duplicating Ray (which Lex will later steal). Silver Age Bizzaro seems like a very James Gunn like character and I can see him getting behind the character in a similar way he did with Peacemaker and trying to find redeemable qualities with the character. L&C: Superman here was created by Lex Luthor, however he looks just like Clark. The only difference is that he doesn't persay have the mentality of a 33 year old and is in fact dying as his cells are breaking down. SV: Here you have to dig into the lore of Smallville, which I am assuming Gunn has done (bc of his MR friendship). With a lot of Smallville's takes and deepcuts, they didn't really spell out any of the origins for their characters and left a lot of breadcrumbs for audiences to "fill in" later. We never see it, but a HUGE plot point that connects to a lot of villains and season plotpoints on Smallville is the battle that happened between General Zods attempted take over of Krypton. MANY DC/Superman characters were involved in this (Martian Manhunter, Braniac, programs that lead to Bizzaro and Doomsday, ect, ect). SV's version of Bizzaro is in fact he's an alien parasite and was the worst of the worst occupants of the Zoners in the Phantom Zone. As season 9 showed, Krypton already had different cloning options in order and the technology to do so, most likely the original experiments with the entity that became Bizzaro didn't go according to those plans, he/it got too dangerous and for all we know, Jor El's Phantom Zone may have originally been created to house it. The only clue we have is that it couldn't "clone" with human DNA only "Kryptonian" DNA, so the question is asked: was Smallville's Bizzaro the result of a Kryptianian experiment turned horror story, or was it alien to begin with? S&L: Spoilers for those who have not watched the season. At first, S&L treat Bizzaro as coming from the multiverse and coming from a Bizzaro-World (therefore, not being a clone at all). Could this Ultraman be Doomsday? Doomsday in liveaction has made to three adaptions: Smallville, BvS, and S&L. Smallville: Again, you have to go deepdiving in the Smallville-lore to puzzle-piece this together. From the get go, Doomsday is a clone of General Zod (Davis Bloom) sent to earth so that the Brain-interactive-construct (Braniac) could find him, and use him as the host for phantom of General Zod to inhabit. However, Davis Bloom is a BIG deepdive to season 6's plot. We learn that Bloom isn't just a clone of Zod (similar to the Zod-clone villain of season 9). Zod (or Brainiac) took the DNA of Zod and combined it with "something else". We learn that Doomsday was engineered to be the ultimate destroyer. He essentially is the genesplicing experiment of several dangerous species of Krypton, BUT also of the zoners introduced all the way back in season 6. Each "zoner" was placed in the phantom zone, but many of them had "similarities" to powers and traits that Doomsday would have. The Big Shows Zoner, Titan, could create bone constructs. Batista's had Super Strength. Baern had invulnerability and energy absorption. I wouldn't be surprised if the Zoner that was Bizzaro somehow also had his DNA connected to this, perhaps, it was that splicing that allowed how that giant cocktail of dangerous genetics could grow and become kryptonian-like. BvS: Snyder or David S Goyer took and made A LOT of nods to Smallville (one scene in MoS literally was filled withing but Smallville alums - its the trucker scene, which even that scene was combination of Superman II's trucker scene plus the pilot of Smallville). In Smallville, Doomsday is a clone of Zod mixed with "something else". Likewise, BvS, Luthor cloned Zod (maybe added his own DNA, that I'm not sure of) and clearly mixed something else to create Doomsday. But when it boils down to it, it basically is the Smallville idea, Zod clone ='s Doomsday. S&L: Again spoilers. After Luthor finds Bizzaro, he then mutates him and finally creates him into Doomsday. So the S&L version of Doomsday is that he's Doomsday+Bizzaro. Kon-El/Superboy In the comics, Superboy is the clone of Luthor and Superman. To my knowledge, this version has been done only twice in live action: Smallville and Titans. Finally, Ultraman, himself. To my knowledge, Ultraman has been done on the Superboy tv show, where he's a dictator, Smallville (season 10) where he is from Earth 2 or Earth 3 and is evil and was raised by the Lionel Luthor, I know on the CW on one of the Crisis team-ups they faced a black suit Superman who was evil. I can't remember, I'm assuming that one came from Earth X? S&L will return to this and present HeLL as basically an Ultraman Superman from the earth that John Henry Irons is from. From the above and because of adaptions and that Gunn will be aware of the adaptions above, it is unlikely I would say his Ultraman will just be a clone Lex makes. BvS Lex cloned zod and made Doomsday. Some he probably is either combing characters, or will be making winks and nods to one of the adaptions listed above.

