It is great to see the play performed. I would encourage people to check out their local high schools and colleges to see if any are performing the plays. That's much less expensive and can be a lot of fun. Also local theater groups.
I will be take part in this readathon, as I have my bind up of Shakespare that I have never touched🤭 This is a good motivator to finally tackle some of his works🙌

I have just finished reading The Tempest and I watched the Royal Shakespeare Company version. I've loved it. For the next month I have doubts between two plays: Othello and Coriolanus. I need to decide it, but I am all in with the readathon. About the name Hamlet, it actually comes from an icelandic legend. It is part of the Gesta Danorum by Saxo Grammaticus (s. XIII), but there are proves that Amleth (the original name) story comes form before (s. X). Last year I have a crush with nordic literature and I read a lot about the influence of the icelandic sagas in the english literature :) Love your content!
I'm definitely interested! I love Shakespeare, but I don't read him very often. This is a much needed push. 😊 I think I'll go with one play for now and it'll probably be King Lear, since I've never read it before. I hope I'll manage to squeeze in one more, but we'll see.

This seems fun. I’ve only read Julius Caesar, which was a lot more readable than I feared. I think I want to join, and read some histories. Starting with King John and working my way through the kings chronologically. Easter will likely bring a lot of extra reading time, with four days off work 😁
Julius Caesar is actually Shakespeare's shortest play, so I think it's a good one to start with. And the histories definitely seem the most challenging, so good luck to both of us, lol!
Can you read so many plays _deeply_ in one month? Speaking for myself, I couldn't. I've been hearing quite a bit about Henry VI (parts 1,2,3) lately, so I would consider that enough Shakespeare for me in one month. Maybe I'll do that. There have been two celebrated adaptations of Henry V (Olivier, Branagh).

This year I am reading The New Oxford Shakespeare. The complete works attributed to him. They are in chronological order. That's over 3300 pages. Those I have previously read I will be re reading. I am just about to start The Passionate Pilgrim. My favourites I will study in depth later.
Gosh, that's a long book! I wish my copy was in chronological order, and I know a few of his works aren't included in it, but I figure I need to start somewhere. And I definitely think certain of his works need more in depth study then others.
@@AnneEWilliamson actually it would be my fourth go through. Lear is one of two favorite Shakespeare plays (Much Ado is the other). Actually Goneril's line about "put on whatever weary negligence..." Is just something that sticks with me delightfully.

April is a much better month for this, for the reasons you mention...and twenty plays in a month? uuhhh...that would be very impressive. I mean, a play a day wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a busy month, but still. If you complete this, I will have to put out a special video on Shakespeare to commemorate the challenge! Yes! I remember being frustrated but enjoying King Lear. It's one of the lesser appreciated tragedies, in my opinion. I hope you enjoy it!

Yeah...Shakespeare is a lot. And Hamlet is Shakespeare's longest play, so it definitely takes a lot to read that one, lol.

Ha, it will be a lot of reading, but I'm hoping since plays are shorter then books that it will be doable. And Henry V, eh? Sounds incredibly fun!
