how is this sturdy? I have only built dry stack walls with a batterboard for the rise and run. they didnt even use a line? all free hand? can someone explain some of their principles so i can learn? thanks!
I dont get why its not collapsing. I know the physics behind it. I just expect it to fall down by the slightest touch. It has no mortar or glue and it just relies on structure to stay in place. But it really looks like it should give sideways and crumble down. Remarkable.

Look at the profile of El Racó del Bosc, they are artisans working with natural stone, it is an area with more than a thousand years of history, they have gastrotourism experiences.
Ann Oynmous theres nothing stopping it moving? Its called gravity... im a pretty well respected dry stone waller who has built multiple arches.. these lads did a good job.
Ann Oynmous: Look at the build shot at 1:45 and the shot at 4:40. The wall is roughly 35-40 cm (14-16 inches) across, and each of those stones are spanning the entire width of the arch. I'm guessing each of those larger stones weigh in around 50 lbs or more. The upper arch alone is more than likely well over 600 lbs. Due to friction of each rock on rock, lateral force of the arch on the rest of the wall, and gravitational down force; I doubt that you would be able to even budge it. If built properly the strength of an arch exponentially grows with it's weight.
I would have bent a piece of rebar in the same radius as the arch and drilled and thread each arch stone onto it like beads, hidden on either end in the thickness of the wall. No one would ever see it or know it was perfectly safe afterwards. As it sits it looks too precarious, like after some freeze thaw the tops stones might loosen. I think there should have been more of a wedge shape to the key stone at the top center and maybe more stone on top of the arch for weight locking it all together.
Well the beauty of these things for most people is not just the look but the skill and the technique of using gravity and physics to make something possible that seems to our eyes to be impossible. Adding a hidden rebar “spine” if you will, cheapens and even negates the entire point of this craft.
It looks great, but..... (God dammit, I never thought I'd be on the side of the dreaded 'Health n Safety' whiners..) But... It seems to me, that to satisfy an ego, you left it to gravity to keep it in form.. ..and so it will be a temptation to any kids who WILL want to climb all over it. Boys will climb it, it will fall down.. and will almost certainly give the kids a right whack from the falling stones. .....And then you'll wish you'd built it safely. Come on fellas, how strong do you think boys bones are?
Brad Woodfield, you keep posting that link, but it's only showing strength in compression - which is undoubted. How strong it is against someone clobbering it side on with a set of ladders they're carrying through?

probably, it is never 100% a circle with natural stones I reckon. So it just took its natural shape after the mold was taken off.
Yes exactly, natural settlement and shows how stable the structure is now. Had it been unstable, the whole arch would have collapsed at that point.

I would of applied a quality PL construction adhesive between the stones for strength

You don't do stonework obviously, bc they would make it 100x more difficult to do.