@@therealsnaily here is a bit about her The Engineer, also known as Angela Spica, is nowhere near as well-known of a villain as most of Superman's foes, but she sounds like she could kick all of their butts pretty easily. Spica is a member of The Authority (also soon to be adapted into a film by Gunn and his creative team at DC) that picked up the mantle of a previous hero, also known as The Engineer. After infusing herself with nanotech, the machinery replaced her blood and essentially turned her into liquid metal, giving her the ability to shape-shift and weaponize herself.
I won't say I entirely buy that it would be Ultraman but given one of the influences for this movie is 'Superman Birthright' we could see Luthor develop artificial Kryptonians to try and defame Superman. I do believe there is merit to the idea of the Engineer being made a metahuman by Luthor to try and set up his own corporate hero to make himself, and his brand, look good. This even fits in with the other heroes, who are either the Terrifics (Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner replacing Phantom Girl and Plastic Man) or a kind of proto-Justice League funded by Maxwell Lord (remember he's in the movie too) being pitted against Superman and these fake Kryptonians as well. Likely Lord doing this as an attempt to one-up Luthor in an ongoing business rivalry, paying no heed to the civilian populace. This sounds really exciting and interesting. I’m so pumped for this movie. It’s going to be a perfect Superman movie and I can’t wait to see how David portrays Superman.
If you'll recall John Byrne's "Man Of Steel" reboot of Superman in the 1980s, Bizarro was a failed clone of Superman by Luthor. An attempt to adapt that story to a film might be interesting. I still don't have any confidence in this Gunn project. And, listen, I say that and I still watch every iteration of Superman that I can, and find some way to enjoy it. My expectations are extremely low, so there's not much they have to do. Sadly, I still don't have the slightest confidence in the project.
If this turns out to be true about Ultraman. Then is proves that James Gunn and cast and creators have all lied about respecting the source material. Ultraman is from Earth 3 in the source material, He has always been from Earth 3. This film will end up turning off comic book fans and they will not want to spend their money.

I wanna ask whether u think they are over stuffing the movie. Like I think they should go light. I know it's not a typical origin story, but it's still an introduction. And so audiences still need to feel like it's a new beginning nd they should really treat the character like a new one. Slowly get the audience invested in him
If memory serves me correctly, the first official photo of Henry Cavill as the new Superman came out in 2011... 2 years before the 2013 release. I think Gunn should have an official photo of David suited up released asap before the paparazzi. 🦸
If it was a "bizzaro" type character, wouldn't they tease the Superman 3 poster? So, if Ultraman was in the movie, it's possible it might be a different actor. Also, I agree it's too soon for a big bad villain like Brainiac. I'm hoping they introduce him through a Supergirl storyline. She'd be shit scared of him.
Ultraman would be interesting and it does indeed give something for the huge list of characters to take on. I'm not a fan of Ultraman being a clone rather than a parallel universe version. Frankly, I don't think Gunn will have the balls to kill Ultraman though; Zod's death at Superman's hands in Man of Steel made everyone whine. Maybe audiences have grown to the point where they can accept it? Maybe not.
Yea ..its a no from me dawg. This is just as dumb as female silver surfer to me .. are we not over the whole evil version of the hero villian in the first movie trope ?? Its plenty of villians they could of used to be on supermans level without resorting to a copy ... Lobo is right there Parasite is right there Metallo is right there Like Wtf .. 🤦♂️
I think it's false. Why bring the Crime Syindacate already? And also why use Ultraman and made him a clone just like Bizarro? Why not just use Bizarro already? This rumor is just utter stupid and I'm not believe in anything unless isn't confirmed by Gunn himself. #ItrustJamesGunn

4:27 YOU don’t care about Comic accuracy being the source material because you don’t actually care for these characters or….read comics. We all see how DC and Current MCU is SHIT right now right?? Well that’s because they’re no longer adapting the source material. If you’re adapting Comic characters you can’t do whatever the fuck you want. You’re creating a movie for the fans that’s already established, if you want the movie to be most successful ADAPT THE SOURCE MATERIAL.
I think that if it is Ultraman they should have Superman at the end of the battle somehow throw or put Ultraman through a Portal or wormhole (maybe with Mr. Terrifics help...like in injustice) and have Ultraman sent to Earth 3 🌎 where he will find the Crime Syndicate and team up with them to get revenge on Prime Earth and Superman in a later time.
Superman III features a bad Superman. Clark strangles the bad Superman in a junkyard fight. In Superman IV, Luthor creating a clone of Superman using both Superman's DNA and Luthors. It was a very poor movie with horrid special effects. Gunn is totally ignorant of Superman. I expect a bad movie.

