    I'm 9 weeks into (almost) daily weight training. I feel like a completely different person. The best part is the mental and spiritual clarity that having your physical body in order brings. It helps immensely to care for the temple of the body that God has given each of us, even if for no other reason than to not be a distraction from our spiritual pursuit of Christ.
    Being honest though, I did it to keep up with my kids too.

    I exercise because one day I may be called upon to defend myself or the lives of my family or friends, and in that moment my body will need to be in top physical shape. Remember there are evil people in the world who are training their bodies for evil, so the church needs warriors who are willing to train their bodies to defend the weak. Christian men should be the best of men in all aspects of manliness.

    It is good to excercise, it is good to enjoy food and drinks, it is of course about to what end and in moderation. To love food and eat some quite unhealthy stuff is bad if you do it for it's own sake. But to do it in love of Gods creation, and within reason, it may be good because it may bring you closer to God. Similarly, if you work out just to be rippped, it's bad because it is centered around yourself. If you excercise to be a more healthy father, or to just feel better and to more easily fulfil your vocation it is good.
    It's the key difference of moderation and forethought between glutton and gourmet, between gymbro and people who work out. The ultimate end should of course be to please God.

      @don7502 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Benedictus Deus" which defined the state of souls immediately following death and prior to the general resurrection (when we receive our bodies again) only says that the *souls* of the saints either enter into purgatory or experience the beatific vision. Same with the Council of Florence. We say we ask for the intercession of (for example) St Terese bc it is her soul to whom we ask. So it's just shorthand. At least this is the corruptionist position.

    • @nightyew2160

      I think he covered this a little when he said our bodies and souls still do stuff separately. Our bodies decay and our souls get judged. I think experiences such as purgatory, the beatific vision, and praying for others would also fall under the category of things our souls do during that separation period.

    • @nightyew2160
      @nightyew2160 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kind of see what you mean. It's difficult to consider yourself nonexistent if you are still sentient enough to experience purgatory and the beatific vision. Although I agree that our bodies are an integral part of our human existence, but I think the separation of body and soul will be more like losing a part. An amputee still exists when he loses his limb. Though he may get used to the loss with time, he is in one sense now incomplete while in another sense he is still himself. Maybe when our souls separate from our bodies it is like missing a leg except it's our entire bodies that are missing. In death our bodies decay without the form of the soul and can be replaced at the resurrection of the body, just as in life the matter in our bodies is constantly being replaced through digestion and respiration even with the form of the soul. Getting our bodies back will be just like a healing miracle where our bodies are restored to our souls. Our new bodies will be just as much a part of us as in life because of the form of the soul, or perhaps even more a part of us because of their glorified state. I guess I like to imagine my sentience and existence as attached to my soul until then because I don't want to think of myself as a decaying husk. Also the bodily aspect of our existence is dependent on which matter is composite with our souls at any given time. Our waste is no longer part of us even if it was a part of our bodies at one time. While a complete human has both a body and soul, the soul exists eternally because it doesn't have parts that break down like the body does. To me, it seems that the person continues to exist with his soul after death and can function in all ways that souls can (such as praying) but he's in a disabled state until his bodily powers are restored to him.

    You exist after death without your body. Your soul exists and is awake, alive. Otherwise you could not pray to the saints in Heaven who are there without bodies (except for the Blessed Mother and some others who do have bodies), there would be no prayers for the souls in purgatory who are there are suffering terribly, or the rich man who asked Abraham to send Dives to dip his finger in water . If you are not alive after death without your body, then how do we say "St. Joseph, pray for us" or "St. Francis, pray for us". Who would you be praying to?
