Gosh, I'm well chuffed to have found this video - I'm an exiled Rutlander and grew up in Oakham, but of course I know all the Rutland villages well from cyclerides in my yoof. I go back (as a student) to the original Rutland County Council and even worked for it in school holidays. Rutland then had three Rural District Councils - Oakham, Uppingham and - Ketton! The RCC would never have allowed the Orchard to be desolated, but the new RCC is alas under the cudgels of the Dept. for Levelling Up, which insists that Rutland levy more of its own finance via Council Tax - so, more houses. The orchard had some medlar trees (fruit to be picked only after the first frost) and quince trees, which fruit a friend's mother made into quince jelly. The footbridge over the Chater was built by a colleague of mine whilst I was at the RCC (Highways Dept). I'm a member of the RLH&RS.