Every dc fans knows ultraman and crime syndicate my favourite evil justice league
No, no, hell no. We don't want this. Ultraman is not a clone, he's a Earth 3 Supervillian. Its not going to work.
Thumbs up if you want Superman to fight Japanese Ultraman.
Highly HIGHLY doubt this.
You're telling me there going to be Superman, Ultraman and Apollo in close succession in the DCU? Unlikely
It could be bizzaro either way even it is a clone the clone can be played by someone else ultra man never really looked like Superman in the face
Maybe not.
The Audiences is DC Woke Fanboys.
Man of Steel is Cool.
It could be The Engineer as well
Yea ..its a no from me dawg.
This is just as dumb as female silver surfer to me ..
are we not over the whole evil version of the hero villian in the first movie trope ??
Its plenty of villians they could of used to be on supermans level without resorting to a copy ...
Lobo is right there
Parasite is right there
Metallo is right there
Like Wtf .. 🤦♂️
Ultraman is also a Japanese character that fights Kaiju.
I still believe that Henry Cavill could have played superman again.
Cavill sure could have. I'm guessing WB being broke and in debt lead them to fire him. Also, there are Snyder haters in the company too. 🤦🤷
@@ComicBookGuy4519wrong
I think it's false. Why bring the Crime Syindacate already? And also why use Ultraman and made him a clone just like Bizarro? Why not just use Bizarro already?
This rumor is just utter stupid and I'm not believe in anything unless isn't confirmed by Gunn himself.
#ItrustJamesGunn
Yeah, I would put good money on this not being accurate- especially with how often Gunn has refuted what's false.
Lol we're already doing Earth 3?
Looks like it isn't an Earth 3 version!
@@OurMovieNews yeah I see that now lol. Wouldn't a clone just be Bizarro? Ultraman being a clone just isn't right.
jeez..... a superman clone for the first movie??? sounds so lame. Might as well start with Brainiac then!!
I think is going to be Bizarro not Ultraman
TELL THE TRUTH GUNN
Ultraman already? Want parasite first, metallo, mxyzptlk, lex in robot, prankster, toyman, zod, THEN we get to ultraman, eradicator, titano, mr z, metamorpho, anti monitor, come on dont mess it up, u also have metamorpho n another one from authority so whatta hell is goin on now, dis movie has 80% chance makin us look back at man of steel n appreciate it more, add to it aint enjoyed nothin from james gunn since first gotg
Chill out mate
I actually don’t think this will happen.
#TELL THE TRUTH GUNN
I think Ultraman sounds better than Bizarro
they are pretty much the same kind of characters..... it's like superman fighting himself. sounds lame
But it's all just a theory.
The Engineer’s hair style is a lil goofy tbh
GO BACK TO MARVEL GUNN
Oh God. Ultra Man is from Earth 3. Not a clone. They can not even get this right. This film is awful.
ultraman will turn into bizarro?
YEEEES!!!!!!!!!
Or ultraman mutates into bizzaro😂
Superman III features a bad Superman. Clark strangles the bad Superman in a junkyard fight. In Superman IV, Luthor creating a clone of Superman using both Superman's DNA and Luthors. It was a very poor movie with horrid special effects. Gunn is totally ignorant of Superman. I expect a bad movie.
I don't think it is ultraman at all
Guy's its amazo 🗿
Luthor is creating amazo
Not possible
Ultra man is superman of earth 3
Nah engineer cannot be the villain cuz SUPERMAN can beat her easily holding back
So the Villian is lex Luthor who creates ultraman and he fights fights superman
Engineer will get defeated by Superman in fortress of solitude and she I'll team up with supes to defeat Luthor
But
This is not true James Gunn already debunked this rumor and all the other plot leaks that all these scoopers are saying about the plot
He only said he Luthor was the main villain, he didn't say Ultraman wasn't in the movie.
You may don't care if this ridiculous idea isn't comic accurate and it's ok for me as well, but there's out there a bunch of morons who actually destroyed Snyderverse by complaining for same reasons and now it seems not to be a problem for them so I can't stand it and I will do my best to return the favor.
So instead of using the lessons Snyder’s movies taught us, you’ll be just as bad as the bad people. Right…
God no no James is building to Crisis on infinite earth's god no I don't want that yet at least I want Darkseid first and Parasite should be the vilian screw Gunn
Can we get some toast is not reliable
But DC Film News is.
@@OurMovieNews they’re not batting a 1000
Ultra man and the Crime Syndicate suck! Stupid premise. Just bring in Brainiac!

James Gunn has come out to say this rumor is NOT TRUE! QUIT SPREADING RUMORS.
He only said he Luthor was the main villain, he didn't say Ultraman wasn't in the movie.
@@OurMovieNews I can't imagine a scenario where Ultraman is in the film and it's not the main threat. He's a big deal -- not a quick 10 min fight and over with. And certainly not a cameo.
@@ReggieBishop But it would be a loose version of him. Not like a huge character. Just inspired by Ultraman.
@@OurMovieNews Gunn has told us the inspiration for Superman (2025). All Star Superman and Superman for All Seasons -- and Lex doesn't create a clone in either volume. At this point -- you might as well say Mister Mxyzptlk and every Superman villain is in the film because Gunn didn't deny it. Why are so many people obsessed with trying to ruin the plot of DCU's Superman?
@@ReggieBishop Inspired but has said it is 100% an original story.
Okay I think am disappointed. Why not make superman fight the authorities or the other heroes. No way the villain is ultraman. This cap
